"By the way, I clearly saw you drink that glass of water, but how did you wake up so quickly?" Ann Vaughn ignored his accusatory gaze and asked the question that had been puzzling her.

ntioning this, Josiah Keaton frowned and recalled, "I don’t know where there was a short circuit, but in my daze, I felt a current passing through , jolting awake."

If he had woken up a bit later, he might have lost his life right there.

He definitely needed Dean Master Moore to find him a new dormitory soon.

Preferably as far away from that pretty boy next door as possible, to avoid having to guard against him flirting with Ann Vaughn every day.

Ann Vaughn was unaware of Josiah Keaton’s thoughts and just felt sothing odd hearing him say that, though she couldn’t quite pinpoint what was strange.

Even though the plan to infiltrate the prison had fallen apart midway, Ann Vaughn didn’t co out empty-handed.

At least she had confird a high likelihood that the person held in the forest prison was Cyrus Hawthorne.

Otherwise, the base wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to capture a spy; they clearly anticipated soone would co rescue him, deliberately waiting here to trap her.

She needed to co up with a plan to verify it again...

The following day.

In an independent laboratory.

"Are you kidding ?" Josiah Keaton’s temple veins bulged as he tossed the docunts on the table without hesitation, rejecting Dean Master Moore’s unreasonable request, "Are all the researchers in the base dead? If Wade Lowell needs an assistant, can’t you assign him soone randomly? Why target my assistant?!"

Ann Vaughn, tidying up the table nearby, flinched.

What’s going on?

"Your actions last night already violated the base’s rules. The higher-ups haven’t punished you because they’re being lenient. It’s fine with whatever you do outside, but this is not a place for your recklessness." Dean Master Moore maintained an official attitude, "This is also on the orders of the gentleman."

Josiah Keaton smirked coldly, understanding.

The base was suspicious of Ann Vaughn’s identity and was hesitant to take action because of him.

The excuses were just grandiose.

"Anyway, I disagree. Sumr is my assistant; you have no right to decide her fate." Josiah Keaton crossed his arms, "And don’t think everything will be fine with Sumr not by my side. Young n can be reckless regardless of gender, caring only about usability."

Dean Master Moore: "..."

Ann Vaughn: "..."

What the hell kind of wolfish words are these?

Dean Master Moore felt his blood pressure spike, nearly blacking out, "I don’t care whether you agree or not; the gentleman has decided. You know full well the consequences of disobeying him."

Josiah Keaton frowned, remained silent.

The atmosphere beca sowhat tense.

"Dr. Keaton, it’s alright." Ann Vaughn broke the silence after thinking for a while, looking into Josiah Keaton’s eyes filled with surprise, "It’s just for a while, assisting Dr. Locke. It’s essentially the sa as working by your side, and I can handle it."

Josiah Keaton was stunned, and gradually understanding her underlying aning, his frown deepened.

"Are you serious?"

"Of course."

"..." Josiah Keaton remained silent for a mont, couldn’t help shooting Ann Vaughn a glare, then turned to Dean Master Moore, "I’m warning you, however you take Sumr away, make sure she returns in the sa condition. If she loses a single hair, neither you nor Wade Lowell will get away with it!"

Dean Master Moore smiled wearily, "That will depend on your assistant’s performance."

Half an hour later.

In the core laboratory number 029 at the base center.

A tall, slender man stood before the lab bench, holding a report in his left hand and calmly adjusting the precision instrunts on the table with his right. His silver-rimd glasses glead with a cold, ascetic light on his chiseled nose bridge.

He was completely absorbed in his research, too preoccupied to notice anyone else. Even as Dean Master Moore brought Ann Vaughn to his side, he didn’t even look up.

"Dr. Locke, here’s your new assistant. Just order her to do whatever you need. I won’t disturb your work further." With that, Dean Master Moore patted Ann Vaughn’s shoulder, advising aningfully, "Just follow Dr. Locke and help him with his tasks."

Provided, of course, she could survive under Wade Lowell.

Ann Vaughn got a creepy feeling from Dean Master Moore’s weird smile and turned her eyes to the figure at the lab bench, inexplicably sensing a familiarity.

Brownish hair, silver-rimd glasses...

Isn’t this the cool guy next door to Josiah Keaton?!

Ann Vaughn’s eyes slightly narrowed. If she rembered correctly, even Dean Master Moore was quite wary of him.

Though she hadn’t heard of Wade Lowell’s na before, from following Josiah Keaton, she overheard several of his conversations with other researchers, learning about his neighboring activities.

For instance, within just a month of joining the base, he earned the favor and regard of the gentleman, standing as an equal to Professor Stephen.

However, he had a peculiar personality, ignoring anyone who spoke to him, reaching an extre level of arrogance, not to ntion his fondness for cultivating deadly plants.

This wouldn’t pose a real issue since everyone has unique hobbies.

Until recently, a researcher, upset by Wade Lowell’s disregard, attempted to teach him a lesson.

But to everyone’s shock, when the researcher was found the next day, he had beco a pool of blood.

Since the incident, those residing next to Wade Lowell’s quarters have lived in fear daily, anxious that any misstep might lead to their demise.

Those at the base feared discussing Wade Lowell even in whispers, worried that he’d feed them to his carnivorous plants if he heard, avoiding ntioning his na openly.

Thus, Ann Vaughn never knew that the cool guy’s na was Wade Lowell.

Dean Master Moore assigning her as Wade Lowell’s assistant... clearly had an ulterior motive.

After contemplating, Ann Vaughn proactively stepped forward, asking, "Dr. Locke, is there anything you need my help with?"

No response.

The man’s icy gaze never left the report in his hands, not sparing Ann Vaughn a single glance.

Ann Vaughn waited without receiving any reply, so she quietly stopped disturbing him and took the initiative to organize the scattered papers on the table and tidied up the area a bit.

She clearly understood which items could be moved and which needed to remain in place for ease of access, making no errors.

But since she entered, she had been completely ignored as though she were invisible.

It wasn’t until ten at night that the ecstatic researchers gradually left, leaving only Wade Lowell at the lab bench.

He inadvertently looked up, spotting Ann Vaughn on a nearby soft stool, seemingly reading a book but actually using it as cover to nap secretly.

Her little head was nodding, any mont she might slouch forward.

Wade Lowell turned his pen in his hand, then tossed it aside, striding towards her.
