What a joke!

Father Gu was well aware that Madam Tang would never go back to her past, but could he really say that?

To speak that to a man who desperately wants to reunite would be devastating.

"Confird!"

For now, he was simply persuading him, and once he sent the man back ho, they could talk about the future later.

Father Tang didn’t seem to care whether Father Gu was telling the truth or not, he just wanted to hear sothing positive.

Father Gu helped Father Tang into the yard and watched him lie down before returning ho.

Mrs. Gu was watering the flowers. When she saw Father Gu enter the house and wipe off his sweat, she thought sothing was wrong, "What did you go out and do? Why are you drenched in sweat?"

Father Gu then relayed the incident with Father Tang, including the questions Father Tang had asked. Mrs. Gu scoffed, "He wishes! No matter the intention, harm is harm. It can’t just be covered up with an apology and an excuse!"

People understand the logic, but there’s always soone harboring hope against the odds, like Father Tang.

Father Gu couldn’t help but feel emotional, relieved that he had always been honest and never done anything to betray Mrs. Gu, otherwise his fate wouldn’t be much better than Father Tang’s.

The couple then discussed Father Tang’s behavior, unaware that in the middle of the night, Father Tang would knock on Tang Chuxia and Beihuai’s bedroom door, startling Tang Chuxia so much that she jumped right into Beihuai’s arms.

"Dad, you couldn’t sleep and decided to scare people in the middle of the night?" Tang Chuxia recognized Father Tang’s voice, and, though she wanted to curse, she restrained herself, only managing to express her frustration helplessly.

Father Tang kept knocking on the door: "Xiaxia, co out. Dad needs to talk to you!"

Helpless, Tang Chuxia finally got dressed with Beihuai.

The couple, having just gone to bed, were irritable from being woken up, especially Tang Chuxia who already disapproved of Father Tang. With her sleep disturbed, there was no way she could look pleased.

"Spit it out, what is it?"

Tang Chuxia reluctantly turned on the light and looked at Father Tang.

It was almost like if you can’t give a satisfactory answer, I’m going to make your night miserable.

Father Tang cleared his throat; he wasn’t drunk, just stimulated by the alcohol, unwilling to keep his feelings suppressed.

"Xiaxia, Dad is really suffering!"

Tang Chuxia, annoyed, tapped on the table to remind him, "Dad, just call Xiaxia, the na ’little sister’ always gives goosebumps!"

Father Tang: ...

He had always called her ’little sister’ and she had never objected before. Why the fuss now?

But since he had sothing to discuss, he didn’t argue and grudgingly said, "Alright, Xiaxia, Dad is really suffering!"

Tang Chuxia: ...

There’s no need to repeat it, right?

Just spit it out!

Beihuai poured a glass of warm water for Father Tang and told him to take his ti talking.

It wasn’t cold in the height of sumr, just vexing.

Tang Chuxia squinted at Father Tang, wondering what trouble he was capable of causing.

And indeed, Father Tang did cause trouble.

He suddenly started crying.

Even Beihuai hadn’t anticipated that and didn’t know how to comfort Father Tang.

The couple looked at each other, completely overwheld, debating whether they should wake up the younger brother to co and see.

"Your mother is pitiable, too!"

These words made Tang Chuxia, who was about to stand up, halt; she sat back down and looked at Father Tang, "Dad, clarify — how is mom pitiable?"

Father Tang wiped his tears, "Do you know where I went today?"

Tang Chuxia shook her head; she didn’t know where he had been.

After all, it was Father Tang’s business.

Then, Father Tang told her, "I went to our Tang Village. Do you know there’s a treasure in the Tang Family Mansion?"

Tang Chuxia was speechless and didn’t want to bother with him; she felt that Father Tang was not quite himself today.

"Dad, are you short on money? I don’t have any money. The orphanage always needs funding!" Tang Chuxia reiterated several tis, interrupting the mood Father Tang was brewing, to which he simply rolled his eyes at her.

"Let finish!"

Tang Chuxia kept quiet, listened as Father Tang continued, "Our Tang family has always been guarding a book, you can ask Third Grandpa about it; he definitely knows!"

At this point, Tang Chuxia was no longer sleepy; her eyes glead as she gazed at Father Tang, waiting for what ca next.

"There’s just one issue with that book; not everyone can understand it; it involves a lot of profound matters!" Father Tang seed quite emotion, but seeing Tang Chuxia not asking further, he felt like a storyteller unable to proceed without soone to egg him on.

"Your grandparents and Second Grandpa all died protecting that book!"

Tang Chuxia: ...

This was getting bizarre.

Apparently, there was such a magical book.

Gu Beihuai, unlike Tang Chuxia, realized the seriousness of the issue. Moreover, now he could hear what was in Father Tang’s heart, thinking about how to hook Tang Chuxia and saddle her with this difficult task while he began to complain tearfully.

Being Tang Chuxia’s man, Gu Beihuai felt it was necessary to stand up for his wife, so he interrupted Father Tang.

"If the book is so important, it should be well protected, and since it belongs to the Tang family, does the eldest uncle know about it?"

Father Tang: ...

Annoyed, he glared at Gu Beihuai.

This son-in-law was sowhat tactless, how could he divert the topic?

He was trying hard to get Tang Chuxia interested; why bring up his eldest son?

How could those guys’ brains compare to Tang Chuxia’s?

"Your elder brother doesn’t know; he is a military man and doesn’t believe in such things!"

Father Tang even made excuses for his eldest son, but then Tang Chuxia pointed at herself and said, "Dad, did you forget that I am currently also a specially appointed scientific expert?"

aning, sothing even her big brother didn’t believe in—how could she?

Was it logical?

But how did Father Tang respond?

He too directly said, "It’s different, your brother deep down doesn’t believe in these things, but you’ve seen magical events since you were born. This supernatural power you possess is itself a profound thing!"

Although Tang Chuxia knew Father Tang was equivocating, she sohow didn’t know how to refute.

Instead, Father Tang seized the opportunity to continue speaking, "I just wanted to tell you, you’ve always disliked Tang Wanqiu, I know you say it’s the twin telepathy, but now can you sense whether your own sister is still alive?"

Tang Chuxia’s face changed.

She really hadn’t expected Father Tang to take such a roundabout way to eventually land here.

Honestly, Tang Chuxia had never doubted Madam Tang’s words, much less considered whether her real sister was still alive, especially since Madam Tang had said the person died in front of her.

"Dad, that’s not a funny joke, especially in the middle of the night, it’s rather creepy!"
