(Arata)

Miranda scrambled out of her seat, hearing his voice and her eyes darted from to the door. I had no intention of letting him in, but Miranda was here, and his authority could be undermined.

"I should go," she murmured, moving towards the door and opening it.

Karsten stood in the doorway, occupying it with his gigantic presence and tall stature. His hand behind his back and those mysterious eyes finding .

The perfect devil guised in a suit.

I didn’t let that enigmatic gaze get to my head; I stared back uninterestedly.

"Sir!" Miranda politely nodded and quietly passed him to head to her office.

He acknowledged her with a slow nod of his head but his eyes remained zood on in a silent plea. A plea to let him enter the office.

I let him squirm and didn’t leave my seat, clasping my hands in front, I watched him with a challenge.

He brought his left hand forward, fisting it, he placed it on the doorfra and asked again with a slow flutter of his eyes.

"Can I co in?"

If he thought his actions were working, he was wrong. They weren’t, although my heart disagreed with my brain.

"Why? So you can insult so more," I asked, twisting my chair left and right and enjoying the mont where I had the upper hand.

"To apologise, I co in peace." His right hand remained behind his back.

Apology and Karsten didn’t co in the sa sentence.

"What was that? I didn’t quite get it. Can you repeat it for ?" I placed my hand, palm facing him right beside my ear as if I needed him to repeat himself.

He lowered his head and snorted due to my actions but did repeat himself.

"I have co to nd my ways. Will you let in?" He rephrased it, and again, I took my ti to answer.

I wanted him to fidget a bit, but most importantly, I needed him to realise that his words had hurt and he should face the consequences.

"You may." I didn’t relax my pose as a wisp of a smile broke out on those curved lips of his.

Letting another amused snort fall through, he entered my office and gracefully sauntered over to . Crossing my desk, he ca to a halt near my chair. Leaning against my desk he grabbed the edge with his left hand and brought forward the right one.

To my utter surprise, he was holding a bouquet of fresh blue roses in it and a gift bag which he perched on the desk and presented with the roses.

They were held together by a blue ribbon and decorative material. The water droplets on the edges of the velvety petals shone like tiny diamonds under the lights of my office. Their enticing sll made my senses heady and I couldn’t help but take deep whiffs.

"I shouldn’t have said those things to you. I was wrong. Please, accept these." Calming but deep notes of his voice had my eyes flickering to find his gaze. I had to crane my neck to look at him.

Shadows of the midnight seed to dance in his irises as they held only my face. He had chosen blue roses on purpose, he had nad such.

Quietly, I accepted the roses but didn’t satisfy his ego with an answer. My fingers brushed against his as he let go of the bouquet and I brought it closer to . Taking a sniff, I let the refreshing sll of the roses calm the storms in my heart.

My fingers delicately touched the soft petals, letting feel nature’s tenderness and delicacy. Fragile and yet elegant with a promise to soothe whoever touched them with love.

"They are beautiful," I couldn’t help but praise. Not because he brought them, they genuinely were breathtaking and I loved them.

"Does that an I am forgiven?" He hopefully asked. My eyes had been lowered, focusing on the flowers, so I wasn’t aware of what expressions he was holding, but I knew he was watching and observing .

"Why should I? After what you said and the way you accused ." My gaze unwantedly went to him and the man had crossed his arms over his buffed chest, letting the fabric of his shirt be stretched against his biceps.

Great, now he wanted to seduce by becoming eye-candy.

We held each other’s gaze—his dark but intrigued, mine annoyed but subtle.

"That was wrong of , Arata and I didn’t an it." He placed his hand on his heart and spoke again. "I was insensitive, it will not be repeated."

Astonished, I blinked and then again. Karsten was apologising, repeatedly.

Sothing was wrong with the universe. Maybe I was dreaming.

Had I fallen through a wormhole and ended up in a different universe?

"Are you real? If you are, are you trying to play a prank on ?" I asked, placing the bouquet of roses aside and narrowing my eyes at him.

He simply shook his head, a hint of a smile remained at the corner of his lips, never breaking fully. A single strand of his jet-black hair fell right above his nose.

He unfolded his arms and extended his right hand towards , pausing to see if I flinched away.

I didn’t and he cupped my face lightly. The top of his thumb brushed my cheek.

"It’s real, I am not playing a prank. So am I forgiven?"

"Depends if I am allowed to hang out with Miranda and Chan," I boldly said, trying not to give into his gestures, which were making the heat rise, not only in my cheeks but elsewhere too.

"You can, I won’t stop you. Just be aware of office gossip and dirty politics. I don’t want you to get hurt." He paused and offered a restricted smile. "I don’t doubt you and know you are capable of making correct decisions and seeing who is worthy of your friendship. I have gotten used to having you around and want to share als with you. That’s why I brought sothing so we can eat together?" He pointed towards the bag with the tip of his head and my curiosity intensified.
