Chapter 033: A Higher Priority

Just as Su Mingxuan’s motorcade sped through the streets, one of the bodyguards made a call to a certain number. The phone rang only a few tis before it was answered.

“Boss,” the bodyguard spoke quickly, “there’s a problem.”

“What problem?” A low, steady voice responded from the other end.

The bodyguard hesitated for a mont before gritting his teeth. “The little princess is surrounded. And… we’ve already lost a few of our n.”

A heavy silence fell on the line. Then ca the sound of cracking knuckles.

“What the hell are you all doing?!” The voice on the other end turned icy. “You all know full well who she is. If anything happens to her, you’d better dig your own graves!”

“Yes…” The bodyguard’s forehead broke out in sweat. They were royal guards. Taking this job ant pledging your life. That was an ancient, unshakable rule.

“Where is Miss Su?” the man asked darkly.

“In the eastern slums of Tianhai City. We’re en route with Young Master Su. The coordinates are XXXXX…” The guard rattled off a string of numbers.

The man quickly noted them down. His voice remained cold. “You’ve already lost several n and you’re still dragging Young Master Su into this? Have you all gone mad? I ought to shoot you myself. I’m sending people over right now.”

“Please, boss—” The bodyguard broke into a cold sweat. He knew his superior ant what he said. When it ca to the Su family, nothing was off-limits.

“I’ll handle the response team. Your job is to protect Young Master Su and the little princess. At all costs. That ans your lives if need be.”

“Yes, sir.”

As guards, strength wasn’t everything. Loyalty was.

When the master suffers, the servant toils.

When the master is disgraced, the servant dies.

It was that simple.

anwhile, in the eastern slums of Tianhai City, what was once a bustling village within the city had declined due to factory closures and relocations. With business gone and hos vacant, the population dwindled, turning the area into a veritable ghetto.

At the center of it all, a cent house was surrounded by a group of n and won. Their expressions were cruel, their stance nacing.

Around them, several black-clad bodyguards lay on the ground, motionless, each with a throwing knife embedded in their body. Every strike had been fatal. Judging by how quickly they’d been dispatched, the attackers’ skill level was frighteningly high.

“Bai Suxin, Miss Bai… who would’ve thought you’ve been hiding out in a dump like this all these years. No wonder we couldn’t find you. Co on out. The boss has really been missing you.”

The leader of the group, a woman, sneered as she twirled two gleaming knives between her fingers, the blades catching cold light as they spun.

“You bastards!” a young girl’s voice shouted from inside the house. “What grudge do you have against Sister Bai? Why are you attacking and killing people like this? Just wait—my brother is on his way!”

Su Xiaong stood at the very center of the house, cheeks puffed out in anger.

“Miss, don’t speak.” A bodyguard whispered urgently.

Three guards crouched at various entry points, guns ready. They knew the people outside weren’t ordinary. They were up against enemies that were far beyond regular human limits. Engaging recklessly would only expose their position. All they could do now was wait—for backup.

Su Xiaong’s identity was no secret. News of this ambush had undoubtedly already been reported.

“I’m sorry, Xiaong…” Bai Suxin sat beside her with her arms around her knees, face full of sorrow and despair. She hadn’t worn her headscarf today, and her beauty was laid bare—skin fair and smooth, a stunning face streaked with tears, eyes full of pain and guilt. The sight would soften any heart.

Su Xiaong gave her a silent smile in return, which only deepened the guilt in Bai Suxin’s eyes. She couldn’t help but think that maybe she really was cursed…

“Ha ha ha…” Suddenly the woman outside burst into laughter, her voice dripping with spite. “Sister Bai? Oh please, Bai Suxin… stop lying. This little girl probably doesn’t even know what you’ve done, does she? Want to tell her? The so-called sister she’s protecting is no saint.”

“No!!” Bai Suxin scread in anguish.

The mont her voice sounded, the woman below narrowed her eyes. She gestured silently, and a few of her subordinates imdiately understood. They moved along the rooftops, leaping swiftly from one to another, inching closer to the cent house above.

anwhile, the woman below taunted, “Little girl, you should co out now. Don’t follow that ‘sister’ of yours. If a knife scars that pretty little face of yours, you’ll have a hard ti getting married, won’t you?”

Using the sound of her voice to cover them, her people grew closer and closer to their target.

“Ding-dong—” Just then, her phone buzzed.

She picked it up quickly and read the ssage.

【Die Luo, retrieve the little girl. Her priority is above Bai Suxin. The Special Forces are en route. You have five minutes.】

Her eyes flashed with surprise. The little girl was this important?

【Understood.】 she replied, a grin slowly stretching across her face.

She flicked her fingers, and in an instant, her subordinates sward forward.
