Su Mu didn’t expect the people in the hospital room to be related to her. She was sowhat taken aback for a mont, but noticing the change in Zhou Yaxian’s expression for the worse, Su Mu had no choice but to go over and sit beside her, then absently help pick out the so-called engagent style.
She never thought that one day she would get engaged to Wen Han, and so she had never thought about what kind of setting her engagent would be in. But for Zhou Yaxian’s sake, she still cooperatively selected a few, and in the end, she left the decision to Zhou Yaxian, saying that she still had a lot to tend to at her studio.
Zhou Yaxian nodded upon hearing this:
"Alright, your work is also important. I’ll take care of the engagent matters then. I think our taste is quite similar, and you’ll like it too."
Su Mu smiled and got up, and Wen Han ca over to hold her hand:
"Let’s go for a walk."
Seeing this, Zhou Yaxian’s smile widened: "Go on, don’t waste your ti here."
It was now the afternoon, and it was sowhat inappropriate to walk outside due to the temperature. Also worried that Zhou Yaxian might fall ill at any ti, Su Mu and Wen Han didn’t go far but just sat on a bench in the corridor. Wen Han looked at Su Mu, who seed exhausted:
"Is Qiqi feeling better?"
Su Mu replied with a light smile: "Much better, you don’t have to worry about her. Kids fall ill easily, but they recover just as quickly."
"That’s good."
After a simple conversation, they fell into silence again until Wen Han spoke up: "Did the thing my mom did just now upset you?"
"No." Su Mu glanced at Wen Han: "Now, you don’t need to worry about my feelings. The important thing is to get Auntie Lin better. Whatever she wants to do, she should do it. You also shouldn’t say anything to upset her. Perhaps before long, she’ll co around on her own."
"If I didn’t like you, I wouldn’t care about your feelings. But who makes like you? It seems that even if I dislike the situation, this is the only outco we can have." Wen Han held Su Mu’s hand: "I’m sorry you’ve had to suffer."
Su Mu smiled faintly:
"Aren’t you going to ask what happened with Fu Shinian last night?"
Wen Han looked at Su Mu for a few seconds, then withdrew his hand from hers:
"I know you wouldn’t do anything to wrong , not even if you wanted to reconcile, not before we formally break up."
"When did you start thinking I’d go back to being with Fu Shinian?"
Wen Han gave a faint smile:
"I never felt that way. I just think you won’t continue with ."
Su Mu stayed at Bishui Yuntian for 3 consecutive days, accompanying Qiqi every night. Qiqi, without fail, insisted that Fu Shinian sleep with them. Su Mu naturally wanted to refuse, but for so reason, Qiqi’s fever, while normal during the day, would co back each night. Even the doctor, Qiao Yu, couldn’t find a reason, stating there was no viral infection, nor any other symptoms besides fever.
So, out of concern for Qiqi, Su Mu compromised and slept in the sa bed with both the big and the small. Fortunately, Fu Shinian’s behavior remained as it had been the past two days, and he did nothing to make Su Mu feel uncomfortable. On the afternoon of the fourth day, Su Mu returned from the hospital to Bishui Yuntian and asked Shiyue, learning that Qiqi had not yet woken up and Fu Shinian was working in the study, so she went back to her own room alone.
However, Su Mu never expected that Qiqi was not sleeping in the bed, and there was no one else in the room. Just as she was about to go ask Fu Shinian, she heard noises from the bathroom. She walked over to knock on the door, initially worried it might be Fu Shinian, but a series of clattering sounds followed by a cry of pain from Qiqi made Su Mu forget all her previous concerns, and she pushed the door open.
But, the bathroom door was locked from the inside.
Su Mu began knocking: "Qiqi, what’s wrong?"
Qiqi didn’t respond, and Su Mu’s heart began to race: "Qiqi, tell Mommy what’s wrong, don’t scare ."
In response to Su Mu was still silence. She didn’t panic and was about to go find soone for help when she turned and saw Fu Shinian approaching swiftly, likely having heard the noises and co from the study. Seeing no sign of Qiqi, just Su Mu’s anxious expression, Fu Shinian’s brow furrowed:
"What’s wrong?"
"Qiqi is inside, I don’t know what happened to her, and the door is locked from the inside."
Due to the situation involving Qiqi, Fu Shinian didn’t have ti to go downstairs to ask Auntie Lin for the keys, and instead kicked the bathroom door open. But even Fu Shinian did not expect to witness the scene before him: Qiqi was wrapped in a bath towel, sitting in the bathtub filled with water, yet the entire bathroom was void of any steam.
The only explanation was that Qiqi was taking a cold bath.
Su Mu hadn’t realized this yet; she was just worried that Qiqi had so accident inside, so the mont the door opened, she rushed over and hugged Qiqi, checking her body carefully:
"Qiqi, how are you? Did you hurt anywhere?"
Qiqi shook her head; her whole body trembling. It was then that the calm Su Mu noticed sothing was off. At this ti, Qiqi should have been sleeping. Even if she got up to use the bathroom, it would not result in the scene before them. Su Mu looked at Qiqi with confusion, gradually realizing sothing from the fearful look in her eyes.
The water in the bathtub was only halfway full; Su Mu reached out to touch it, and sure enough... cold.
Why did Qiqi have a fever every night? Why couldn’t her illness get better? Why did Qiao Yu also not understand what was happening? It seed as if all the explanations ca together in this mont. Su Mu didn’t know how to describe what she was feeling; she must have been furious, hence why she slapped Qiqi, which Qiqi did not see coming and tumbled to the ground.
Fu Shinian’s brow furrowed as he quickly stepped forward to pick Qiqi up in his arms, turning to look at Su Mu:
"Before you hit the child, have you considered why she might do this?"
Without waiting for a response, he carried Qiqi out and wrapped her up tightly in a blanket.
Qiqi seed to have been frightened by Su Mu earlier, and though she had been slapped, she didn’t cry. Now being treated so gently by Fu Shinian, all her grievances and emotions seed to surface in an instant. Tears fell down her cheeks like priceless pearls, a sight that was more agonizing to Fu Shinian than anything else.
"Fu Shinian, I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t think of any other way..."
Fu Shinian held Qiqi close, gently comforting her:
"Don’t cry, Qiqi; I know what you’re thinking, I understand, I really do..."
