Chapter 554: Chapter 544 Post-Dinner Exercise
Zun Shen said, “No matter what, the architecture and scenery here belong to the Cangshan Mountain Imperial City, so this should still be the Cangshan Mountain Imperial City. If we ask our surviving friends, we should be able to figure out what happened.”
Then everyone began checking their friends list.
To everyone’s shock, their faces turned ashen as they cried out in alarm, “How could this be?!”
“This shouldn’t be!”
“My God, what… what on earth happened?”
Zun Shen also looked grim, and when he turned to General Yu, his face was even more ashen.
Finally, soone yelled, “All of my friends, except for the ones here, are all grayed out, which is the color of death! They’re all dead!”
“Impossible, absolutely impossible! Nearly five million people, including the invincible Empress and the strong Imperial Guards, and on top of the imperial city there was the Sword Formation… Who could have killed them all? Not even those chickens could do it!” General Yu was the first to argue.
Zun Shen said gravely, “If they’re not dead, why would their nas be gray? If they were offline, then it should be black. Gray represents death, and that is undoubtedly true! It seems that during the ti we were waiting for resurrection, sothing terrible took place in the city!”
“I don’t believe it! I don’t believe that soone could kill five million people and NPCs within three days without leaving a single survivor! Wait, the NPCs are also gone… Could they all be dead too?” General Yu asked.
Zun Shen shook his head and said, “I don’t know, but I intend to find out and see what exactly happened.”
Although General Yu was hot-tempered, he wasn’t irrational and imdiately said, “I’m going too!”
However, several hundred thousand people gathering together to set off was clearly not feasible, even if the roads of the imperial city were wide…
Thus, they divided into many large and small teams and dispersed into the city, keeping in touch through the gang channel, ready to send ssages at the first sign of trouble so others could reinforce them as quickly as possible.
Once the players dispersed into the various streets of the imperial city, they quickly discovered signs of battle. There were many collapsed walls and ruins, and in so places, copious amounts of bloodstains.
As the sun finally set behind the mountains, the temperature dropped significantly, and with the breeze blowing, it indeed felt intensely cold.
Added to this terrifying environnt, every player felt so on edge that they trembled with fear.
Especially so players who ventured into the Imperial Palace, from a distance they heard a terrifying, gloomy voice coming from the grand hall, as if rising up from the ground, weak and breathless. That sound seed like a chorus of people whispering…
As the wind blew, the whispering carried with it, fragnting into pieces, making it unclear what they were saying.
The shattered voices, hoarse and deep as if coming from the Nine Netherworlds, made everyone passing by bristle with fear!
“General Yu, there is sothing in the Imperial Palace!”
“Zun Shen, co quickly, there’s sothing terrifying in the Imperial Palace!”
Both sides reported urgently, and Zun Shen and General Yu imdiately led their people toward the Imperial Palace.
Entering the palace and crossing two grand halls led to the Worship Square, and beyond that was the Morning Audience Hall, which was also the conference hall of the Cangshan Mountain Palace.
They didn’t have to reach the Morning Audience Hall. Just by reaching the gates of the Worship Square, they could hear the fragnted whispering voices, vague, deep, hoarse, eerie, terrifying, and tinged with traces of despair and pleading.
In that instant, General Yu, Zun Shen, and masters like Yinianjian broke into a cold sweat from fear.
Yinianjian swallowed hard and said, “Why do I feel like they’re muttering, ‘don’t kill ,’ or ‘avenge ,’ or sothing like that?”
“Don’t talk nonsense; they should be reciting scriptures,” Zun Shen refuted.
General Yu’s expression was also not good, “No, it’s not scripture. It’s not about revenge either. It’s more like they’re saying how terribly they died.”
The more they talked, the more dreadful everyone’s expression beca…
If this were in the Cangshan Mountain World, they would have already charged in.
But having witnessed the terror of chickens and Groundhogs in this world, and even more sinister ghosts, they lacked the courage to make a move.
“Everyone says General Yu is formidable, his Yulin Army slaughters gods and Buddhas alike. General Yu, why don’t you take a look?” Zun Shen said with killing praise.
General Yu chuckled, “My Yulin Army is not that powerful; we couldn’t even defeat a chicken.
Since your Zun Shen Gang is nurous and powerful; you should go.”
Zun Shen shook his head, “We won’t go. We’re just a casual gang in society and don’t manage imperial court affairs. General Yu, being the Great General of the Cangshan Empire, shouldn’t you check out what’s happening in the Imperial Palace? Protecting the sovereign and the like, that’s your responsibility, isn’t it?”
His words hit General Yu’s Achilles’ heel; this was indeed his place to manage.
However, General Yu did not proceed, well aware that in the Cangshan Mountain World, although he was the Great General, here he was less than a chicken. Reckless action would an death for all thirty thousand people.
General Yu looked at Zun Shen, “I don’t want to discuss these useless matters with you. If I don’t go in, and you don’t go in, then neither of us will. If that’s the case, the mysteries here will remain unsolved forever. Maybe we’re still in West Kunlun, or perhaps we’ve entered another parallel, bizarre dinsion.
Don’t forget, this is All Heavens and myriad worlds, anything is possible.
If we do not clarify everything, our death will only be a matter of ti, even if we continue to retreat.”
Zun Shen was silent because General Yu was right.
“What do you suggest?” Zun Shen asked.
General Yu looked up and said, “Whether it’s chickens or groundhogs, they must have proven their absolute strength. Whoever encounters them is a dead…
So, this ti, let’s not send the little ones. You and I together will push open these big doors and see what on earth is causing trouble in that great hall!”
Zun Shen looked at General Yu, his brows exuding a brave and fierce aura, and then at the mbers of the Zun Shen Gang who had followed him. If he refused now, he would be seen as lesser than General Yu, and might even leave the image of a coward in the minds of his gang mbers.
This was not what he wanted, so he burst out laughing, “Fine, I’ll join you!”
General Yu said, “You’ve got guts!”
Then the two exchanged glances, took a step forward at the sa ti, and walked towards the doors of Worship Square.
Both placed their hands on the big doors…
Suddenly, General Yu asked, “What do you think is behind this door?”
Zun Shen laughed casually, with boundless bravado, “Who cares what’s behind it? It can’t be groundhogs, right? General Yu, what do you think is behind this door?”
General Yu laughed heartily, “I bet, it certainly isn’t chickens!”
Both burst into laughter together, using the jest to bolster their courage. Then they took a deep breath and pushed hard—open!
The big doors made a rumbling, dull sound as they were pushed open, and then the two were stunned!
Behind the door ca a roar, “Who the hell is it? Who’s making such a racket outside in the middle of the night? Ouch… and pushing the door too!”
Looking down at the sound, they saw several fat groundhogs sitting on the ground being pushed by the big door.
But what was more terrifying was that there were not just a few of these groundhogs, but a horde!
A huge horde!
An endless number of them at first glance!
These creatures were sitting in Worship Square, so drinking, so eating at, and so sleeping on the ground with giant snot bubbles!
General Yu swallowed hard and cursed, “Zun Shen, are you a crow turned into a human? Your words are too damn ominous!”
Zun Shen also swallowed hard, “Look at the ceiling.”
“Look at your mothe… What the hell!” General Yu was about to curse, but as soon as he looked up, he was dumbfounded!
The great hall seed to have magically grown a lot taller than usual!
At the very mont he looked, countless red dots lit up on the hall’s ceiling. As the clouds parted, the Moon peeked out, casting a silvery glow on the roof…
That instant, General Yu felt like his scalp was about to explode!
Because he saw the roof was crowded with one plump—chicken after another!
Zun Shen, without turning back, cupped his hands together and said, “General Yu, it seems we’re in the sa boat!”
Then the two looked at each other and saw the bitterness in each other’s eyes. Zun Shen said, “Now I know where all the people in the Imperial City have gone.”
General Yu forced a smile, “Now I know too. So, what do we do?”
Zun Shen smiled faintly, “What do we do?”
The next mont, Zun Shen turned and ran for it, “Retreat, retreat, retreat! Hurry and retreat! Run, every man for himself!”
General Yu was stunned, then cursed loudly, “Damn it!”
Then he also shouted, “Run, run fast, the city is full of chickens and groundhogs!”
Suddenly, a swath of white appeared on the rooftops in the distance. Upon closer inspection, these turned out to be white rabbit heads!
“Rabbits?!” General Yu and Zun Shen were shocked. Instant realized sothing wasn’t right and scread, “Those rabbits are not normal, they’re a lot bigger than usual, and their faces are full of bulging muscles! Be careful!”
Before he finished speaking, a giant rabbit leapt out and shouted, “Post-dinner exercise, begin!”
“Roar!”
Roars rose from all directions, and in an instant, the group of rabbits jumped down from the rooftops, pouring out of the houses, and as they ran, they cloned themselves. The originally spacious street was instantly filled by over a million rabbits, as they pushed and trampled over each other in a mad rush, like a gigantic black and white tidal wave sweeping over everything, a horrific scene straight out of a nightmare!
“Damn it, I must be dreaming? I just went to kill so chickens, got killed in return… and then these rabbits show up after I resurrect?” General Yu slapped himself hard, the pain making him wince, and then he realized this was not a dream!
“Run to the left!” Zun Shen shouted, and the crowd started running to the left.
Then they heard the thunderous rumble to the left, like thunder. Looking carefully, at the end of the street, a group of wild boars, as big as small houses, were charging with their heads down!
The numbers of those wild boars were endless, impossible to count!
After all, they were too big!
“Run to the right!” General Yu shouted, then saw a pack of wolves appearing on the right side of the street. So were running on the ground, others on the rooftops, cloning themselves as they ran, quickly filling up every space on the streets and rooftops!
