Engagent party, Su Mu didn’t initially want Qiqi to attend since it was all pretend, and having Qiqi know about it would an he’d have to explain to her, and she might not understand. However, as the engagent approached, Zhou Yaxian kept bringing it up whenever she saw Su Mu. After Su Mu dodged the topic a few tis, Zhou Yaxian seed to sense sothing and asked Su Mu directly:
"Is it Fu Shinian who doesn’t agree to let Qiqi co? If you find it difficult, I can talk to Fu Shinian. After all, once you’re married, Qiqi will also be part of the Wen Family. Fu Shinian is a reasonable man; he won’t disagree."
Because Su Mu genuinely worried that Zhou Yaxian would actually go to Fu Shinian, and Fu Shinian wasn’t soone who hid his feelings well—if he said sothing hurtful to Zhou Yaxian or disclosed that the engagent was fake, it could lead to an undesirable outco for everyone.
Having no choice, Su Mu had to agree to let Qiqi attend. Thus, the day before the engagent, Su Mu went back to Bishui Yuntian to pick up Qiqi. Fu Shinian was at ho and when he saw Su Mu appear, he slightly curved the corners of his lips:
"Arrived?"
Not sure if it was just his illusion, but Su Mu felt there was a deeper aning behind Fu Shinian’s smile.
The grandmother, hearing Su Mu’s voice, ca out of her room and seeing Su Mu, she smiled faintly: "Susu ca?"
"Grandma." Su Mu walked over to support the grandmother on the couch, then sat next to her. The grandmother carefully looked at Su Mu’s face and chuckled sowhat helplessly, "I heard you are getting engaged to the Wen Family."
The grandmother hadn’t known about Su Mu’s engagent as neither Su Mu nor Fu Shinian would have ntioned it, so this news was unexpected for the grandmother, though not shocking. When she nodded in acknowledgnt, she always felt sowhat awkward—maybe because she had once been the grandmother’s granddaughter-in-law.
"Yes, tomorrow."
The grandmother patted Su Mu’s hand:
"Good, I’m happy to see you finding your happiness. As long as you are doing well, who you are with is not the most important thing. I have t Wen Han a few tis; he is attentive and caring, and with him, you will at least not be wronged, unlike Shinian, who seems always to upset you."
Su Mu smiled, unsure of how to respond.
Qiqi sat on Fu Shinian’s lap, the two naively playing the rock-paper-scissors ga. Hearing the grandmother’s words, Qiqi turned around, confused:
"Mu, are you getting married?"
Su Mu looked at Qiqi: "Not getting married, just getting engaged."
"What does engagent an?"
Fu Shinian replied with a slight smile, "It ans settling an engagent. It’s like getting married but not quite yet."
Qiqi seed disappointed upon hearing this, her gaze toward Fu Shinian sowhat sympathetic. Seeing this, Fu Shinian felt a profound satisfaction—regardless of whether Su Mu was cold-hearted, his daughter undoubtedly cared about him deeply.
Perhaps because of the last ti when Qiqi faked illness, the relationship between Su Mu and Fu Shinian had eased a lot. Recently, Qiqi had felt that it was only a matter of ti before they got back together. But before she could see any new developnts between her parents, she heard about Su Mu’s engagent with Wen Han. It was impossible for her not to feel sad.
She too had gone through the process from hope to disappointnt, and even as a child, she felt quite dejected.
Su Mu didn’t want to stay longer than necessary, and Fu Shinian, sensing her intent, spoke:
"Tomorrow is your engagent banquet, and I suppose you have many things to take care of. I need to go to the company later, so I won’t keep you. You should head back early."
After speaking, he patted Qiqi’s small face and smiled slightly: "Daddy will pick you up tomorrow."
The little one responded weakly, but Fu Shinian whispered sothing to her, instantly revitalizing her. She looked at Fu Shinian with sparkling eyes: "Really?"
"Daddy may lie to others, but I will never lie to you."
"Ok."
Revitalized, Qiqi jumped down from Fu Shinian’s lap and went over to take Su Mu’s hand: "Mu, let’s go back."
Though Su Mu was happy that Qiqi stopped dwelling on the engagent, she was more curious about what Fu Shinian said to Qiqi, and couldn’t help but ask:
"What did you say to Qiqi?"
Fu Shinian raised his eyebrows faintly:
"I didn’t say much."
Qiqi smiled and winked at Fu Shinian: "Mu, don’t ask anymore, it’s a secret between and daddy, and we’re not going to tell anyone."
The grandmother also smiled hearing this:
"Although Qiqi didn’t have her father around since childhood, their bond is as thick as blood, as if they were never apart."
Fu Shinian stood up from the couch, looking at Su Mu: "I’ll walk you out."
Su Mu had been tensed up since seeing Fu Shinian, which was nothing like she had anticipated. As if reading her thoughts, Fu Shinian turned to her after placing Qiqi in the car seat and t her gaze:
"If I’m not mistaken, the expression on your face right now is one of disappointnt?"
"What am I disappointed about?"
Fu Shinian smiled faintly: "Disappointed that I didn’t obsess over your engagent, didn’t stop you from getting engaged, and even actively let Qiqi go with you. Aren’t you disappointed?"
Su Mu huffed:
"That’s laughable. Why should I be disappointed? Keeping you far from my life and not disturbing has always been my wish. Now that you’ve finally got it, I’m too happy."
"That’s good." Fu Shinian smiled slightly: "I might not appear at the venue tomorrow. After all, I’m not magnanimous enough to watch a woman who was once in my bed belong to another man. However, I’m not petty. Let wish you ahead of ti, have a happy engagent."
Su Mu also smiled: "Thank you."
"You’re welco."
After saying this, Fu Shinian turned his attention back to Qiqi, kissed her on the cheek: "See you tomorrow, little princess."
It was only after Su Mu’s car disappeared from sight that Fu Shinian’s smile faded, replaced by a smirk. He turned and went back inside, only to find the grandmother still sitting, clearly having sothing on her mind. Fu Shinian smiled and took his seat again:
"Grandma, is there sothing you wish to say?"
"Weren’t you always wanting Susu to return? You were quite persistent in bothering Su Mu so ti ago, but what’s going on now? She’s about to get engaged to Wen Han, and you seem indifferent? I just can’t understand you anymore," the grandmother sighed:
"Are you letting go, or do you have other plans?"
