(Karsten)

Checking the footage from her office’s cara, I found that she was indeed texting soone, and it was no one else but her Mom, Skyla Zyair, the sole owner of Adam’s Corporation. The company was a frontrunner in the import and export trade of Angel City and I wasn’t even surprised.

Skyla was the daughter of the most successful business couple in Angel City and no matter how she disguised herself, I had always known.

We had specifically chosen her, and to our surprise, she had accepted our job offer and applied for the position of my secretary. And now she was using her connections to help even though I had acted as a jerk with her.

Her actions ward my ever-so-cold heart, the one I didn’t wish to feel these tantalising emotions was touched. The phone call was legit and I knew the shipnt would arrive the next day.

Deciding to ask her if she would confess, I called her into my office once Ranold had left, but just as I had expected, she denied it completely and rather calmly.

She, indeed, was a woman full of mysteries and didn’t want her cover to be blown.

I didn’t push her and let her go, but I couldn’t wait for the day when she would realise I had always known about her identity, although I had not seen her much before. For the daughter of such a powerful couple, she had always kept a low dia profile. Maybe she hated the reporters as much as I did and wished to keep her life private.

Once Arata was gone, I also left my office to head ho. Olphi picked up my suitcase as we arrived at the basent parking lot and there I heard her scream. It pierced my heart, and frantically, my legs rushed in the direction of where I had heard her voice coming from. Olphi was on my heels as I spotted her. Standing in front of her new car she was staring down at a piece of paper.

Bolting forward without even thinking I put both my hands on her shaking shoulders and turned her towards .

Fear stared back at as her eyes blinked and found mine.

"What’s wrong? Are you alright?" I asked, my hold tightening on her shoulders. She wouldn’t stop shaking as her eyes stumbled back towards the ground at the piece of paper.

"I....um...," She was so lost.

Olphi picked up the paper and handed it to without reading. The writing had a blood-dripping style, it was even written with so kind of deep red ink.

Seriously, it seed like a prank people play on Halloween but the words were ominous.

"Where did you find it?" I diverted my gaze back to her scared face.

"On my windscreen...when I arrived." She was still shaking so violently and I pulled her close, hugging her sideways.

My line of sight t Olphi as I commanded.

"Do a full scan. Get the cara footage for today and I need the logs for everyone who ca here today."

Olphi gave one professional but quick nod and strode away while I turned my attention towards Arata.

"Has this ever happened before?"

And to my surprise, she silently nodded but didn’t go into details.

Did she have a stalker? Maybe her family had so dark history. I only knew her parents through dia as they were big nas but we had never t because of how distant our cities were.

"Does soone bother you constantly?" To my surprise, her hands went around my waist as she placed her head on my chest and her hand went to her temple, rubbing it as if trying to shake so horrible mory.

"No, but soone attacked a long ti ago and my parents....it’s nothing...I don’t know." It was like she was about to open up but decided against it.

Attacked her? This made so livid.

"Who attacked you? Did soone hurt you, Arata?" I asked with clenched teeth and without even wanting to, my hand had fisted by my side, my nails digging into my flesh.

"It was a long ti ago, I don’t want to talk about it." She shook her head, and I understood there was a bad mory attached to it.

Since she took slowly as her boss, I knew she wouldn’t open up to . I had to use my other personality to coax answers from her.

Patience, I had to practice patience with her.

"You don’t have to. No one is going to hurt you, I will get to the bottom of it." I assured her, rubbing her arm gently. "Let take you ho." I folded and pocketed the piece of paper.

I didn’t want her to drive in this condition or be alone. She didn’t hesitate to accept my offer as I led her to the passenger seat of her car and helped her settle in. Putting on her seatbelt as she watched with watery eyes, I sensed her legs still shaking.

Traumatic, this was a traumatic experience for her. Gently I placed my hand on her trembling knee while I was still bent over her. We were so close and she didn’t pull away but only stared back with her fearful eyes.

"It’s alright to be afraid; sotis that only makes us human, but no one has the right to invade that safe space and make soone go through this. I am with you and like I said on the first day, I take care of my employees."

The fear slowly dulled as a thread of reassurance and trust developed between us; it was fragile, but it was there.

"Thank you!" Her voice ca out trembling.

I pulled myself out and stord over to the other side, opening the door, I settled inside her car. The key was already in the ignition. Fastening my seat belt, I started the car and it slowly gained life. I called Olphi through the Bluetooth device in my ear and asked for the update as we pulled out of the parking lot and into the evening traffic of Marica City.

So far, he hadn’t seen anyone suspicious, but he and the on-duty guards were now going through the footage.

"Keep posted," I commanded before ending the call and focusing on driving. My eyes every now and then flickered to Arata. She seed to have cald slightly down, but her hands, which were clasped in her lap, still shook and twisted.

I wanted to reach out and assure her again, but I gave her ti to collect her thoughts.

Deciding to look into her family history I kept driving until we arrived outside her apartnt building.
