Silas’s POV

As that man ca beside while we were walking, he said.

"Actually, I think we will reach our destination soon, so don’t worry. It seems long, but it isn’t. It’s just how we’re feeling it."

I simply smiled at his words and didn’t reply, not knowing what else to say.

Just then, I felt sothing cold dripping on . I looked up at the sky and saw that it was snowing.

Within minutes, the snowfall grew heavy, and it was falling so beautifully. The wind was bitterly cold as we continued walking under the cascade of snow.

It was my first ti being outside during a snowfall. In our pack, it hardly ever snows, so it’s rare to see such a scene.

But in Lupine pack, it’s already cold, and snow cos in abundance—so much so that it transford the world around .

Yet, because of the heavy snow, we could no longer see where we were going or what lay ahead.

Everything was blurry—only the falling snow remained visible.

It was hard to walk through the snow, and just then, we heard a howl—right in front of us. It wasn’t too far, and as the sound echoed in my ears, I trembled. Looking around, I said,

"Guys, did you hear that too? Are there more wolves here? What the hell is happening?"

One of the soldiers turned on their torch and tried to see what was ahead. But from the scent alone, we could all tell—they were wolves.

"Run, everyone!"

The mont we heard the soldier’s shout, we all turned back and started running in the direction we ca from.

We ran as fast as we could, but I had no idea where I was going. Then, suddenly, I felt a grip on my hand.

When I glanced beside , it was Kael. He was holding my hand and had already started running.

I saw Shine running too, holding onto one of the soldiers, while the wolves chased us at full speed.

We knew they could reach us at any mont, so we scattered in different directions.

Sohow, Kael and I ended up separated from the others, running toward the forest—into the mountains.

It was dark, and we had no idea what kind of dangers lurked in the forest. But still, we ran.

Because between being eaten alive by hungry wolves and disappearing into the mountains, the latter seed like the better choice.

My legs had grown weak from all the running, but we still didn’t stop. Who knew what would happen if we did?

Those wolves could pounce on us at any mont. So we kept running, running, running—until finally, we stopped.

Kael glanced around while I stood there, panting heavily.

"I don’t think they’re chasing us anymore," he said.

Hearing his words, I also looked around and saw no sign of them.

We started walking slowly, trying to find a place to stay since the snow was still falling heavily. Then, by sheer luck, we found a cave.

As soon as we stepped inside, the first thing Kael did was check the entire cave to make sure there was nothing—or no one—dangerous lurking inside.

"Silas, it’s safe here. No one’s inside. Let’s stay here until the snow stops."

"What will happen now? What if we get stuck here forever? Are we going to die here? I don’t want to die yet."

Kael shot a side glance as he sat down.

"Just sit down. Don’t overthink. We’re not going to die here—at least, I’m sure of that. My ti hasn’t co yet."

"Sheesh, you idiot."

I sighed and sat down beside him. The ground was freezing, and the cave walls were hard and icy.

Cold wind seeped inside, making the air feel even sharper, like tiny ice shards brushing against my skin.

"Kael, what do you think this is? It’s like they’ve lost control of their minds and only know how to eat. This hasn’t happened in ages. It’s sothing new... like a disaster."

As I spoke, countless thoughts flooded my mind. I couldn’t believe what I had just witnessed—it was the most horrifying thing I had ever seen in my life.

Kael leaned his back against the cold, hard cave wall, letting out a deep sigh. Resting his hand on one knee, he said,

"I’m not sure. I can’t say anything for certain. But how were they able to shift like that? My mind keeps asking that question. And even if we assu they were cursed, a curse wouldn’t affect that many wolves at once. If it were a curse, there would be one or two... but there were so many. That ans they aren’t cursed."

I kept my eyes on Kael as he spoke, and his words struck . Yes... maybe they weren’t cursed. It had to be sothing else.

But no matter how much we asked each other about it, we had no answers. We talked and talked for fifteen minutes, but then the cold beca unbearable. It was so freezing that we started to shake.

I rubbed my palms together, trying to create so warmth, but it wasn’t working.

And we didn’t even have a fire in the cave. Just then... Kael wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled closer. I looked at him, my eyes filled with disbelief.

But the mont I was close to him, I started to feel warm.

I didn’t pull away from him because it was warm. At least if we stayed close together, we wouldn’t freeze.

I forgot everything else and just let myself stay in his arms, feeling the warmth. And he did the sa.

In that mont, as I rested in his embrace, we both leaned against the wall.

Then, suddenly, he started to gently pet my head and pulled closer, pressing my head against his chest.

The mont I felt his warmth surrounding , my eyes started to grow heavy.

But just as I closed my eyes, I heard a voice. The mont that sound reached my ears, a strange feeling washed over —like I had heard that voice sowhere before.
