Ancient pill recipe? Maybe I could ask Dandan. Dugu Qianye thought.
After Mo Lian left, Dugu Qianye woke Dandan and asked about the Marrow-Cleansing Pill. After pondering for a while, Dandan said, "I’ve heard of this elixir you’re talking about, but I don’t know the recipe. It’s not like I have a hobby of collecting these things."
At that mont, Dudu called out to Dugu Qianye with his thoughts. When Dugu Qianye arrived inside the Refining Demon Pot, Dudu imdiately jumped into her arms, rubbing his drool onto her clothes, and said, "Master, maybe I know where the recipe for the Marrow-Cleansing Pill is."
Dugu Qianye was slightly surprised and asked, "You know?"
"Yep, yep, my previous master liked to practice alchemy and collected a lot of recipes. Maybe it’s there." After saying this, Dudu led Dugu Qianye to the outside of a dilapidated house. Dugu Qianye looked at this broken house with so speechlessness. The thatched cottage was lopsided, and the door was nearly falling off.
Worrying about the house collapsing, Dugu Qianye pushed open the door and went in. There wasn’t much inside the room, mostly just recipes and so prepared dicines. She carefully flipped through the recipes and finally saw the words "Marrow-Cleansing Pill" in an unassuming corner. It seed that this thing wasn’t valued at all in the past!
She picked up the recipe and glanced through it. The level of the elixir wasn’t high, just fifth-grade. However, the ingredients were sowhat surprising, and the process was different from the norm. Without the recipe, it would be impossible for anyone to develop it on their own.
Having asked Dudu, the Chief Butler, she knew that all the ingredients were available inside the Refining Demon Pot. The only thing she lacked now was her level in alchemy.
She had arrived here in June, and now it was December. Half a year had passed without her realizing it. She had already decided that she would attend Empire College in September next year. If she didn’t use Qingluan for transport, she would have to leave by July at the latest. Therefore, she only had half a year to improve her alchemy level, and that was to advance from level 2 to level 5!
Dugu Qianye couldn’t help feeling that the task was a bit daunting!
After December, New Year would co. This ant that Dugu Qianye had already been in this world for half a year. In half a year, she wondered where her father, her mother, and Baili Ruyan were and whether they were doing well.
On New Year’s Eve, Mo Jian sent soone to call Dugu Qianye to the hall for the reunion dinner, but she refused.
"Master, master, let’s have barbecue tonight!" Xiaohuo jumped joyfully on Dugu Qianye’s shoulder.
Xiaoyin rubbed against Dugu Qianye’s foot quietly, conveying its plea without a voice.
Mo Feng blinked his big eyes at Dugu Qianye. Seeing Xiaohuo and Xiaoyin’s antics, he was quite curious about Dugu Qianye’s barbecue.
With the first New Year coming up since she arrived here, Dugu Qianye was a little lancholic. This year she had no parents nor Baili Ruyan, only herself. However, seeing her excited companions, she buried that bit of sadness deep in her heart.
She took out the at she had prepared beforehand, the barbecue rack, skewers, and a brush. She put the charcoal in the rack and used fire to light it. After returning from Cangmang Mountain, she had specially ordered a set of barbecue tools from a blacksmith shop, because at wasn’t as tasty when roasted over an open fla. It’s just that she had been busy with alchemy and competing and hadn’t had the ti to use them.
When the charcoal had heated the rack adequately, Dugu Qianye placed the skewered at on the grid above, constantly turning it, occasionally brushing it with salt, chili, and Sichuan pepper. The aroma perated the air, causing a few audible swallows. When both sides of the at turned golden brown, she brushed on so cumin, and the air was suddenly even more fragrant. As soon as she put the at on the plate, Xiaohuo, Xiaoyin, and Mo Feng pounced on it, starting a at-grabbing contest.
"Wow, what’s that sll? It’s so fragrant!" Mo Lian’s voice ca from outside the courtyard. In no ti, Mo Jian, Mo Lian, and a visibly disgruntled Mo Ju appeared.
The three of them walked over, looking at Dugu Qianye barbecuing with curiosity. Mo Lian picked up a skewer of well-cooked at and after one bite, she couldn’t stop eating.
"Wow, Qianye, the at you grilled is different from what I’ve had before, it’s really delicious!" Mo Lian praised with her mouth full of at. She now understood why Mo Feng and the beasts were so fiercely competing for it.
Mo Jian and Mo Ju, enticed by the savory aroma, also tried a skewer and, after taking a bite, felt like everything they had eaten before was a waste.
"How did you two co here?" Dugu Qianye asked as she flipped the at on the grill.
"You didn’t join us in the main hall for the reunion dinner, so we had to co to you. Humph, it’s a good thing we did, or we’d have missed this delicious food." Mo Jian, who was burnt a bit, puffed on his mouth before saying, "My dear niece, how could you forget your uncle when you have sothing tasty?! Uncle is deeply hurt."
After saying this, Mo Jian pretended he was about to burst into tears.
Having finished the grilled at in her hand, Mo Lian turned her longing gaze toward the at sizzling on Dugu Qianye’s grill as she said, "Exactly, you’re being so unfair. If we hadn’t co over, we wouldn’t have known you were enjoying yourself here. Right, Mo Ju?"
Although Mo Ju still felt a bit embarrassed seeing Dugu Qianye, she nodded in agreent.
Dugu Qianye felt as though a flock of crows was flying overhead...
"Master, master, Qingluan also wants to eat grilled at!" Qingluan clamored from inside the Refining Demon Pot. Grilled at always made the composed Qingluan act childish.
Dugu Qianye glanced at Mo Jian and the others, and with a thought, Qingluan appeared on her shoulder. Bursting forth, Qingluan cried out and flew next to Xiaoyin to wrestle for the at.
Seeing Qingluan and the other two Beasts fighting over the at, Mo Jian and the others looked back at the busy Dugu Qianye. They had seen Xiaoyin before, a level eight Holy Beast. To dare compete with a level eight Holy Beast for food, they believed the others must also be of a not-so-low level.
Mo Ju cautiously asked, "Are they all your Phantom Beasts?"
The trio looked at Dugu Qianye with the silent hope that she would deny it, but Dugu Qianye shattered their hopes.
"Yeah, what’s wrong?" Dugu Qianye asked.
All three shook their heads simultaneously, indicating that there was no problem, but internally all were muttering: Everyone else has one or two Phantom Beasts, and you’ve got three, all of such high level. That’s too demoralizing! And you still have the nerve to ask what’s wrong?!
Seeing everyone had almost finished eating, Dugu Qianye grilled a few more plates, prepared a few side dishes. Then she brought out liquor, and they all drank and chatted rrily together while watching the three Beasts tussle and vie for the food. It was truly comfortable!
"I was wrong before, and I apologize to you, I’m sorry." Mo Ju picked up her glass to Dugu Qianye.
Dugu Qianye drank her liquor, signaling that she no longer held a grudge. In fact, without Mo Ju, she wouldn’t have co to this world. Seeing Dugu Qianye drink, Mo Ju happily returned to her seat, her smile much more relaxed.
"What are your plans next?" Mo Jian asked.
"I made plans with a few friends to attend the September enrollnt at Empire College. I want to go there to learn systematic knowledge," Dugu Qianye said.
"Mhm, Empire College is the best academy in our Mors Empire. Its admission standards are a bit high, but with your qualifications, getting in shouldn’t be difficult," Mo Jian said. "When you have ti, go have a look at the main family in Imperial Capital. Your grandfather and several uncles would be so happy to know that you can cultivate now!"
