(Arata)

I hadn’t expected Karsten to hug and calm down the way he did, but I was thankful that he was there. The shaking wouldn’t stop and I was unable to shake the feeling that past incident was coming back to haunt .

Although my mories of that attack were blurred, I couldn’t help but think this was sohow connected with that.

Did my past follow here?

Or was it soone just trying to scare ? It could be a reporter who had unfolded the truth about my identity and was trying to blackmail .

Different thoughts whirled in my mind and my hands went cold in my lap. I didn’t even know when we arrived outside my apartnt building and Karsten pulled into the parking space. Opening the door he helped out and placed his reassuring arm around my shoulder.

"I will see you to your apartnt," he said softly and I let him guide forward.

Using my key card I granted us excess and took the elevator up. His frantic eyes dipped towards again and again and I could sense concern riding in them.

Once we arrived outside my apartnt, I used the other key card to try and open it when he placed his hand over mine and asked.

"Do you live alone?"

"My friend has been with but she left today with my parents."

Was it a coincidence that it only happened the day my parents were in town and just yesterday, we went outside to have dinner?

Did soone see us? It was most probably what had happened.

"Let check inside first," he firmly said and told to wait. Quietly, opening the door he carefully walked inside and took a look around. I nervously waited, clutching my handbag.

"You can co in, Arata." His throaty voice ca and I stepped inside.

Everything seed to be in its place, as I had left it. Our apartnt building was safe as no outsider had access to it.

"There doesn’t seem to be any disturbance or notes left," Karsten thoughtfully said, standing near the lounger with his hands resting on the lounger’s back. He seed to fill the space with his tall stature and dominating presence.

I closed the door and proceeded to check the two bedrooms and bathrooms but nothing was out of place.

Could it be soone at work? I wondered, exiting my bedroom and dropping my handbag on the table. But that seed highly unlikely.

Seeing lost, Karsten cleared his throat.

"You good? Want to get you so water?"

I shook my head.

"No, I will get it."

Proceeding to the kitchen I brought the jug and two glasses. Filling them up I handed one to Karsten and gulped down the other. The cool liquid trickled down my throat, relaxing .

Karsten did the sa and placed the glass on the table. This was the first ti he was in my apartnt and it was under such weird circumstances. I couldn’t even properly think what to say to him.

Should I offer him coffee or food? But the incident had left shaken and I had no energy to cook.

Karsten, on the other hand, seed calm and composed.

"Sit down, Arata. I am going to stay with you. There is nothing to worry about." He pointed to my big comfy sofa and continued. "From tomorrow onwards, I will assign you a personal guard until we figure out who the person is."

I flopped myself on it and faced him. I knew he ant well, and I was pretty shaken today, but I knew self-defence and could handle myself.

"You don’t have to. I am safe at ho, and I don’t need a bodyguard. I can take care of myself."

Karsten’s lips thinned out and he shook his head, quietly settling beside . His posture, totally different from mine. While he had his legs spread I had gathered mine up and pushed them against my chest in a protective manner.

"I know; he will just pick you up and drop you ho safely. If you don’t agree, I will have to do that personally. So the choice is yours."

Did he always have to impose his decisions? But he did have a point and I couldn’t let him be my babysitter. He would be the worst babysitter ever, grunting and brooding. It was enough that I had to bear with him in the office.

Besides, it was easier to think of him as this cold person than peel off the layers and find the goodness he held in there. Already, his little acts of kindness and care affected , and his playing hot and cold always left a bad taste in my mouth.

"Alright but I don’t want anyone taking away my freedom," I told him flatly, placing my chin on my knee.

"I will take that note with and have a forensic analyst look into it. Check it for any fingerprints and analyse the writing. Whoever that person is, will be caught," his voice was unusually calm, unlike how he was in the morning. His hands resting on his toned thighs.

"Okay, but are you sure you want to stay? I don’t think it’s necessary." I turned my head and asked him. The concern in his eyes had deepened as he stared back at .

"I am staying, Arata. I will just crash here unless you want to cuddle with like you did yesterday," he teased with a subtle wink and embarrassnt shrouded like a mist.

"Don’t get your hopes high; I have a spare bedroom called the guest room." I pointed with a smirk, a small smile had found its way to the corner of my lips. He bit into his lower lip, hardly containing the laughter that had threatened to spill out.

"What a thoughtful lady," he humd when the device in his ear began to beep. Quickly, he answered the call and his face hardened yet again. Whatever was the news, it wasn’t what he had been expecting.

"I see, keep searching and checking all the footage. I want the culprit to be found." Another pause and then he said.

"Take the note from to Haziar; tell him I need a detailed analysis of it." The call ended after that and he solemnly stared back at while I wondered what Olphi must have told him.
