Fu Shinian chuckled upon hearing this:
"Where’s the old lady? Which kind do you hope I am?"
The old lady looked at him silently for a mont without speaking, and Fu Shinian had no intention of initiating conversation either. Finally, it was the old lady who huffed lightly:
"I hope you can let Su Mu make her own choices peacefully and steadily, but you were raised by since you were little, and I’ve seen that you are not the type to stay put. In the past few days, you’ve done nothing and allowed the Wen Family to publicly announce their engagent with Susu. You must have prepared so moves in advance, right?"
Fu Shinian smiled faintly:
"You truly are the old lady, never can anything escape your discerning eyes."
"What are you planning to do?"
"I’m not planning anything, but soone will."
The old lady frowned at him, seemingly not entirely reassured, but even if she was concerned, there wasn’t much she could do about it. Her grandson was a person with his own mind. Although sotis he might go about things in an unconventional way, he wouldn’t do anything too outrageous. It was just that this involved Susu, and she couldn’t help but be more concerned. She advised:
"Whether it’s you or soone else doing it on your behalf, I only have one request; you must not let Susu be embarrassed or hurt."
Fu Shinian looked at the old lady upon hearing this and smiled slightly:
"Don’t worry, I wouldn’t bear to let her get hurt or feel embarrassed, would I?"
"You..." The old lady looked at him with disappointed affection: "If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place?"
Jiang Bei found out about Su Mu and Wen Han’s engagent news a bit late and only ca to know about it today. After learning of it, he ca to see Su Mu, standing silently and expressionless in front of her. Su Mu could sowhat understand Jiang Bei’s aning, but she felt rather helpless:
"Why are you looking at like this?"
"What do you think?" Jiang Bei let out a sigh: "If my mother hadn’t told about Wen Han’s engagent, I wouldn’t even know about it. You didn’t learn from any of my many good traits but have now picked up the habit of not telling things when they happen?"
Qiqi was playing gas not far away. Su Mu’s gaze shifted from her and she smiled lightly: "I really didn’t an to keep it from you on purpose."
Su Mu wasn’t lying; she indeed never thought to keep the engagent news from Jiang Bei. After all, it was sothing Zhou Yaxian had announced to everyone, and it couldn’t be kept secret. However, Su Mu had been too busy and tired during that ti, and with Jiang Bei not in good condition and resting at ho, she hadn’t taken the initiative to bring it up.
She had assud that Jiang’s mother would tell him, but to her surprise, his mother also waited until yesterday because she was worried about him. Jiang Bei had already complained to Su Mu over the phone for a long ti yesterday. Today, upon eting her, he was quite unhappy, and Su Mu could only admit her fault.
Jiang Bei didn’t know about the act that was going on between Wen Han and Su Mu so he assud they were really going to go through with the marriage. Concerning this, Jiang Bei was very uneasy:
"Have you really thought this through? Though an engagent isn’t a marriage, it’s pretty much the sa. Once the engagent banquet tomorrow is over, everyone who has seen you here will consider you part of the Wen Family. Even if you and Wen Han part ways in the future, people will still gossip. You and the Wen Family will beco inextricably linked."
Su Mu smiled faintly:
"If I had a choice, I wouldn’t want it this way."
"What do you an?"
Since Jiang Bei already knew, Su Mu explained everything that had happened these days to him. The more Jiang Bei listened, the more he frowned. After Su Mu finished, he imdiately said:
"Have you both lost your minds? You can even lie about an engagent?"
Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei helplessly, and Jiang Bei seed a bit angry:
"It’s fine for you; after all, you are an outsider to the Wen Family, and you want to help out with what happened to my aunt. But how could Wen Han agree to this? Doesn’t he understand you? He knows you would be concerned about him just having lost his father and his mother going through what she did. Rembering that you two are still boyfriend and girlfriend, he knew you wouldn’t refuse, so is he purposely using my aunt’s situation to make you marry him?"
Su Mu was stunned for a mont. She had never thought of it that way:
"Wen Han wouldn’t do that."
"He used to be such a rational person, always looking for solutions rather than avoiding or covering up issues. But what about now? He knows he’s sick and needs treatnt, yet he still uses you as a redy. This isn’t the Wen Han I know. If he has no ulterior motive, then the loss of his father has hit him so hard that he’s completely lost his senses."
Su Mu fell silent. Although it seed incredible, Jiang Bei’s words weren’t without reason. Jiang Bei looked at Su Mu:
"If you listen to , call Wen Han now and call off this engagent."
"Now?"
"Otherwise? Do you want to wait until the engagent banquet is over? By then, it will be too late." Jiang Bei paused for a few seconds: "I am a doctor. I haven’t been without patients with post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. Indeed, as the previous doctor told you, they tend to avoid and beco numb, but I’ve never seen any patient use avoidance in the way my aunt does. Patients will often avoid situations and triggers related to the trauma, refuse to participate in similar activities, and stay away from places or people related to the trauma. According to what you’ve said, my aunt has changed drastically since being hospitalized. However, no matter how she changes, she wouldn’t completely forget the news of my uncle’s death and discuss engagent details with you at their place as if nothing happened unless she doesn’t have depression but instead has amnesia."
Jiang Bei’s words gave Su Mu a chilling feeling. If everything he said was true, then Zhou Yaxian was never sick, or not as seriously as Su Mu had thought, and Wen Han knew it and was just playing along.
Seeing Su Mu’s dilemma, Jiang Bei cut to the chase:
"If you are determined to continue testing the waters with Wen Han, you can proceed with the engagent. But even I can see your exhaustion; why put yourself through this? Even if my aunt is really sick, can you keep up the act for the rest of your life?"
Perhaps what Jiang Bei told Su Mu was too unbelievable for her, and she didn’t know what to do for a while. Qiqi, who was not far away, had stopped playing with her toys. Although she didn’t quite understand the conversation between the two, she could sense that the atmosphere was off and watched them quietly.
Whether Zhou Yaxian’s illness was true or not, Jiang Bei was against it. But Su Mu had her considerations. Just as Jiang Bei was about to say sothing else, Su Mu’s phone rang. It was Zhou Yaxian.
