Fu Shinian had his reasons for doing so, which was understandable, but Shi Lihua couldn’t fathom why Yu Qingzhou would cooperate so fully with Fu Shinian. She looked incredulously at the man she knew so well:
"Why would you do this?"
"Why?" Yu Qingzhou laughed lightly as if he had heard a funny joke, "I believe no one understands better than you why I did this. My whole life was ruined by your hands, and now you question why I betray you? If it were not for being unworthy, what I would have done is not just this— I thought of killing you, to vent the bitterness and resentnt I’ve harbored over the years."
"Resentnt? What do you have to resent? Your father died young, your mother didn’t want you. If it weren’t for , you would have died in so corner long ago, and now you bla ? Do you really think I am a philanthropist? Would I have cared for you if it weren’t for your father?"
"Did you ever ask if I wanted to be taken care of by you? I know, the kindness of raising a child is greater than heaven, to say this might cause the heavens to strike with lightning, but perhaps no one knows that I would rather be struck dead than to spend another second by your side."
"You..." Shi Lihua never knew, the child she raised could harbor such deep hatred towards her.
"From the ti I can rember, my parents constantly fought because of you. My father had you in his heart, which is excusable, but why should my mother pay the price? I originally hated you, but later, seeing how you took care of my father, sacrificing your own rest for his sake, I thought perhaps it was all just fate playing tricks, and you were just as pitiful. After my father passed away, I even wanted to properly honor you as my own mother, but since I beca an adult, what have you done to ? Should I list them one by one for everyone to see, to determine whether it is I who am inhumane, or you who have been a devil from the start?"
Shi Lihua looked at him, unable to speak, as Yu Qingzhou chuckled:
"I would have preferred to have died ten years ago, rather than suffering through the tornt you’ve inflicted on these past years."
No one knew precisely what happened behind Shi Lihua’s apparent diligent care for Yu Qingzhou; initially, Yu Qingzhou truly regarded Shi Lihua as his biological mother, but everything changed after Yu Zhiyuan died. While still in the country, her gaze was sowhat unfathomable and frightening, but once abroad, she dropped all pretense.
Yu Qingzhou would never forget that night when, after dinner with Shi Lihua, he felt sothing was wrong with his body. At that ti, he had just co of age and was naive about many things, so when he noticed sothing was wrong, he didn’t understand what Shi Lihua wanted to do to him, until his body grew increasingly agonized, and out of desperation, he took a cold shower— that was when Shi Lihua burst in, completely undressed.
In the days that followed, to Shi Lihua, Yu Qingzhou was simply a replica of Yu Zhiyuan. She did things to Yu Qingzhou that she wanted to do to Yu Zhiyuan but couldn’t manage in ti. She took all his docunts, took many photos of him he couldn’t bear to face himself, and even used drugs to control him for a period. Her goal was simple, to keep him by her side.
In the dayti, everyone knew Yu Qingzhou was Shi Lihua’s child, but at night, Shi Lihua no longer played the role of a mother. She treated Yu Qingzhou as a man.
Shi Lihua smirked self-deprecatingly, looking at Yu Qingzhou with a complex gaze:
"So, you wanted to leave a long ti ago?"
"Yes, from that night you stopped treating as your son, I’ve wanted to leave you."
"So, you intentionally mismanaged the company? You deliberately squandered that fortune?"
"Yes, only by doing so would you go out to seek business opportunities and new paths, and stop spending so much ti on ," Yu Qingzhou looked at her with an extrely cold gaze: "From the mont I t you till now, I’ve never had a friend by my side, not because I’m bad, but because I dare not. I dare not get too close to anyone, I’m afraid they’ll find out those filthy details about , I’m afraid they’ll look down on ."
Yu Qingzhou’s words made Shi Lihua suddenly fall to the ground like a deflated balloon, feeling as if she had been drained of all strength. She stared blankly at a spot for a long ti then laughed:
"No matter what, I never hard you. I gave you everything I could, even the best I could offer, without expecting anything in return. All I wanted was for you to stay by my side, but you felt disgusted? What right do you have to feel disgusted? I... I just missed him too much, you look so much like him. I’ve never gotten anything I wanted in this lifeti, but I don’t care about anything else, I just wanted him, but in the end, he left too..."
Shi Lihua’s complaints were sothing Yu Qingzhou had heard countless tis over the years; now, hearing them again, he felt nothing but numbness. He shifted his gaze from Shi Lihua to Fu Shinian:
"I originally ca back to help you rescue Mrs. Fu, but it seems there’s nothing left for to do now. I want to leave first, to go for a walk, to see so things."
Fu Shinian had known since he first learned about Yu Qingzhou what he had suffered at the hands of Shi Lihua. He had thought Yu Qingzhou would have a dark and paranoid personality, but didn’t expect that after so much, he could still maintain his optimism, which made him sowhat admire him.
Turning to him with a slight smile:
"Okay, since you’re back, why not stay a little longer? You can call if there’s any trouble."
Yu Qingzhou smiled faintly:
"I shouldn’t, it’s better if we don’t have too much contact."
Even though the relationship between Fu Shinian and Shi Lihua was strained, after all, Yu Qingzhou was still her flesh and blood. Despite ti having passed, he remained an ordinary person, and he wanted nothing more to do with anything related to Shi Lihua.
His thoughts were sothing Fu Shinian could understand, but not necessarily as he wished:
"What about Yueyue? Aren’t you going to contact her?"
At the ntion of Su Shiyue, Yu Qingzhou’s expression softened slightly, but in the end, he still shook his head: "You’ve been taking good care of her, she probably doesn’t want to know about that unbearable past. If my presence would upset her, it’s better if I don’t appear."
Having said this, Yu Qingzhou turned and left, not looking back at Shi Lihua again, no matter how she cried out in agony behind him. What did it matter? He was now free, and Shi Lihua could no longer act as freely as before.
