"Mommy, is Daddy okay?" Kane asked softly, leaning against her and staring at the burning building.
"He’ll be fine," Chantelle said softly. She believed Daniel could make it out of the fire.
"What about Rai? Will that bad guy hurt him?" Kane’s voice trembled as he rembered soone pulling Railer out of his wheelchair and holding a knife to his neck. His eyes started to tear up. Railer was still sick, and now he was in danger again.
"Everyone’s doing their best to rescue Rai. He’ll be okay."
Chantelle wanted to rescue Railer herself. But she was worried about Kane and Stephanie. In the end, she sent Calvin to save Railer and stayed behind to wait for updates.
Her people and Daniel’s team were attacking from both sides. Joseph didn’t have the chance to run. He also couldn’t fight Daniel anymore.
Still, Chantelle was curious. She thought so possibilities of how Joseph would handle Lone Wolf, especially since Lone Wolf saved Daniel at a critical mont.
Soon, Rowan landed the plane again. He carried the unconscious Camille out and left right away with his bodyguards.
Chantelle looked around. She felt a bit disappointed when she didn’t see that old couple.
"Mommy, why isn’t he out yet?" Stephanie asked, tugging on Chantelle’s sleeve. She had seen the firefighters carry out several badly hurt people and was getting worried.
Chantelle was also nervous. The fire was too intense.
"Steph, can you tell how you t that uncle on the plane?" Chantelle changed the topic to distract the kids.
Stephanie began to explain what happened. When Ashton brought her to the rooftop, Joseph’s n showed up.
A fight broke out between both sides. Ashton got hurt trying to protect her. While they were escaping, they ran into Rowan.
"That uncle said I looked like one of his relatives. He said he liked and wanted to be my friend. I told him yes," Stephanie said in an innocent tone.
Does Steph really look like soone from Rowan’s family? Chantelle found it strange.
"Soone’s coming out!" a voice shouted.
Chantelle quickly stood up and looked toward the building’s entrance.
The man who ca out was wearing a full protective suit. He was tall and stood straight. As he walked through the smoke, he looked like a hero. In his arms was the old man Chantelle had seen earlier on the 34th floor.
Chantelle grabbed her two kids and ran towards him. Once he handed the old man to the dical team, she threw her arms around him.
"Daniel, are you okay?"
At that mont, she realized sothing. Even after six years, even after trying to forget him, she still knew him right away just by the way he stood.
Daniel didn’t expect her to recognize him like that, not with the suit covering him from head to toe. He was moved. He hugged her back quickly.
"I’m fine. What about you? Are you hurt? Are the kids okay?"
Chantelle nodded. She couldn’t say much. She was crying too hard in his arms.
"Daddy, I’m so happy you made it out!" Kane hugged Daniel’s leg tightly, tears falling from his eyes.
Daniel gently patted Kane’s head. Then he looked at Stephanie, who stood silently nearby, unsure of what to say.
She didn’t seem scared of Daniel anymore, but she also didn’t try to go near him like Kane did.
"Steph, this is your Daddy," Chantelle said softly, touching Stephanie’s cheek. She carefully introduced Daniel to her.
Chantelle knew Stephanie wasn’t like her and Kane. Stephanie hadn’t experienced many things with Daniel, so she still believed he was the sa scumbag dad Chantelle once described to her.
Even though Chantelle didn’t talk about Daniel in front of the kids, they were smart. They could figure things out on their own.
That’s why Stephanie might need more ti before she’s ready to approach Daniel on her own.
"Steph just doesn’t know you yet," Chantelle said awkwardly when she saw Stephanie glance at Daniel with a cold look and she stayed silent.
Daniel gave a small nod, clearly disappointed. "It’s okay. I’ll do my best to win her heart."
"Take off the suit first," Chantelle said gently as she reached out and removed Daniel’s gas mask and protective gear.
While Chantelle was helping Daniel take off his protective suit, she noticed Ashton coming up behind him. He was also helping the old man’s wife from the 34th floor.
"That old lady..." Chantelle mumbled.
"She had a bad head injury," Ashton explained. "We all thought she was dead. But the old man refused to leave without her. He insisted on carrying her down. If he hadn’t, she might not have made it."
Chantelle was stunned. When she checked the old lady earlier, she was sure there was no sign of life. But maybe the injury was so bad that it just looked like she had stopped breathing.
If she had forced the old man to leave without his wife, the woman could’ve died for real.
She turned to Daniel. "How did you find them?"
"It was Lone Wolf," Daniel said. "He saved , which ant he betrayed Joseph. So Joseph’s n went after him. We followed them and saw him rescue the old couple. But once he saw us, he sprinted away."
Daniel held Kane with one hand and Chantelle with the other. Chantelle carried Stephanie in her arms as they walked toward the Maybach parked outside.
Chantelle frowned slightly. Lone Wolf was skilled. Escaping Joseph’s n shouldn’t have been hard for him. He wouldn’t normally run to the 34th floor where the fire was most intense.
And knowing his personality, it didn’t seem like sothing he’d do; risking his life to save strangers.
Why would he be there? Why save that old couple? Unless... they weren’t just an ordinary couple.
Chantelle’s mind was occupied until soone suddenly squeezed her hand. She quickly ca back to her senses and glanced at Daniel. He stared at her with displeased and aggrieved eyes.
"Let’s get in the car," she said with a soft smile.
Daniel’s expression quickly brightened.
Once inside the car, Chantelle purposely placed Stephanie between her and Daniel.
Stephanie gave Chantelle a helpless look, but Chantelle just coughed softly and pretended not to notice it.
Kane sat alone in the front seat. He let out a helpless sigh. Once again, his Mommy had ignored him.
"Steph, let wipe your face. Tell if you’re hurt," Daniel said gently. He knew what Chantelle was trying to do, so he quickly pulled out a wet tissue and reached toward Stephanie.
