(Arata)

How dare he? He knew what I was going through, yet he said it, planting this seed of distrust in my heart. Chan was my friend but now this was always going to beat the back of my head.

I was fucking pissed at Karsten and wanted to hurl sothing towards his thick head.

Marching out of his office, I went to mine and closed the door, not in the mood to entertain anyone.

Slumping on my seat, I leaned against it and closed my eyes with my fists over them. My heart was beating extrely fast, I needed to regularise it and channel my emotions. I couldn’t explode like a volcano.

I understood Karsten had trust issues. But sotis he didn’t understand how rude he could get, even with people who cared about him.

I was already dealing with a stalker and death threats; I couldn’t deal with Karsten’s mood swings, too.

Grabbing my phone, I decided to text Azul. The only person I could freely bitch about Karsten without getting any judgnt.

Stella had already told how bad an idea it was to get involved with my boss. She didn’t know that soone was threatening and I wasn’t going to worry her when she was going through a break-up.

I hadn’t spoken to Azul in a while. My trust had been brutally damaged but there was just sothing reassuring about that man.

{Hey! Can we speak? Text whenever you are free.} I typed and hit the send button. Placing my phone on the desk, I waited for his answer, but it didn’t co. Maybe he was busy, the man had a life outside of entertaining and an army of thirsty netizens who loved worshipping him.

Disappointed and lost, I just sat there trying my hardest not to cry. Feeling alone and alienated, this was the worst kind of torture.

Was this the ultimate goal of my stalker? To make distrust the people close to ?

To be left wondering whom I could trust and whom I couldn’t?

And the one person I knew I could trust had ended up hurting and alienating even more.

A slow knock on the door had my attention diverted.

"Who is it?" I asked in an irritated voice, not being in the mood to entertain Karsten and handle his emotional volatility.

"It’s , Miranda. Can I co in?" Her gentle voice made my tensed muscles relax slightly.

"Yes." Miranda entered carefully, carrying a reassuring smile. Her smile faded, seeing sprawled on my chair with a grim expression.

"Everything good? What happened?" She asked worriedly and rushed to my side.

"No, that Icy Emotional Rollercoaster we have as a boss happened. I can’t deal with him right now. Please, handle him for today. I am done," I announced and she slowly smiled—a smile of her understanding.

Bringing her arms down, she hugged sideways.

"Oh! Arata. I think Mr Karsten cares for you more than he is ready to admit. He has never shown much interest in anyone before. He never cared whom I hung out with or his previous secretaries. But he does for you. Maybe it’s because of the contract," she wondered aloud.

"Whatever, I just want so peaceful ti away from his domineering presence. Tonight, I have to bear with him again." Rembering I needed to accompany him to the event with the Board of Directors.

"His words can be harsh but he is never unjust. I understand how overwhelming it can get for you as a new person, but please don’t lose hope. We need you here," she seed desperate and I could imagine others must have quit because of his actions.

"I am not going anywhere, just need a few hours away from him."

"I understand, Arata. If he calls, I will handle it. Just relax, you are going to have a tough night," she said in a caring and understanding tone.

"I appreciate you, Miranda." I hugged her back before she straightened up.

Settling down in the chair opposite , she diverted my mood by bringing gossip from other departnts and important people in the company.

"You know Mr Ranold is known to date every rising girl in the company? Many heads of departnts have slept with him," she told with a giggle.

"Woah! Really? Both friends can’t seem to keep their hands off the won." I shrugged my shoulders with a wrinkle of my nose and Miranda wholeheartedly laughed.

Our gossip and talks continued as Miranda opened up about her family. She was a widow and never married again after the passing of her husband five years ago. She had an eleven-year-old son.

"His na is Monike, he loves skateboarding, and video gas. He is a smart kid." She opened her phone and showed a picture of a young but intelligent-looking boy with curly blonde hair. The pride she held in her eyes for her son was imasurable.

"Aww, he has your eyes and nose, such a handso young man. More power to him," I bead while handing her the phone back. She accepted and proudly smiled.

"I know you dislike Mr Karsten right now but he has secured my boy’s future by setting up a trust fund for his education. He handles everything related to my boy and ets him monthly to ensure he is properly taken care of. No one but him and I know about this and now I have told you."

Crap! Whenever I found a fault in Karsten so hidden good deed of his always surfaced to make not hate him. He was taking care of a fatherless child and after what he had told about his father, I could imagine why.

"I am glad to hear that Karsten has taken this initiative. Monike will have a bright future."

My words were hardly out of my mouth when there was another knock on the door, followed by Karsten’s deep but calm voice.

"Arata, can I co in?"

Great, think of the devil and he is here.
