"Selena Quinn considers herself clever, yet doesn’t realize she’s already beco your pawn, right?" Hector Shaw laughed mockingly.

"Not quite. Everyone gets what they need," Seraphina Redgrave glanced at the clock, realizing how much ti had passed.

"Alright, let’s talk next ti, bye."

Seraphina got up, ready to hang up the phone when Hector suddenly asked seriously, "Seraphina Redgrave, is it just because of Ethan Sterling’s power that you don’t want to fall out with him?"

Upon hearing this question, Seraphina’s lips pressed together, her feelings a bit complex.

"It’s not just that."

Hector trusted his judgnt.

Seraphina wasn’t soone who easily showed her emotions, yet she had approached him twice about such a matter.

If there were no feelings involved, he wouldn’t believe it.

Seraphina lowered her gaze, staring nowhere, and after a long pause, she said, word by word, "I feel sorry for him."

Her voice carried a hint of softness even she didn’t notice.

Sorry for him losing his mother at birth, sorry for him being abused by servants as a child, sorry for his sister dying while protecting him, sorry for his biological father insulting her mother in front of him, sorry for him being alone without a confidant.

He was frighteningly cold in business, yet before her, though stubborn, he was like a child.

Unreasonably demanding, just wanting her to accompany him for life.

She couldn’t remain hard-hearted against this side of him.

So she was willing to do things she once resisted, hoping he wouldn’t remain so anxious.

"!"

Hector was shocked; he hadn’t expected Seraphina would truly admit it.

"However, this won’t affect my plan. I am clear about what I truly need."

The cold Seraphina returned, alarmingly rational.

She couldn’t promise to accompany Ethan for a lifeti; since she couldn’t do it, she wouldn’t promise.

He could only help him find soone who could be with him for life.

Selena Quinn might not be a good person, but at least her feelings for Ethan were genuine.

That’s good enough.

After saying this, Seraphina hung up the phone.

Soon after, she heard the sound of a car pulling in; it was Ethan returning.

...

A few days later, a call from The Law Council finally ca, neither too early nor too late, just right.

Seraphina drove over.

The Law Council’s building was imposing, occupying the most bustling area in the northern part of Sovereign.

In front of the entrance stood a gigantic sculpture of Themis, the goddess of earth’s rules, guarding worldly order and justice.

In front of this sculpture was a wide open space; staff mbers wearing the emblem representing justice would occasionally pass by.

Unlike others’ awe and reverence, Seraphina rely looked on calmly.

She aid to rebuild Veridian Isle and saw this as a turning point.

Seraphina pushed open the car door; the heat wave made her feel sowhat restless.

"Sylvia!"

Soone called her.

Seraphina turned to see a delicate woman with a fragile smile slowly approaching.

No matter how exquisite the makeup was, it couldn’t conceal the aura of sickness surrounding her.

"Didn’t expect to run into each other here, such a coincidence." Selena received the sunshade from her bodyguard, getting close to Seraphina.

"I’m here for the exam too; with you as a role model, the school recomnded I give it a try."

Seraphina stood still, smirking slightly, "You’re working hard. So weak and still insisting on following , aren’t you afraid of dying halfway through the exam?"

"..."

I’d die from anger over your words.

Selena gripped the sunshade tightly, controlling her emotions, then managed a smile, "Sylvia, you’re really good at joking."

"I actually admire you a lot. For pushing The Defiance Society to this height so quickly, you must possess unique qualities. I appreciate you, hence my desire to follow."

Thick-skinned enough to turn black into white.

Seraphina wasn’t angry; she found it intriguing and smirked mischievously, "Well, I thought you just wanted to connect with Ethan through ."

Selena frowned slightly, earnestly: "Sylvia, you can’t say things like that arbitrarily. I only see him as a brother."

Not the right ti to admit, can’t easily acknowledge this.

In her rebirth, only victory was permissible; every step had to be cautious.

"Oh, alright." Seraphina looked indifferent.

Seeing Seraphina’s expression, Selena gnashed her teeth, hating her way of seeming to understand everything.

No trace appeared on her face as she searched for a topic.

"That’s a custom-made full AI car by your brother. He’s really good to you; I wanted to borrow it for a ride, but he wouldn’t let ."

She resembled a sister eager for her brother’s affection.

Seraphina didn’t want to play along, simply leaving a remark, "Better stay away; I wouldn’t want to explain it to Ethan."

Then she left swaggeringly.

"Cough cough... cough!" Selena’s face turned pale as she coughed violently.

Sylvia Shaw, I’ll rember this.

Unless you pay a painful price, I won’t rest.

Seraphina paid no attention to the woman behind her, confidently ascending the steps, entering the building, and following the signs to the exam room.

Everyone else had arrived; only five participants, mostly older and appearing confident.

The remaining two spots were reserved for her and Selena.

Seraphina casually chose a seat, Selena arrived late, perhaps angered by her.

Once ti started, the teacher handed out the exam papers.

Multiple-choice and judgnt questions covered most legal articles; the final case analysis questions were extrely complex, chosen from highly controversial cases.

The only sound in the exam room was the scratch of pens on paper; occasionally, Selena’s coughing could be heard.

The written exam ended smoothly, surprisingly so—making Seraphina feel unexpected.

She assud with Selena’s personality, she’d cause so trouble, yet this ti she was rather restrained.

Seems she’s grown after all; those harmless little tricks have faded away, making Seraphina feel relieved.

After the written exam, it was ti for interviews.

Seraphina wore a fitting white shirt and black trousers, formal yet casually stylish.

Sitting before the interviewers, she calmly answered all their questions.

"You’re the first person I’ve seen who can recite legal articles backward."

Like a walking legal search engine, the female interviewer could not hide her shock.

"No wonder the President holds you in such high regard; truly formidable. Welco to join our Law Council."

Decided on the spot.

Seraphina was unsurprised by the outco, having ample confidence in herself.
