Qiao Yu returned to the office after the surgery and unexpectedly saw Fu Shinian’s figure, but as soon as he realized why he was there, he didn’t find it strange. Undoing the buttons of his white coat, he walked over and sat down in the chair in front of his desk and said,

"Don’t you need to go to the company?"

Fu Shinian did not lift his head, "Just ca out of the company."

"Leaving the company at this hour?" Qiao Yu hadn’t thought much of it at first, but upon seeing that his clothes were exactly the sa as yesterday’s, he suddenly realized, "You an, you’ve been at the company the entire ti without going back?"

Fu Shinian didn’t speak, but undoubtedly he was tacitly confirming this.

Qiao Yu used to think that this kind of behavior was nothing out of the ordinary for Fu Shinian, as long as he felt comfortable with it, it was fine by him. But now, Qiao Yu felt that Fu Shinian had a tendency towards a kind of masochism. After all, Fu Shinian was both the torturer and the one being tortured.

Fu Shinian remained silent, and Qiao Yu also wanted to pretend not to know his intentions, but he just sat there, showing no signs of leaving. Qiao Yu, however, was worried that his body might not be able to take it:

"You didn’t rest the night before yesterday, and the sa yesterday, didn’t you? What, do you want to pay back everything you’ve imposed on Su Mu in this way?"

"I didn’t an that." Fu Shinian changed his position, leaned back in the chair, closed his eyes, his face revealing an undeniable exhaustion.

Upon seeing this, Qiao Yu sighed,

"You don’t need to worry too much. I asked Jiang Bei, he said Su Mu woke up last evening. Although she can’t eat much, she indeed ate sothing. Right now, she is just recuperating, and she will slowly get better."

Fu Shinian opened his eyes:

"Where is she now?"

"Are you going to look for her?"

Fu Shinian shook his head, "No, just asking."

"Jiang Bei didn’t say, and she wouldn’t tell either. I’m not on the sa side as her, you should understand."

"Hmm."

A few seconds later, Fu Shinian got up from his seat. Qiao Yu watched him, "Are you leaving just like that?"

"What else?" Fu Shinian looked at him, "Are you inviting for a al?"

Qiao Yu glanced at the ti, a little past eleven, having a al wasn’t out of the question. He nodded, "Sure, I’ll call Nanfeng out later."

Fu Shinian, however, waved his hand,

"You guys gather, I’m going ho."

"Su Mu isn’t at ho, what are you going back for?"

Fu Shinian’s steps faltered slightly, but after a few seconds, he was back to normal, "To sleep."

——

After Fu Shinian returned to Bishui Yuntian, Auntie Lin was constantly nervous. After all, the phone call from yesterday was enough to make her anxious. The fact that Fu Shinian didn’t lash out wasn’t within her expectations, and his current calm only made Auntie Lin fear that he was brewing a major storm.

But it seed Auntie Lin had guessed wrong again, because aside from seeming a bit down, Fu Shinian was as normal as ever, even calr than usual.

Fu Shinian’s purpose in coming back was to sleep, and he was indeed tired to the extre, not just physically but also ntally. He finally experienced what true exhaustion of both body and mind felt like. However, the mont he entered the master bedroom, he felt as if sothing had seized his throat, making his breathing difficult.

Especially the sight of that large bed, each ti his gaze fell upon it, he thought of Su Mu’s breathless state lying on it.

He’d always known that Su Mu was a stubborn person, but he hadn’t expected her stubbornness to manifest so fiercely.

Sitting in the spot Su Mu had once occupied, Fu Shinian slowly closed his eyes, feeling what she must have felt.

Half an hour later, Fu Shinian got up from the bed, not only without having fallen asleep, but now he didn’t feel the slightest bit tired.

In the walk-in closet, he dragged two suitcases from a corner, neatly arranged all the clothes Su Mu liked to wear, folded them, and placed them inside, followed by lingerie, shoes, scarves, and even gloves. As he did so, he suddenly felt a sense of desolation, as if Su Mu would never return.

But Qiao Yu was right, it was indeed ti for the two of them to cool off.

Qiao Yu was genuinely surprised at Fu Shinian’s return, especially upon seeing the two large suitcases by his side, which made him even more uneasy:

"What are you doing, running away from ho?"

Fu Shinian couldn’t be bothered with his joke and simply said:

"These are things Su Mu usually needs, give them to Jiang Bei, and have her take them to Su Mu."

Qiao Yu’s mouth fell open, clearly not expecting Fu Shinian to make such a move. He rose from his office chair and stood in front of Fu Shinian, "Did Auntie Lin pack these?"

Fu Shinian looked at him, silent for a few seconds:

"Yes."

Qiao Yu shook his head slightly as he looked at Fu Shinian:

"No, if Auntie Lin had packed them, she wouldn’t have handed them over to you to bring here. Besides, without your instructions, Auntie Lin wouldn’t dare do so. She’s already walking on eggshells having let Su Mu leave, so how could she challenge your limits? Tell , did you pack these yourself?"

"If you don’t speak, nobody will think you’re a mute."

Qiao Yu was at a loss for words, "You ca back just for this? What do you an by that? Just now, I thought you wanted Su Mu to co back, but then you suddenly packed these suitcases for Jiang Bei to take to Su Mu. Not to ntion whether Jiang Bei will pass them on, I’m curious, what were you really thinking?"

Fu Shinian rubbed his temples wearily, then sat down in a nearby chair:

"Wasn’t it you who told that Su Mu and I need to cool down now?"

Qiao Yu sighed and sat down next to Fu Shinian:

"Look at you, ssing things up with Su Mu like this, why go to such lengths? Su Mu is sick, and you’re distressed too. From what I see, you actually fell for Su Mu a long ti ago, just without realizing it. Now that she’s gone, you finally feel remorseful and empty inside."

Fu Shinian was silent for a few seconds, then looked at Qiao Yu:

"Aren’t you a surgeon? Since when did you start studying psychology?"

"Who needs psychology for this?" Qiao Yu said dismissively, "Your face is practically screaming, ’I can’t bear to let go of Su Mu.’"

Fu Shinian: "..."

Fu Shinian didn’t want to go ho, but he also didn’t want to stay and argue with Qiao Yu about useless things, especially since they were particularly uncomfortable to hear. So, he decided to head back to the company. Qiao Yu wasn’t busy at the mont and stood up to accompany him, also planning to deliver the two suitcases Fu Shinian had entrusted to him to Jiang Bei.

But soon after they left the office, they heard the nurses from the sa departnt discussing an ergency room incident:

"Did you hear? The ER just admitted a bizarre couple. They were brought in in a very strange position."

"I didn’t just hear about it, I saw them when I went to the ER to deliver so materials."

"Really? Was it like I described? How did sothing like that happen?"

"I don’t know, I only glanced briefly. It was Doctor Jiang of the ergency departnt who took over. But the patient looked familiar; I think they ca to see Doctor Qiao before, they’re his friend."
