A ssage arrived from the Radiant Goddess in the Old World. Her due date was approaching, so I decided to return. Since Fatalis was scheduled to be fought at Schrade Castle anyway, being in the Old World was fine. Serious Handler also decided to co, to see her family after a long ti.
When I arrived ho, the Radiant Goddess was lying in bed with a swollen belly. Seeing , she cried tears of joy. Knowing this, I should have visited more often — but I'd been too absorbed in my work.
"I missed you. Are you hurt anywhere?"
"I'm always healthy. Are you uncomfortable?"
"I'm fine."
I spent my ti taking care of her, telling her about what had happened. I also hired so unemployed won from the village to help with housework and prepare for the birth. I didn't forget to write reports about the New World. Since this was my final report, I delivered it personally to the king.

The king got straight to the point — a sign of how serious the situation was.
"Are you familiar with the Black Dragon?"
"I am. The one said to have destroyed the Schrade Kingdom."
"Then this will be quick. Recently, the consensus among several kingdoms is that the Black Dragon 'Fatalis' has reappeared at Schrade Castle. Our own investigation reached the sa conclusion."
"I see."
The king stared at and said.
"You don't seem surprised at all."
"Wow~ I'm so surprised."
When I overacted, the king frowned.
"You call that acting? Geez... Anyway, I want you to hunt Fatalis. I'll provide whatever support you need."
"Very well. I don't need anything else. Just summon my partner Serious Handler, and take good care of my pregnant girlfriend at my estate."
"Is that truly enough?"
"Yes. More people would only an more casualties."
"I see. Understood."
The king signaled to soone nearby. That person left and returned with Serious Handler. She was wearing a beautiful dress and makeup.
"The person you call 'Serious Handler' is my daughter. The Second Princess of this kingdom."
I was quite surprised. There had been rumors that Serious Handler might be a princess — and they were true.
"Wow. Now I'm genuinely surprised."
"When she said she was joining the Commission, I opposed it strongly, but she wouldn't budge."
"I see."
"My heart nearly stopped when I heard so many had died in the Hoarfrost Reach. I cannot send a princess to such danger."
At the king's words, Serious Handler tried to persuade him.
"Father! We've been partners for a long ti. Without , the Red Star will have a harder ti hunting Fatalis."
"You are a princess. So—"
Serious Handler cut him off.
"If we fail to hunt Fatalis, our kingdom will follow Schrade into ruin. What good is a princess then? Please, allow ."
"Sigh... This is insane... Whom do you take after?"

"Cough! Ahem..."
The king eventually relented. We would rest one day and then depart. Since this news would be bad for the pregnant woman, we decided to keep it a secret and tell her we were going on business. The king also provided a physician.
The next day, Serious Handler, my Palico, and I took a carriage to a village near Schrade Castle. Worried about being ambushed if we went too close, we switched to Wingdrakes from there.
Arriving at Schrade Castle, we set up a temporary camp in a high watchtower on the outskirts and studied the castle's layout.
"Looking at the map, there's a Dragonator at the back. But looking at the actual thing, the entrance is sealed off. We can't use it."
"I wasn't counting on it anyway."

In the original, the sealed entrance is destroyed by Fatalis's first breath, allowing use of the Dragonator. But this was reality, not a ga — anything could happen. Like with Safi'jiiva, one breath might lt the Dragonator too. So I wouldn't rely on it. Besides, my Great Swords were stronger than any Dragonator.
After surveying the area, we waited in our tent, cooking and eating until Fatalis appeared. Serious Handler's cooking was delicious.
We finished our al and waited. Suddenly, the ground shook.
RRRUMBLE~~
We looked down at the castle. A black Elder Dragon was walking toward the entrance.
"That's Fatalis? It's smaller than I expected."
Having hunted massive monsters like Zorah Magdaros and Safi'jiiva with , her perspective had changed. But I thought differently. It was slightly larger than in the original — but only slightly. It was still smaller than dragons from other fictional worlds.
'It looks cool, but the size is a bit disappointing.'
I drew my Great Swords and prepared.
"Be careful."
"Got it."
To begin the final battle of the Monster Hunter world, my Palico and I took a Wingdrake to the castle entrance. Unlike the original, Fatalis didn't wait. It imdiately opened its mouth and fired a fireball.

I quickly jumped off the Wingdrake and landed on the outer edge of the entrance. I was annoyed. It's an unwritten rule among the strong: you don't attack during intros and transformations.
"This bastard! Hitting during my entrance!"
"ow ow ow ow! (What are you talking about? You were planning to sneak attack him too!)"
"Shh! Quiet!"
"ow ow. (Unbelievable.)"
While we bickered, Fatalis looked at us and imdiately unleashed a powerful breath.
"Wah!"
I quickly scooped up my Palico and dodged by jumping toward Fatalis. There was a reason I dodged this way. Fatalis's breath covers a wide area, lting even stone in its path. It looked like a classic Western dragon's breath, but its power was on another level.
"You're no good here. Head back to the watchtower when you get a chance. Burrowing won't save you."
"ow! (Got it!)"
Given the breath's unexpected power, I decided to evacuate my Palico. Even underground, he'd be cooked.
I moved quickly, closed into Fatalis's chest, and swung my Great Swords upward, slashing its chest.
SHLICE!
Fatalis roared in pain and staggered, then slamd down with its foreleg.
CRASH!
I sidestepped and slashed the foreleg.
SLICE!
"GRAAAGH!!"
With a powerful counter, Fatalis's arm was severed — dangling by a thread. Realizing the danger, it flapped its wings and rose high into the air, then began raining down powerful flas. I quickly hid behind a tal frawork, like in the original.
FWOOOOSHHH~~!!!
Its breath was truly sothing else. Despite the frawork being quite thick, it glowed red and began lting. I had no choice but to block the heat with my Great Swords. Fortunately, my Palico had already escaped.
"This is very different from the original."
I thought the breath attack would end and it would land. But Fatalis, knowing the danger of fighting on the ground, kept flying and rained flas only on my position. This Fatalis was old and experienced — it made the most rational choice.
"You bastard!"
I could also fly, but there were witnesses — and sohow, doing that would bruise my pride. So I waited until it flew closer to breathe again, then jumped at the right mont, using my clutch claw to latch onto its thigh. Fatalis shook its leg violently trying to dislodge , but my grip was too strong.
While hanging on, I stabbed its thigh repeatedly with my short sword.
STAB STAB STAB STAB!
Fatalis suddenly dove toward the ground — likely trying to crush . I tid my jump and let go just before impact.
CRASH!!
Then I used my clutch claw again, this ti latching onto its back.
"Now you won't be flying anywhere!"
This ti, I used my Great Swords, not a short sword, to sever its wing.
SLICE!
"GRAAAGH!!"
With one wing severed, Fatalis roared and rolled on the ground. I was forced to jump off. Seeing fall, Fatalis turned its head and unleashed a powerful breath around itself — as if telling to stay back.
I moved out of its range.
Wounded, Fatalis struggled to stand, swaying, and glared straight at . It had no intention of running.
"Grrrr..."
Unlike Shara Ishvalda, which had tried to flee when at a disadvantage, Fatalis had a different level of pride.
"You're pretty cool."
Fatalis spread its remaining wing and roared — as if steeling itself.
"KRRRAAAGH!!!"
Then, mouth open, it charged at . The ideal response would be to dodge and counter, but I decided to et it head-on. I compressed my mana into my dual Great Swords, held them together, and swung down as Fatalis charged.
SWOOOOSH~!!!
The charging Fatalis stopped mid-stride as its head split in two.

As I stood looking at Fatalis's corpse, Serious Handler and my Palico flew down on a Wingdrake.
"Amazing! You hunted the legendary Black Dragon!"

We carved Fatalis and went to a village to inform the kingdom. Many knights and scholars ca to examine the corpse. We left Schrade Castle to them and returned to the palace.
"Truly incredible! Hunting a legend — now you are a legend."
"Well... I am the strongest."
"R-right. Anyway, you are a model for all hunters. I intend to erect a statue of you in the hunters' guild. I will also grant you a fief. Manage it well. Lastly, I have one request: please take my daughter with you."
The king wanted to marry Serious Handler.
"What? But I already have a pregnant girlfriend."
"Don't worry. For a man of your caliber, taking multiple wives is natural."

Five more years passed. I considered watching the ending, but my daughter was too cute, so I didn't. During that ti, Serious Handler gave birth to a son. Training rookie hunters also raised my [(SS) Teacher] to SSS rank.
