Lin Xinglan was unwilling.
Song Lili absolutely didn’t want to have anything to do with Lin Xinglan, let alone squabble with her. It was purely the naive delusions of that little girl.
But military orders were like mountains, and she couldn’t disobey.
"You can’t even stand at attention properly. Is a twenty-minute stance really that difficult?"
Song Lili looked at Lin Xinglan pouting reluctantly in front of her and asked, exasperated.
It had been three days, and they were still lingering in the very basic "standing at attention" stage!
"That sweat drips down, and it tickles my face! A quick scratch, who would see in formation..."
Lin Xinglan turned her eyes away, muttering.
"Everybody else stands still, and you move! Even just that secret scratch is too obvious! Are the instructor’s eyes blind!"
"Why are you being so fierce?"
Lin Xinglan lifted her chin, her voice raising an octave.
Song Lili looked at this bratty girl, took a deep breath, and felt like she was dealing with sobody’s unruly kid!
She was truly infuriating!
"I’m saying, Miss Lin, how exactly did you get into the military academy?"
Song Lili was not suspicious for the first ti, "You’re the precious daughter of Xilin City’s mayor. Wouldn’t staying at ho and being a princess be better? What are you doing at a military academy?"
"Mind your own business!"
She didn’t want to interfere either, but Lin Xinglan was like her nesis, making her entire new life start with less-than-pleasant military academy experiences.
Lin Xinglan was sure that Song Lili couldn’t really do anything to her.
After all, if her training showed no results, Song Lili would be the one to be punished, not her. Thinking of this made her even more presumptuous.
Sitting on the ground, Lin Xinglan put her cap over her face to block the scorching sun,
"I’m tired, I need to rest."
Sweat stread down Song Lili’s face without pause. With her hands behind her back, all she could do was stand aside and wait for the young lady to rest up.
She looked up at the sky...
Before she ca to Xilin Military Academy, there had been a sense of yearning. After arrival, she was disappointed by the clear class stratification within the school.
The school motto remained distinguished and revered.
Yet the children of officials and military officers, compared to those from ordinary families, and even more so compared to those from rural households, clearly possessed an air of superiority.
Duan Chen happened to be on patrol at that ti and walked over when he saw the two training separately.
Upon approaching, he frowned. Song Lili, sensing the movent, turned and saw Duan Chen, and was about to speak when Duan Shen raised a hand to stop her.
Song Lili let out a sigh.
Duan Chen walked up to Lin Xinglan, reached out, and removed her cap,
"What are you doing—Duan, Duan..."
Lin Xinglan’s eyes widened, and she beca tongue-tied, which made Song Lili pick up on sothing.
"Lin Xinglan, countless young people harbor dreams yet fail to enter the military academy, and you, through your father’s connections, have wasted an opportunity that others could only dream of."
"Duan... Chen..."
"Take off this military uniform and go ho."
The already fierce look on Duan Chen’s face, when it turned cold, was genuinely intimidating.
Especially for Lin Xinglan, who beca noticeably panicked, scrambling up from the ground,
"Duan Chen! I—I was just resting for a mont! I will train seriously! I have been training seriously until now, I just rested for this little bit! Don’t believe ? Ask Tang Xiaohua!"
Lin Xinglan quickly pulled Tang Xiaohua over, asking her to bear witness.
"Tang Xiaohua, help out here, tell the officer—"
"I only trust what I see with my own eyes. Lin Xinglan, everyone who cos here has their reasons, so seek to be trained, so hope for a good future after graduation, and so are committed to this path. But no matter what your intent, doing well in the task at hand is the least to be expected."
"Afraid of the sun, afraid of getting tired, wanting to rest, wouldn’t it be more comfortable to roll back ho and lie in bed?"
"..."
Song Lili mused to herself, when Duan Chen spoke harsh words, he sure didn’t lose out to Lu Ziqing.
