Chapter 39: Compatibility

“Do you know any other information about him?”

Vilnia Randell continued to ask.

“The more the better.”

l looked at Vilnia Randell's serious expression, didn't ask any more questions, and continued to recall:

“As far as I know, Allen is a senior mber of the Omniscience Society, responsible for so important secret projects. But his position isn't that high, not even a Sub-Chair… a Sub-Chair should be a more senior position in the Omniscience Society. Sothing like a Bishop or an Archbishop…”

“So, they're targeting you because you killed one of their mbers?”

Vilnia Randell frowned.

“That doesn't sound like the Omniscience Society’s style.”

“Jessica was responsible for herding and collecting Quintessence for them,” l explained.

“But I killed Jessica, and all that Quintessence was sacrificed to the Red Moon by . The Omniscience Society doesn't know this. They think I took the Quintessence, and that's why they're targeting .”

“Heh.”

Hearing this, Vilnia Randell couldn't help but let out a sneer.

“To call themselves the Omniscience Society with this, they really are just a bunch of pseudo-sages.”

She said with disdain.

“How could a Stress Phase Shepherd hold that much Quintessence? They don't even bother to think.”

With that, Vilnia Randell looked at l again.

“Did you tell Bishop Oliver about this?”

“I did.”

l nodded.

Vilnia Randell then let out a sigh of relief.

“That's good.”

Vilnia Randell's fingers gently massaged l's shoulders, feeling her body slowly relax.

“But to be honest, I'm surprised.”

Vilnia Randell chuckled softly.

“You look so fragile, but I didn't expect you to be capable of killing soone.”

Hearing this, l didn't answer and just lowered her head slightly.

Vilnia Randell's fingers slid from her shoulders to her neck.

She leaned forward and whispered in l's ear: “But this is how a Red Moon Shepherd should be. Do you know, l—”

Her fingers continued to move down, gently rubbing l's collarbone.

“When I saw you walk out of the kitchen, your skirt was stained with blood, but you were pretending to be scared, as if you had just narrowly escaped death. I almost fell in love with you.”

Vilnia Randell's breath fanned l's ear.

Her fingers lingered at l's collarbone.

Besides the sweet scent of the raspberry pudding, the air also carried a hint of ambiguity.

“Do you know? Your expression at that ti was exactly like a kitten that had just finished its prey.”

Vilnia Randell chuckled softly.

Her fingers slowly moved downwards.

“You had blood on your hands, but you were pretending to be innocent.”

l's breathing beca erratic.

She could feel Vilnia Randell's fingers lightly fiddling with the buttons on her dress.

Her warm fingertips occasionally brushed against her skin, causing a shiver.

“W-wait!”

The girl imdiately reacted and grabbed Vilnia Randell's hand.

“What… what are you doing?”

“Ah, I'm sorry. When I'm talking, my hands always make little movents uncontrollably.”

Seeing that her plan was exposed, Vilnia Randell discreetly withdrew her hand and coughed lightly.

She tried to get closer to l, but this ti l took two steps back, looking at Vilnia Randell with a hint of vigilance.

“I think we should just talk at this distance…. Otherwise, I'm going ho.”

“Cough, cough… Alright, that works too.”

Vilnia Randell stopped walking with so disappointnt, secretly blaming herself for being too impatient just now.

“Oh right, l, do you want to know what my herding thod is?”

In order to change the subject, Vilnia Randell took the initiative to bring up her herding thod.

And l's attention was very naturally drawn to it, a curious look on her face.

After all, as a fellow Red Moon Shepherd, the white dove had said that eight out of ten Red Moon Shepherds can't escape from bloodshed.

And according to the Omniscience Society people, Vilnia Randell seed to be The Baptized already.

To be able to beco The Baptized shows that Vilnia Randell has definitely had a lot of experience in herding.

l really wanted to know what her herding thod was like, and if it also involved bloodshed or even killing.

Seeing the worry and curiosity in l's eyes, Vilnia Randell chuckled softly.

“Don't worry. My herding thod is considered a gentle one, even among Red Moon Shepherds. My herding won't take anyone's life, and it might not even involve bloodshed.”

“What is it?”

l asked subconsciously.

“I won't tell you.”

Vilnia Randell gave a mysterious smile.

“But I can give you a hint—our herding thods all correspond to one of the Red Moon's authorities.”

“The Red Moon's authorities….”

l instinctively thought about it in her mind.

Sacrifice, the Hunt, Desire, Death, Reincarnation.

Since Vilnia Randell said that she wouldn't take anyone's life, she could rule out the Hunt and Death, as well as Reincarnation.

The only ones left were Sacrifice and Desire.

Is Sacrifice dedicating things to the Red Moon?

What does she dedicate?

How?

If it's Desire?

Suddenly, l recalled all the intimate gestures Vilnia Randell had made towards her.

“You're not….”

“Want to guess?”

Vilnia Randell didn't answer, and just maintained her mysterious smile.

(Kill that vile seducer)

(Lead the lost lamb back to the right path)

Suddenly, the gibberish sounded again.

l's pupils suddenly contracted.

She then quickly got up.

“I… I have to go now—thank you for your hospitality.”

She said, then quickly walked toward the door.

“Are you leaving already?”

Vilnia Randell asked. “Why don't you stay for dinner? I wanted you to try my cooking.”

“N-no, it's getting late.”

l shook her head.

Her hand was already on the doorknob.

“Alright, if you insist.”

Seeing l's urgent expression, Vilnia Randell finally nodded.

“Well then, see you next week, l.”

“Mmm, see you next week….”

l nodded, then ran out of the door as if escaping.

Vilnia Randell stood by the window, watching l's figure get farther and farther away.

She couldn't help but let out a soft sigh.

“I didn't expect her to be a Shepherd too, and a Shepherd of the Hunt at that. Is this what they call a contrast….”

The girl slowly turned and walked toward her room, then pulled open a drawer.

The wide mahogany drawer contained one item after another—so were jewelry, so were specins, and so were letters.

These were all sacrifices.

Under each sacrifice was a label with the na of the one who sacrificed it.

Classmates, teachers, and even her parents.

Vilnia Randell gently closed the drawer, then opened a new compartnt.

She had lined the compartnt with gray velvet and wrote the person's na in amber ink.

This was what she had prepared for her, but it remained empty.

Waiting for the day it would receive the proper sacrifice.

“A Shepherd of the Hunt, and a Shepherd of Sacrifice. Either I will be the result of your hunt. Or you will offer as a sacrifice. No matter the outco, I will be content.”

Vilnia Randell looked at the empty compartnt and murmured softly.

“We truly have the best compatibility, l.”
