Lunara’s eyes blinked as she read the headlines.
She’d read every twisted word, the staged photo, the comnt sections dripping with pity and venom. But she didn’t flinch. She simply scrolled, eyes calm and lips pressed into a faint line.
From the beginning, sothing inside her had warned that peace wouldn’t last. That choosing to stay in this relationship might invite soone to co for it.
But she never expected Valerie to go this far.
Just as she wanted to set her phone aside, the door burst open.
"Lunara!" Eryx rushed in, breathless, eyes wide with panic. He didn’t wait. He strode straight to her bedside and snatched the phone, gaze flickering across the screen before turning back to her.
"You saw it?" His voice cracked with urgency. "Don’t... don’t read any more. I’ll fix it. I promise. Please, just rest. Please believe . I didn’t—"
She reached up and gently took his hand.
"Eryx."
He froze.
She gave him a small smile, one that sohow held more strength than all the noise outside.
"I believe my husband more than anything strangers say online."
He stared at her, stunned, jaw tightening.
"I knew from the beginning," she added softly, her voice calm despite the storm outside. "From the way Valerie looked at ... like she couldn’t understand why you chose . Sothing was off in her eyes. So don’t worry. Calm down, and take a very deep breath."
Eryx dropped to his knees beside the bed, head bowed, forehead brushing her arm. For a mont, he didn’t speak. Couldn’t. Her words undid him. Not because they were loud, but because they were steady. Quiet. Unshaken.
"I don’t deserve you," he whispered, voice thick.
"You do," she replied, running her fingers gently through his hair. "But only if you rember to breathe."
She chuckled at her own joke, soft and light, like a breeze through the tension.
The sound made Eryx look up, eyes glassy, breath caught sowhere between a sob and a laugh.
"I’m really sorry to bring you into this ss," he whispered.
Lunara shook her head, her fingers brushing softly through his hair. "The doctor said I can be discharged today," she said, her voice calm.
Eryx blinked. "Already?"
She nodded. "Apparently, the CEO’s wife has healed well enough in her VIP suite. And I might’ve hinted that I miss proper sheets and my own shampoo." She smiled gently. "Don’t look so shocked."
He let out a breathy chuckle, his forehead still resting against her arm. "I was supposed to be the one taking care of you... not the other way around." Eryx murmured. "I am really useless."
Before Lunara could respond, the door clicked open. Regina stepped inside, heels clicking softly against the pristine floor. She carried a small bag and a no-nonsense expression, but her gaze softened when it landed on Lunara.
"You’re being discharged today?" she asked, setting the bag down on the nearby couch.
Lunara nodded. "Yes, the doctor just cleared ."
Regina looked between her son still kneeling and Lunara sitting upright in bed. "Okay, but Eryx," she shifted her eyes. "We’ve got problems."
Eryx stood slowly, brushing his hands against his trousers. "What is it?"
"They’re swarming the lobby," Regina said curtly. "Reporters. Photographers. I counted at least twenty, maybe more. Soone leaked your discharge."
Eryx sighed. "Of course they did."
Regina ca closer to the bed. "We’re going out the hard way. Service elevator to the underground lot. No stops."
Eryx nodded. "Car ready?"
"It’s waiting at the south ramp," Regina confird, then looked at Lunara. "Are you okay?"
Lunara gave a small smile and nodded.
Eryx leaned closer, his eyes softening with concern. "Are you sure? If you still feel bad anywhere, we can stay another day or two."
Lunara shook her head gently. "I’m fine, Eryx. I’ve been in bed long enough. Let’s just go ho."
He hesitated for a mont before nodding, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Alright. But if you feel the slightest discomfort, we turn back, understand?"
"Understood," she replied with a soft smile, her eyes eting him with a quiet trust.
Regina didn’t wait for another word, she turned and headed for the door. "Let’s go, pack her things. We shouldn’t waste more ti."
Eryx stood for a mont, watching Lunara, still lost in his worry, but her steady gaze grounded him. He reached out to gently squeeze her hand, offering a silent reassurance before turning to follow Regina.
Inside the room, Regina was already gathering Lunara’s belongings, her movents quick and efficient. "I’ll handle the packing. You just make sure Lunara’s ready," she said without looking up.
Lunara, already seated on the bed, smiled and shook her head, steadying herself. "I am ready, Mom."
Eryx hovered nearby, watching her every movent. His gaze lingered on her pale face, the traces of exhaustion still visible. But her smile, however small, was enough to ease his anxiety for now.
"Honey," he murmured, his voice low. "Should we go sowhere else?"
Lunara raised her eyebrows. "Sowhere else?"
Eryx nodded, getting closer to her and holding her hands. "Hmm, do you have any place you want to go? Let’s take a break." He paused, his voice slightly shaky. "I suddenly rembered that we never went on a honeymoon."
"Honeymoon?" Lunara tilted her head a bit, blinking as she thought. "Actually..." She paused.
Eryx nodded, waiting for her words. "Hmm? Actually...?"
"Maldives..." She muttered the place, her gaze thoughtful. "Do you need a lot of money to go there? If not, we can just go to a nearby island. I’m okay with that. I would love to visit an island. I’ve never been to one before." She uttered the words casually, as if it was no big deal.
But at that mont, cold-hearted Eryx, the man that always put up a strong front, held tight onto his wife’s hand, before he gazed down on the floor breaking down as everything he had been holding back threatened to break free. "I’m sorry."
