This question, Ann Vaughn once heard the ladies in the secretarial office describe with one sentence.
"A walking money printing machine, billions within minutes."
Without waiting for Ann Vaughn to answer, Cyrus Hawthorne raised an eyebrow with a faint smile and said, "No one has ever dared to make wait; you’re the first."
"But if there’s no sweetness involved, don’t even think about it."
Ann Vaughn’s breath tightened, dazzled by the sharp glint in his narrowed eyes, and blurted, "You want... what sweetness?"
...
The black Maybach raced down the highway.
Ann Vaughn sat in the passenger seat pretending to be dead, her reflection in the window showing a scandalously blush face, her tightly pursed lips were vividly red, slightly swollen.
She had no idea what kind of aggressive treatnt she endured to be ravaged into such a state.
Considering everything that happened afterwards, the more Ann Vaughn thought about it, the more she felt sothing was off. She turned her body towards Cyrus Hawthorne who was driving, staring curiously at his handso side profile.
"I suspect you tricked again..."
"Hmm?" Cyrus responded calmly, his expression unchanged, "Didn’t you promise to be my fiancée?"
"That’s right, but..."
"Didn’t you promise to marry when the ti is right?"
"Yes, but this..."
Cyrus cast a sideways glance at the clearly conflicted Ann Vaughn, his voice low, "So, what are you conflicted about?"
Ann Vaughn: "..."
He seed to have a point??
She did promise him herself... So why did she feel like she’d been deceived?
This question puzzled Ann Vaughn as she returned to Bamboo Creek Villa. Susie Somrs imdiately ca over from next door when she heard the noise for a snack, but seeing Ann Vaughan’s red swollen lips and blushing cheeks, she exclaid like her eyes had gone blind.
"Tsk tsk tsk, your man doesn’t know how to cherish you at all. The love marks from a few days ago have just faded, and now here cos more. If you remarry him, can your small body even handle it?"
Susie chewed on potato chips with a sour tone, urging Ann Vaughn not to think too deeply about remarriage; as good sisters, staying single is the way.
Ann Vaughn took a chip and put it in her mouth, helplessly recounting what had just happened.
She was still a bit dazed.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about whether Cyrus would propose if they remarried...
But in truth, she didn’t hold much hope.
Until the ticulously crafted maze flower wall, fireworks with her and Cyrus’ nas blossod in the sky, and the sea of red roses appeared before her eyes—
Her heart almost exploded.
"You actually refused?!" Susie couldn’t believe it, looking at Ann Vaughn with disbelief, "Just hearing about it makes want to cry from being moved, how did you manage to heartlessly refuse?"
Even without the proposal or wedding, just for the sake of a marriage certificate, nurous won pursued Cyrus.
Compared to the wealth and power he possessed, these things seed insignificant.
He didn’t have to go to these lengths, but he did.
Just because Ann Vaughn was soone who valued such ceremonial aspects, simply because she liked them.
Just thinking about it made Susie nearly unbearable, questioning again, "So why did you refuse?"
"Because I realized," Ann Vaughn lowered her eyes, hiding the real emotion underneath, "he seems to have never said he loves ."
Susie instantly recognized it as an excuse, she was about to reveal the truth, but suddenly rembered the previous incident.
"Is it because of the birth control pills, you still can’t let it go?"
She hit the mark, Ann Vaughn couldn’t hide it from her, silently nodding.
Susie guessed it was like this, she had known Ann Vaughn for a solid seven years, her thoughts couldn’t escape her.
She seed to have forgotten about the birth control pills on the surface, never bringing it up again.
But this didn’t an she truly didn’t care about it deep down.
Things kept silently within are the hardest to let go, Ann Vaughn was just like that.
"Sigh," Susie sighed, offered the chip bag over, "Eat my chips, forget about him, and remain entangled with till the end of the world."
"Pfft, no way, I’m afraid your uncle would send people to get ." Ann Vaughn joked, then took clothes and went to the bathroom.
Susie thought of Julian Master Moore, whose ascetic nature made him untouchable, and suddenly felt the chips in her hand weren’t tasty anymore.
In the bathroom.
Gentle, pleasant music floated in her ears, Ann Vaughn half-laying in the bathtub, eyes closed, letting the hot water envelop her, relieving all her exhaustion.
But her mind remained chaotic, continually thinking things over.
How odd...
Exactly where did she feel off?
Before Ann Vaughn could figure it out, Bella Hawthorne called.
As one of the insiders on Cyrus’ proposal tonight, Bella Hawthorne had been restless all night, couldn’t concentrate even during acting classes, seized the ti to call Ann Vaughn.
Yet upon hearing Ann Vaughn’s contrary answer, Bella Hawthorne almost sucked in a cold noodle.
"Sister-in-law, did my brother do sothing poorly, upset you?"
"No, everything he prepared I really liked." Ann Vaughn wasn’t brushing off Bella Hawthorne.
The photos on the maze flower wall would be sent to her specially tomorrow.
She wanted to keep them as ntoes!
However, the words "birth control pills" lingered like shadows; whenever she thought of them, Ann Vaughn felt her brain ache, all her emotions dampened.
"Since sister-in-law liked it, why would you refuse then?"
Listening to Bella Hawthorne’s words, a strange feeling erged within Ann Vaughn, she reached for the towel when she suddenly saw the ring on her ring finger.
The black diamond appeared pitch black under the night sky, but now it seed to turn a beautiful goose yellow...
Wait... Why is this ring on her finger??
"Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?" Not hearing Ann Vaughn’s response for a long ti, Bella Hawthorne asked puzzled.
Staring at the ring, Ann Vaughn suddenly ca to her senses, finally realizing where she felt sothing was off!
Ten minutes later, Susie saw Ann Vaughn storm out of the bathroom as she watched a drama in the living room, she asked curiously, "What’s wrong?"
Ann Vaughn looked aggrieved, "I said sothing felt odd—I did refuse Cyrus’ proposal, but he acted like I went too far, wanting so sweetness; one kiss wasn’t enough, he wanted a title!"
"In the end, I muddleheadedly agreed to be his fiancée, even put on the ring—but how is this any different from accepting his proposal?!"
