---
The mont I looked at the screen, my jaw dropped.
"Are you serious right now, System?" I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
The system’s response ca imdiately.
**[Yes, host!]**
I rubbed my eyes and looked again. This had to be so kind of joke.
These things counted as quests? What kind of ssed up world had I landed in?
I thought quests would involve fighting monsters or saving villages. Wait... did this world even have monsters?
I had no idea.
From the few Chapters I’d read, I only knew about the main character and his powers. That was literally it. I didn’t know anything about the world’s history, geography, or culture.
Hell, I didn’t even know where I was right now.
I glanced around the room again, taking in my surroundings. There was a comfortable bed, a wardrobe, an expensive looking TV mounted on the wall, and a large mirror. Nothing that gave any clues about my location.
"This is just great," I muttered.
I quickly swiped the status window away. The quests might have been useful, but I wasn’t about to do any of that stuff. Not now, not ever.
I wasn’t that kind of guy anymore. eting Shia had changed completely. Well, mostly. I still watched MILF sex videos sotis, but that was different.
The point was, I’d been on a clean streak for years now. Since I was seventeen, actually. And I was proud of that.
It was all thanks to Shia.
Thinking about her brought back to what really mattered.
"Hey System," I called out. "You still haven’t told how to get back to my own world."
Another screen popped up instantly, but this one looked completely different from the others.
**[Ding! A suitable candidate has been chosen! Awakening the "Lucky Draw."]**
I stared at the screen, totally confused.
"What’s happening now?" I said to myself.
A lucky draw? Really?
Then, right in front of , three black cards appeared out of nowhere. They started spinning slowly in the air, like so kind of magic trick.
Cards? And they were all blank?
**[Ding! Host, please select one of the three cards as a reward for your arrival to this world!]**
"Okay, okay, I’ll pick one," I said quickly. "But first, answer my question. You said there was a way to get back to my world. What is it? How do I get ho?"
Suddenly, I heard a chanical voice speaking inside my head, which scared a little.
**[This is it, Host! These cards! They can bring you back, but you have to choose the right one!]**
Wait, you can talk in my head now?
**[Yes, Host!]**
That was kind of cool, but I had more important things to think about.
"Hold on," I said slowly. "Did you just say these cards can get back ho?"
The system’s voice ca into my mind again.
**[Yes, Host! You just need to choose the right one!]**
Hmm...
I rubbed my chin while I thought about it and watched the three black cards float in the air. They all looked exactly the sa. There were no marks or symbols or anything to tell them apart.
This seed like a trap.
"System, before I pick a card," I said carefully, "Can you promise that all three cards have sothing good in them? Like, I won’t pick one and die right away or sothing, right?"
**[Yes, Host! I can guarantee that all three cards have good rewards!]**
Thank goodness.
What a relief.
For a second, I was really worried that one of these cards might kill or sothing. But now that the system promised they were all good, I could relax a little.
Anyway...
Which card should I pick?
The first one? Second? Or third?
My heart was telling to pick the second card, but my brain kept saying to pick the third. It was weird though. Neither my heart nor my brain wanted to pick the first card.
I looked at the first card more carefully.
It looked just like the others. Just a blank, black card floating in the air. But sothing about it felt different. There was this strange feeling coming from it, like an energy I couldn’t really explain.
Actually, wait. This feeling was familiar. I’d felt this before sowhere, but where? When?
I couldn’t rember.
Without thinking about it, my hand moved toward the first card. My fingers touched it before I even realized what I was doing.
**[Lucky Draw! Host, you have chosen the first card!]**
**[Congratulations! You have been rewarded with the "Returnee" card!]**
**[Host, you will be returning to your world within 30 seconds!]**
What?
Are you serious?
The second I read those words, I started jumping around like a little kid who just got the best present ever. I couldn’t stop myself.
"Oh my God! Yes! YES!" I shouted, raising my fist in the air.
This was amazing! I was going ho! Really going ho!
My mind was going crazy with excitent. I wouldn’t have to worry about getting killed by so villain. I wouldn’t have to figure out this weird world. I could see my parents again. I could finally tell Shia how I felt!
I was finally free from this nightmare!
Then the system’s voice interrupted my celebration.
**[Host, it’s only for two hours.]**
My whole body stopped moving.
"Wait, what?"
Before I could ask what that ant, a sharp pain hit the back of my head. Everything went black right away, and I felt myself falling to the floor.
The last thing I thought was: Only two hours?
Then nothing.
---
My eyes slowly opened.
The first thing I did was look around the room. I checked every corner carefully. I had to make sure I was really back in my world and this wasn’t so trick.
After looking around for a whole minute, I finally relaxed. This was real. I was back in my apartnt, in my bed, in my own world.
"Thank God," I said quietly. "I’m really back."
But then I rembered sothing that made feel terrible again.
Oh no. I forgot. I only have two hours here.
"Damn it!" I hit the mattress with my fist.
Just when I thought everything would be okay, just when I thought I could talk to Shia and tell her how I felt about her...
Forget it. There was no point in thinking about it.
I sat on my bed and stared at the empty wall. My chest felt heavy. Two hours wasn’t enough ti. Not even close.
I needed more ti. Way more.
After another minute of feeling bad for myself, I made myself stop. I got off the bed and picked up my phone to check what ti it was.
----
**Date:** February 14th, 2025
**Day:** Sunday
**Ti:** 11:00 AM
----
Eleven o’clock? No way!
I thought the system would send back to 9:14 AM, the exact ti I left. But it was already eleven. I’d completely missed eting Shia at the park. She was probably gone by now.
My heart sank.
"System!" I shouted. "Why didn’t you send back two hours earlier? You could have done that!"
A screen appeared in front of right away.
[Sorry, host! You should have told what ti you wanted to return to. This is not my fault!]
"So you’re saying this is my fault?"
Nothing. The system stayed quiet.
"Great, now you won’t even answer," I said under my breath.
Fine. Maybe it was my fault. I should have been more specific.
With that thought, I fell back on my bed and closed my eyes.
What was I supposed to do now? Two hours. That’s all I had.
I couldn’t even-Wait.
An idea suddenly ca to . Of course! Why didn’t I think of this before?
I could use this ti to get ready. If I was going back to that world, I needed every advantage I could find.
I grabbed my phone and started looking through my apps for the webnovel reader. If I could read the story ahead of ti, I’d know where all the powerful items were hidden. I’d know what dangers were coming. I’d know everything I needed to survive.
"I’m not wasting this chance," I said as my fingers moved quickly across the screen.
After a few seconds, I found the app and opened it. My heart was beating fast as I typed the novel’s title in the search bar.
"Rise of the Strongest Protagonist" showed up in the results.
"Yes! Finally!"
I clicked on it right away and watched the loading circle spin as the Chapters started to appear. This was it. This was how I’d stay alive.
But just as the novel started loading on my phone, a system ssage appeared in front of .
**[Host, you have 60 seconds to look at the novel before it disappears from this world!]**
I felt my blood turn cold.
"Are you serious?" I yelled at the empty room. "System, what’s wrong with you?"
My hands were shaking as I looked at the countdown in the corner of my vision. Fifty-eight seconds. Fifty-seven.
"Why are you doing this to ? I thought you were supposed to help ! How does taking away my only chance to survive help at all?"
Suddenly, the system spoke:
**[Host, I am on your side, but if you learn where every cheat item is in the novel, your "Lucky Draw" feature will beco useless later!]**
I stopped moving. "Wait, Lucky Draw is an ability I have?"
I had no idea. I thought it was just a one-ti gift or sothing.
**[Host, you will get a lucky draw every ti you level up your rank!]**
"But wait," I said, feeling confused. "How is that my ability if I can’t control when it happens?"
**[Host, I’m sorry for confusing you. It’s more like a gift that keeps giving rather than an ability. My mistake! But yes, you’ll get many draws as you get stronger.]**
"Oh, okay. That makes sense now."
The loading screen finally finished, and the novel page showed up on my phone. But I didn’t click on the Chapters. I went straight to the reviews instead.
Why?
It was simple. I only had thirty seconds left. There was no way I could find any artifact locations in the actual Chapters that fast. Reading through all that text would take forever.
But then I rembered sothing important. After I quit reading this novel months ago, I had looked through so reviews because I was bored. One person had written about the exact location of a skill in their comnt.
I couldn’t rember the skill’s na, but I knew it was SSS rank. You don’t forget sothing like that.
The reviewer’s na was sothing like "elon." At least, I hoped I was rembering it right.
I quickly typed the reviewer’s na in the search bar. Luckily, I had rembered it right. A review from "elon" showed up on my screen.
I clicked on it right away, and the full review opened up.
It was a long, angry two-star review.
To summarize, the reviewer wrote:
"This novel is absolute garbage! The protagonist survives on nothing but plot armor. How does he tear through high-level dungeons like they’re nothing? And why does he stumble across artifacts and skills every five minutes? It’s fucking ridiculous!"
That was pretty much all it said, but it also gave exactly what I needed.
The location of an important skill.
This person must have been really mad at the story to write such a furious review, but their anger was helping now.
Because of their rant, I learned three important things about the novel’s world.
First, there were dungeons in that world.
Second, if there were dungeons, there had to be monsters too.
And third, the best discovery: the SSS rank skill was so type of future sight ability.
The reviewer didn’t say what the skill was called or explain much about it. But at least I knew where to find it, and that was really important.
While I was thinking about all this, the novel page suddenly disappeared from my phone. A different novel took its place.
I wasn’t shocked. The thirty seconds were over.
