"A WAR?!"

Every beastman in the throne room reacted at the sa ti. Though they weren’t scared of anyone except their Beast King, they couldn’t help but wonder which bold kingdom dared to wage war against them.

On top of that, the Beast King had been applying an isolationist thod to rule the kingdom. The Beast Kingdom had always been self-sufficient from the mont it was founded, so they had never actually crossed paths with other kingdoms except for a few rchants who ca and went.

So, who dared to wage war against them?

"Could it be that the rchant who got killed last night was actually an envoy or so sort? Because the way he spoke didn’t show the modesty of a rchant. He was more like a... nobleman from a human kingdom," Jeanne, the flying squirrel general, comnted as she was the first one to talk to the ’rchant’ from yesterday.

"But what is a nobleman doing trying to disguise himself as a rchant to enter our kingdom? We’re not even interested in them!"

"Yeah! Maybe they wanted to use that nobleman as bait and kill him last night as bait, so they have a reason to wage war against us!"

Hearing all the theories spreading in the throne room, Grishaw took a deep breath and shouted, "Silence!"

Once the noise slowly dissipated, Grishaw quickly took control of the situation.

"I’ll co and talk to the representative from the enemy. I want to know the root of everything before we decide upon our next move. Rember, we don’t have our Beast King or our nation’s advisor. We have to conduct ourselves properly before the king returns!"

Grishaw’s reminder was enough to dampen the drum of war beating inside the throne room. He was right—since the Beast King wasn’t here, doing anything rash might cause them to get punished or even worse... kicked out of the Beast Kingdom.

"Garou, Old Pell, Jeanne, follow to the gate. We’re going to talk to them," Grishaw commanded. "And the rest should prepare each of their subordinates for war. But make sure they won’t do anything rash or attack the enemy until I give my command. We absolutely cannot screw this up, or all of us might get punished by our king, understood?"

With Grishaw’s instruction, each of the generals rushed out of the throne room to prepare their battalion to fight in case they really went to war.

anwhile, Grishaw, Pell, Garou, and Jeanne went to the main gate of the kingdom, where they could see about three hundred human soldiers, fully armored, holding weapons they called bayonets.

There were two most striking figures though. One was wearing shining white armor that glead under the sun, mounted on his horse at the back of the formation, and the other was wearing a heavy set of armor that would’ve made it difficult for him to move around, but he didn’t seem to be bothered by it.

Grishaw assud the second one should be the commander or general of these human soldiers, because he was positioned right at the front, becoming the one who waged war against the Beast Kingdom.

Grishaw didn’t want to alert the enemy. If possible, he preferred to have a proper discussion over flat-out bloodshed.

Because let’s face it, these three hundred human soldiers wouldn’t put a dent in the fortress. Even with their bayonets and armor, the beastn naturally had the field advantage since the area was surrounded by tall trees.

Grishaw walked out of the gate, followed by General Pell, Jeanne, and Garou behind him.

"My na is Grishaw. I am the man in charge of defending the Beast Kingdom," Grishaw introduced himself modestly. "I’ve heard that we received an invitation of war from your kingdom. But may I know the reason? Besides, we have no idea from which kingdom these soldiers co from."

The human general raised his bayonet towards Grishaw, but the latter didn’t look scared at all.

The human general had participated in many wars in the past and knew the enemy in front of him wasn’t soone he could easily take down.

"We are from Barion Kingdom," the general replied rather calmly, but still with the aura of a commander. "You’ve killed our envoy who wanted to see whether the Beast Kingdom would be a good trade partner. But seeing how you killed him after tricking him to rest inside your kingdom for the night, we’ve decided it is ti to destroy this kingdom for the sake of Barion Kingdom’s sovereignty!"

Grishaw knew sothing was off about this, because based on the report, the one who attacked the envoy and Sir Vestor shouldn’t be a beastman from the kingdom. Soone that strong would’ve entered the beast court at this point.

"There is a misunderstanding here, good sir," Grishaw said. "We treated your envoy with the utmost respect even when we thought he was just a rchant. But there has been an attacker that—"

BANG!

"Grishaw!"

The sound of a gunshot rang through the air. Soone had just shot straight at the talking eagle general.

But before the bullet could hit, General Pell quickly covered Grishaw’s body with his arms, and the bullet only made a small dent in the elephant general’s arm before it fell flat to the ground.

Everyone was shocked. Even the human general was shocked by the sudden attack. He turned towards the source of the voice and saw Crown Prince Ludwig riding to the front while holding his firearm.

"What are you doing trying to argue with those beastn? They are full of deceit, and it won’t take long before they kill us all!"

He pulled the reins of his horse and raised the ceremonial sword in his left hand.

"SOLDIERS! ATTACK!"

"RAAAARGGHHH!!!"

The general felt helpless when the soldiers rushed towards the four beastman generals at the front.

Jeanne and Grishaw quickly flew away at high speed before they could get hit by any bullets, while Garou also retreated, leaving only General Pell, using his trusty giant mace, facing two hundred soldiers who rushed towards him with their bayonets and short swords on their waists for close-range combat.
