Standing on the deck of the cruise ship, Mu Chenyan held a glass of wine and enjoyed the cool breeze hitting her face. She had her eyes closed and her lips tilted up in a smile. She looked relaxed at this mont as the sunshine hit her face, giving her an ethereal glow.
She felt the presence of another person coming behind her and asked, "Where did you go?"
Xia Zhao smiled to himself and stepped over to hug her from behind, "I was just having a phone call with soone."
"What happened? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," he answered.
Mu Chenyan felt sothing from his tone and opened her eyes. She tilted her head to look at his face. She pinched his chin and asked, "Speak! What is troubling you?"
"Nothing is troubling ," he answered. "But I am indeed wondering whether I should tell you about this or not."
"Why? It concerns ?"
"It does and at the sa ti, it doesn't," was his vague answer which made her frown at him.
"Just co clean. What is going on?"
Xia Zhao took a mont before speaking, "The old man of the Song family is dead."
Mu Chenyan's eyes widened in surprise, "What? What happened to him? Wasn't he hale and hearty?"
"He had a sudden stroke and was unable to get back up," answered Xia Zhao with a careless and heartless look.
"Why did he have a stroke all of a sudden? Did he learn that his wife had been cuckolding all this while?"
"How do you know that?"
Mu Chenyan's eyes popped open in shock, "What? Is it true? I was just joking. How did it beco true? What is this absurdity? You are not pulling my leg, are you?"
"No, I am telling you the truth," answered Xia Zhao. "Apparently, the old Mrs. Song had given her husband a lot of green hats over the years. She only cald down at this age."
"Start from the start," said Mu Chenyan. "I need to know everything."
Xia Zhao looked at her eager look and smiled to himself. He didn't think she'd be so interested in gossip about the Song family. "There are shocking things happening in the Song family right now. Each one can be written into a book. Let's start from the fact that apart from Song Xin'ai, all her siblings have nothing to do with the Song family at all."
Mu Chenyan coughed hard as she choked up on the wine she was sipping on. She felt like she couldn't swallow this wine anymore. She put the wine glass on the table and held Xia Zhao's hand, "Are you speaking the truth?"
"It's not even a secret anymore. The word has spread all over the news. How could it not be true?"
"Damn!" Mu Chenyan didn't think she could use any other word to describe her feelings right now. Who would have thought this? "That old man had been abusing his own daughter along with his wife all these years, not knowing that the people he supported had nothing to do with him. Serves him right for being blind!"
Xia Zhao nodded his head, "I also think it serves him right. There is more by the way."
"Hm? What else?"
"The old Mrs. Song had been accused of human trafficking and being involved with a dangerous syndicate, she had been arrested. Even at this age, she'd have to serve in prison."
Mu Chenyan took another mont to digest this news.
"The eldest son of the Song family had been accused of stealing the research results of his students and claiming them as his own. And he had also been involved with a few female students of his. And the second son is currently being investigated for tax evasion. The second daughter of the Song family has been detained for using her status to bully won. And..."
"Slow down," said Mu Chenyan as she was having difficulty keeping up with this exposé. "What is going on exactly? Why does it seem like soone is targeting the Song family? Or more like, soone wants all of them to go to hell?"
"It seems like that's the purpose," answered Xia Zhao.
"But who did it?" questioned Mu Chenyan. "Do you know?" she narrowed her eyes at Xia Zhao suspiciously. She didn't think he wouldn't know.
"It's Song Xin'ai."
"What? Who?" Mu Chenyan felt like she was hearing things. Or else, why would she hear the na of Song Xin'ai at this ti? Didn't she know what kind of a person her ex-sister-in-law was? How could she play this hard? "You must have been mistaken."
"There is no mistake. Especially since Dr. Song isn't even trying to hide the fact that she is the one after the life of the Song family. She has practically announced to the whole world that the Song family's ss has nothing to do with her so no one has to look at her face and try to suppress the matters of the Song family. She is clearly out for blood and she isn't holding back either. Currently, 90% of the Song family mbers are either being investigated or have lost money and are about to be thrown on the streets. This is vengeance."
"But why?" asked Mu Chenyan. "Why would she do this? Only because she hated her mother for loving her siblings but not her even though she was the only descendant of the Song family by blood?"
"I don't think it's that simple," answered Xia Zhao. "The kind of evidence she has seems like sothing that she had been collecting for years. It seems she knew for a long ti that her siblings had nothing to do with her."
"Then why go crazy at this ti?"
"Go back and ask her," replied Xia Zhao.
"You think she'll tell ?"
"You won't know unless you ask," answered Xia Zhao. "And if nothing else, you can go and show your support."
"Right. You ask soone to suppress her involvent. Don't let the public opinion get out of hand. There is no shortage of pedantic people in the world. And even if she is a national treasure level researcher, she'd still be poked for doing such a thing. I don't want her to get swept up in the storm."
"Relax. I already made sure of it. No one can drag her or drag Xiang family into this ss of the Song family."
Mu Chenyan hugged his waist and gave him a smile, "Indeed. You are still dependable. I do have a good eye."
