Chapter 514: Chapter 295: Unexpected Visitor
The night was as dark as ink, and the city’s noise gradually faded away outside the car window.
Wen Shulin was sitting in the back of the rcedes, with his eyes slightly closed, seemingly napping, yet seeming contemplative.
“Chairman Wen, we’ve arrived,” the driver said softly.
Wen Shulin slowly opened his eyes, a glint of light flashing in them, “Okay, you don’t have to wait for later, I’ll take a cab back.”
“Alright, Chairman Wen.”
Wen Shulin originally planned to go to Wanbao Hall to et his lover, but upon arrival, not only was Chen Cheng absent, but Xiao ier, who was always at the shop, was also missing.
After careful inquiry with Zhao Ling, he learned that i Xiang had bought a lot of groceries and all three had returned to the siheyuan.
He initially didn’t want to co, but then he thought to himself, if i Xiang could stay there, why couldn’t he?
Inexplicably, a surge of desire to check things out rose in his heart.
The rcedes stopped in front of the siheyuan’s front gate, and the driver jogged from the trunk to hand over the takeout bag from Wanbao Hall to Wen Shulin.
Wen Shulin looked at the courtyard gate, then strode in with long steps.
He had already thought of an excuse for his sudden visit, and his grip on the takeout bag tightened a bit.
Crossing through the hanging flower gate, Wen Shulin imdiately saw the brightly lit main house, west wing, and dining room. The sound of his high heels on the bluestone floor was especially clear in the quiet yard.
“Is anyone here? Xiao Er?”
Wen Shulin stood in the front yard and called out, “Mr. Chen?”
As his voice fell, he didn’t get any response.
“Eh? Where is everyone?” Wen Shulin thought for a mont and headed towards the dining room.
But he had hardly taken two steps when Chen Cheng’s voice ca from behind, “Why have you co?”
“Ah?!”
Wen Shulin was startled, swiftly turning around to see Chen Cheng erging from the archway, nearly losing grip on the takeout bag.
“You scared to death.” Wen Shulin took a deep breath and added, “I just went to Wanbao Hall and saw no one, so I packed two dishes and ca over to add more dishes for you all.”
Smiling, he asked, “Is it okay if I add a pair of chopsticks? I haven’t eaten yet.”
Chen Cheng walked up and hugged Wen Shulin around the waist.
Wen Shulin was even more startled, and she lowered her voice, “What are you doing? Aren’t you afraid Xiao Er will see?”
But despite what she said, the smile on her lips couldn’t be suppressed.
“You arrived just in ti,” Chen Cheng spoke with a smile that was not quite a smile.
“Huh?”
“No need to add chopsticks, they’re all drunk.”
“Drunk… Drunk?!”
Chen Cheng pointed in the direction he was speaking of, “Sister Er, i Xiang, and Wan Wan, they drank too much and I just helped them into the house right when you arrived.”
Wen Shulin thought only i Xiang was here, not expecting ng Wanning to be here as well.
She twisted her body a few tis, breaking free from Chen Cheng’s embrace, “Mr. Chen, you’re lucky.”
“Don’t be jealous, give a hand.” Chen Cheng took the takeout bag from Wen Shulin’s hand, grabbing her hand unceremonially, “Help out, later, I’ll cook dinner for you personally.”
Wen Shulin hesitated, but couldn’t resist Chen Cheng’s strength, being pulled along by him into the main bedroom.
Crossing the threshold, Wen Shulin saw for the first ti the room that Chen Cheng and Xiao ier shared.
The room was much more simplistic than she imagined, with a large carved bed occupying most of the space, the dark wood fra, coupled with the dark red bedding, appeared both ancient and stable.
Xiao ier lay on the bed, her cheeks flushed, breathing even, seemingly sound asleep.
A light blanket covered her, with one hand exposed, showcasing an expensive jade bracelet on her fair wrist.
“How much did they drink?” Wen Shulin fanned the air in front of her nose, unable to help but marvel, “Such a strong sll of alcohol.”
Chen Cheng smiled helplessly, “Don’t ntion it, they drank even more than the last ti with you. All white liquor.”
Wen Shulin put down her handbag, “Go fetch so hot water.”
“Why?”
“Aren’t you asking for my help?” Wen Shulin took off her coat and walked towards the bed, “Besides, don’t you still have the two little ones to look after?”
A series of rhetorical questions left Chen Cheng speechless.
He turned into the bathroom, fetched so water, and brought it to Wen Shulin, “Please take care of this. I’ll go make so sober-up soup and honey water for them.”
Wen Shulin, without further words, twisted a towel and wiped Xiao ier’s face.
Chen Cheng also hurried into the kitchen, starting to prepare.
After a while, Chen Cheng returned with the sober-up soup and honey water.
“You really, don’t keep an eye on things,” Wen Shulin complained without turning around, “Is it that fun to drink so much?”
“I didn’t know,” Chen Cheng feigned innocence, “I wasn’t drinking, I went to buy them skewers, and when I ca back they were like this.”
He helped Xiao ier sit up and gave her so water, while Wen Shulin wiped the corners of Xiao ier’s mouth, her eyes filled with resentnt towards him.
“Why are you hating ?”
“I think you sotis really go too far.” Wen Shulin pouted, “What kind of person are you, making co… sigh, nevermind.”
Chen Cheng knew the bitterness in Wen Shulin’s heart; he smiled, “Thanks for your hard work.”
“Nice words are useless.” Wen Shulin stood up, “Let’s go, aren’t there two more?”
Chen Cheng laid Xiao ier down, covered her with a blanket, and followed Wen Shulin with the freshly made sober-up soup.
Entering the west wing room, Wen Shulin looked at ng Wanning sleeping peacefully on the bed, her serene sleeping posture truly captivating.
Just like before, Chen Cheng helped ng Wanning lean against him, gave her so water, and then Wen Shulin cleaned up after.
“Didn’t she move out?” Wen Shulin asked.
“Yeah, but she got drunk, I couldn’t just ignore her, could I?” Chen Cheng replied, “This room wasn’t taken apart, so I just helped her here.”
