The top floor of the Binhai University dical School laboratory building has now beco a restricted area for regular students. Warnings are posted in conspicuous places on the stairs and elevators.
"Unauthorized entry to the top floor without the permission of the research group mbers will result in severe punishnt from the college, depending on the severity of the situation!"
To prevent possible accidents, the number of people on the night shift in the research group has been increased from one to two.
The ones on duty tonight are Zhao Fang and Song Licheng.
"Senior, congratulations on getting your paper published in a core journal and included in the SCI, that's really impressive!"
Song Licheng placed the two bags of fruit he was holding on the ground and set down his backpack, chuckling, "Thanks, but it was mainly due to the advantage of our teacher's and Professor Chen's research project. It doesn't count as my real ability."
"Moreover, it was the teacher's decision that gave the opportunity to independently publish this paper. Otherwise, according to convention, the first author would definitely be the project's main leader."
Zhao Fang responded with an "oh" and asked, "I heard the college is preparing a seminar on that project. Senior, will you be speaking at it?"
Song Licheng gently shook his head and said, "Probably not. Currently, Professor Chen has doing so trivial preparatory work. Besides, my main focus is still on the current project."
He further suggested, "Zhao Fang, this arteriovenous replacent research is highly innovative and has many entry points for in-depth study. You could pick a point, delve into it, and write a paper for publication."
"The teacher definitely won't block us or steal our ideas and innovations on this front."
"I'm aware of that," Zhao Fang replied with a hint of mystery. "Senior, I already have an idea."
"Let tell you, for special locations that ordinary treatnt thods can't reach, such as the inside of organs, sedint accumulation on the vascular walls, or even blockages, could we use the arteriovenous replacent thod to flush them out?"
"We all know that most vascular blockages occur in veins."
"If we switch to arterial blood, because of the high flow rate and flushing power, it might be able to dislodge the attachnts on the vessel walls."
Song Licheng's eyes lit up, "Junior, that's a fantastic topic for application research, an excellent entry point. You can definitely start working on this."
However, Zhao Fang's face turned bitter as she said, "I did so theoretical research privately, but when it ca to experintation, I hit a major obstacle."
"Renting the college's laboratory, equipnt, and experintal specins would cost tens of thousands. I don't have that kind of money."
Song Licheng offered enthusiastically, "Junior, you could apply to our teacher. He's not a stingy person. Or you could apply for the college's student independent research fund."
Zhao Fang shook her head and said, "I made a big mistake last ti. The fact that the teacher didn't kick out was already a blessing. If my idea is just wishful thinking, wouldn't it waste the teacher's money again?"
"I just want to run a few experints privately, and with 70-80% confidence, then I'll tell the teacher."
"As for the college's independent research fund, it takes at least one or two months for approval, not to ntion it's the sumr vacation now."
After thinking for a mont, Song Licheng decided, "Junior, I think your idea is very feasible. How about this? I'll act as a sponsor and fund your research."
"If the experint fails, we'll just consider the money as a sunk cost. If it succeeds, you can repay from the subsequent funding you receive."
Zhao Fang was taken aback, sowhat incredulous, "Senior, this would require at least forty to fifty thousand. Do you have that much money? Or are you secretly a rich heir hiding your wealth?"
Song Licheng chuckled and said, "What rich heir? When have you ever seen splurge on anything?"
"This laptop is a recent lightweight replacent; I used to use an old, bulky computer."
"Mostly because I participated in the previous project led by the teacher, Dean Tao and the teacher gave a project allowance thereafter, so I have so spare money."
"That's wonderful! Just wonderful!"
Like a little girl, Zhao Fang clapped her hands in excitent, exclaiming, "Thank you, senior! I'm quite confident I won't let your investnt go to waste."
"Yes, senior, let's consider this idea a joint one between us."
Song Licheng quickly waved his hands, refusing, "Junior, I have no intention of coveting your idea."
"I need to focus on the teacher's assignnts, so books on the reading list I haven't completely absorbed yet. Plus, I need to concentrate on the current project and preparations for Professor Chen's seminar."
"Moreover, I also have to start working on my doctoral dissertation."
"Next year is my graduation year. My dissertation has just been outlined, and I haven't started writing. I really don't have ti to participate in your research."
Song Licheng, looking troubled, continued, "I found out that several people from my cohort have nearly finished their doctoral dissertations; one has even begun a second revision."
"But I haven't even started mine. I definitely don't want to graduate late!"
Zhao Fang giggled and said, "Sharpening the axe won't delay the wood chopping, our teacher has laid down a solid foundation for us."
"Now that you've outlined your dissertation, it ans you already have the ideas and direction. After conducting a few validation experints, writing it should be a smooth and swift process."
"Senior, you'll definitely graduate smoothly."
Song Licheng nodded confidently, "Junior, to tell you the truth, even though I haven't actually started writing my doctoral dissertation, I'm truly confident I can pass the defense in one go."
"I've been refining the outline to address its lack of innovation and depth, and I've added so new ideas. After all, it's a doctoral dissertation; while it doesn't have to be groundbreaking, it can't embarrass the teacher or..."
He added, "Also...it shouldn't embarrass Professor Chen."
Hearing this, Zhao Fang smiled aningfully and said, "Senior brother, let tell you, now when people ask who my ntor is, I always directly say it's Teacher Lin."
"Who wouldn't agree with that!"
Song Licheng also chid in, "Teacher's guidance over these past six months has far surpassed the pointers I've received from Professor Chen over the past few years."
"At first, the teacher said he was limited in energy and couldn't teach so many people."
"I even thought the teacher was just making excuses, wanting to brush us off for so peace and quiet. But after these past six months, it's clear he has indeed put in a lot of effort to teach us."
Zhao Fang felt the sa and said, "Just coming up with a reading list every two or three months based on each person's situation would be enough to rack the brains of other PhD advisors."
"Oh, senior brother, the list of professional books the teacher made for all of us adds up to at least five or six hundred, if not a thousand. The teacher seems to know each book inside out and ntions them effortlessly."
"The teacher's mory must be incredible; his ability to rember things on sight is remarkable!"
Song Licheng said with deep admiration, "The world of a genius is beyond our guessing."
At this mont, the experintal monkeys locked in the iron cage started chirping, and Zhao Fang turned to look at them, realizing, "Oh dear, I've been talking to you, senior brother, and forgot to feed them!"
As she said this, she picked up a bag of fruit from the ground and began distributing it to the monkeys...
At this very mont, in the reception area on the first floor of Xiangtai Apartnt, Lin Jie was hosting a stranger who had co to visit.
Looking at the man in front of him with graying hair and an older face, Lin Jie politely asked, "Hello! You ntioned you ca to consult about organ donation?"
The visitor sized Lin Jie up and said, "Hello, Expert Lin."
"My na is Huang Youjie. Don't let my old appearance fool you; I'm just fifty-one years old this year and in great health, so all my organs should be good."
Lin Jie heard the implication in his words and said, "Are you considering donating your organs?"
"Your body..."
Huang Youjie chuckled lightly and explained, "My body is fine, so not now."
"I read about your accomplishnts online."
He said with longing, "I was just thinking, if one day I die from illness or accident and my organs could help soone live again, even if they achieve just a tenth or even a hundredth of your accomplishnts, Expert Lin, it would still be a great thing."
Lin Jie gratefully said, "Thank you for your contribution. If used properly, it could save not just one person but perhaps several, even a dozen or more!"
"The achievents of so many people together would surely surpass mine."
"Can it really save so many people?" Huang Youjie asked a bit excitedly.
Lin Jie nodded, "Yes, it certainly can."
"Two kidneys can save two patients with severe renal failure, a heart can save one person, lungs can save two people, a liver can save two to three people..."
He felt continuing like this seed a bit inappropriate, as if he was about to dissect the person in front of him.
Lin Jie then stopped himself and, a bit embarrassed, said, "Please forgive , I didn't an anything else. A healthy body can indeed save many lives."
Huang Youjie didn't mind and said, "It's fine, I understand! Could you please explain how to donate?"
"You can go to the hospital to register for organ donation..."
Lin Jie then very thoroughly explained to Huang Youjie the procedures regarding organ donation.
"Thank you, Expert Lin, for your detailed explanation!"
Huang Youjie politely asked, "May I make a request?"
Lin Jie softly said, "Oh, please go ahead. If it's within my capability, I'll do my best to accommodate!"
Huang Youjie earnestly said, "If, and I an if, that day truly cos, I hope you can personally perform my heart transplant surgery."
"Can you grant this request?"
Lin Jie was taken aback, not expecting this request, and a vague unease surfaced within him.
He pondered for a mont, then asked concernedly, "Mr. Huang, are you facing any challenges in your life? If it's convenient, could you tell ? I believe I can still be of so help."
Huang Youjie smiled and said, "Thank you for your concern, but I'm doing fine. I just know, Expert Lin, that you're also an excellent cardiac surgeon, so I made this request."
"Can you agree?"
Lin Jie nodded and said, "I agree! When the ti cos, if I have ti, I will personally perform this surgery."
Huang Youjie nodded with satisfaction, got up, and said, "Thank you, Expert Lin. Sorry to bother you, goodbye!"
As he watched Huang Youjie turn and leave, Lin Jie's concern remained undiminished, and he couldn't help but call out, "Mr. Huang, no hurdle in life is insurmountable; there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel."
Huang Youjie waved his hand and left the apartnt lobby without looking back.
