"Ca-Cain!" Violet stuttered out in the lowest whisper, almost like she was trying to confirm that it wasn’t just a beast standing in front of her and that there was Cain sowhere inside of him.

Only to get no response as the beast simply moved closer to her, sniffing her body and rubbing its huge head against her. Violet’s heart thumped in fear as she felt it fix its gaze on her arm.

Leaning close enough to snap off the cloth she had bound over it with its huge teeth, her eyes snapped shut in fear of being bitten, only to feel sothing wet and soft slide over the wound on her arm gently.

It was shocking to see and even more surprising to feel and watch the wound slowly but surely close as Cain’s tongue continued to slide over it. An amazed expression spread across her face, and a huge smile appeared in excitent until she felt Cain back away, gesturing with his head toward the wound by the upper side of her ribs.

It was almost like her head had suddenly cleared as she imdiately scrambled to her feet. "I’m fine, but I need to go!" Violet said, turning around to run, only to feel the wolf move to block her path with complete ease.

rely a shift of his body, and he blocked five direct paths in front of her without having to move much.

A low growl emanated from his throat, one that scared her considering the fact that she knew the kind of person Cain was, and from what she could see, he had no intention of taking ’no’ for an answer.

’But you don’t have a choice,’ Violet thought to herself as she backed away and spoke to him in as fierce a tone as she could muster. "I don’t know what you’re trying to say, but it’s not safe for here!" Slightly glad that he was in his beast form and wouldn’t be able—

Only to see him slowly transform in front of her eyes into a man, a fully naked man... The naked part was one she refused to dwell on even as she heard him begin to speak to her.

"Take off your shirt! If it’s not deep, I can heal—"

"You don’t have to! I’m fine!" Violet snapped and was about to continue speaking when she felt sothing wet slide down her face. Reaching up with the back of her hand to wipe it off, she discovered that it was blood.

She was still processing it when she heard Cain step forward, closing the distance between them with a nacing expression on his face as he spoke again.

"You will pull off your shirt, OR I can rip it off right now!" The anger in his tone was palpable, in a way that told her she only had seconds to get away. But even if she had enough ti, there was no way she could move fast enough to escape Cain.

Slowly it dawned on her that if she hadn’t gotten close to him, he wouldn’t care enough to check her shirt. Realizing that it was her mistake that had co to bite her in the ass, she opened her mouth and begged—the only thing she could do at that mont, even if it was the one thing he hated.

"Ca-Cain, please! Just let it go! It’s a small wound, and I just need—"

"You’re bleeding from your nose, which ans you’re bleeding internally!" he explained, his voice softer than before as he raised his hand to touch the side of her face. Their gazes locked intensely on each other, almost like nothing else mattered.

"I won’t heal you, but I’ll imdiately drive you to a hospital."

Violet wanted to continue to refuse, knowing that the second she passed out—even in the hospital—her secret would no longer be her own.

The suspicion in Cain’s eyes was glaring, and the curiosity she could see in his gaze was the only thing stronger than it.

"I can’t change your—" But she was still speaking when she suddenly felt Cain’s entire body freeze, turning his head to stare up into the distance and pulling her towards him at the sa ti a loud shot rang out.

It was scary, but it was the sight of Cain dropping to the ground that scared her even more! His shoulder seed like it had been torn through, and it was bloodied. She watched his entire body go limp, which ant only one thing.

He had been hit by a silver bullet, sothing that wouldn’t have mattered if he hadn’t just transford into his human form, which had weakened him.

"It’s one bullet! You’ll be fine!" Violet whispered, dropping to the ground beside him as she hugged him, only to see him grind his teeth together and loudly groan in pain—sothing she had only seen as a result of his curse.

"No!!! IT BURNS! You need to remove it now!" he groaned in utter pain that shook Violet to the bone as she imdiately began to panic.

"Wi-with what??" She had no knife or weapon and, as far as she knew, Cain was also completely naked. She was completely taken aback to hear him respond.

"Your hands!" he growled out, his eyes flicking shut, which terrified Violet even more as nothing else mattered at that mont but helping him.

"Bu-but—" she stamred, her entire body shaking and her head shaking as she tried to say that she couldn’t. But the fear of seeing Cain—the strongest person she knew—slowly lose consciousness scared her even more.

Biting her lips until she drew blood, Violet held his shoulders and sank her hands into the huge hole in his shoulder, horrified to see Cain not so much as react even as she plunged her hand in.

Her hands were wet with blood as she struggled to pull the bullet out, shocked by how hard it was, tears sliding across her face even as she realized that she was widening the wound. But she didn’t stop, with no other choice but to push the bullet out of his skin through the other side.

Cain’s gasp was enough to tell her just how imnsely painful it must have been for him, as she pulled his body closer to a tree to allow him to rest against it.

"You’ll be fine!" she whispered to him, confident that all he needed was ti to heal, as she stared at the wound—only to realize that not only was it yet to heal, but it was still bleeding.

Her gaze darted toward the now empty gate as she realized at the sa ti that if ever she wanted to leave and never return, she’d never get a better chance... not ever again.
