Chapter 480: The Start of the Championship

“Do you prefer warm beer or cold?”

Axxa asked with a serious expression.

“…”

Kiernan stayed quiet, and he kept his poker face—however, he was very close to frowning and asking, “What kind of question is that?”

He took a quick glance at the other general managers, thinking that they would have so kind of response to the weird question, but no.

They were very serious-looking, as if that was a real and important question.

“Cold…?”

Kiernan said with hesitation.

“Mm, no more questions from .”

Axxa leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs.

“Does anyone else have questions?”

Gaspard asked and looked around the table—no one showed any interest—so he then turned to Kiernan and said.

“Thank you for your ti. You’re free to leave.”

The elf girl looked surprised and looked over to the general managers—she expected them to ask more than that.

“Oh, alright.”

Kiernan stood up, bowed to the thirteen powerful general managers, and stepped out of the room with many eyes following him.

‘Did I fail the interview? I wonder. They didn’t ask much from . I think that was only two questions.’

“Psst, how did it go?”

Joanna asked him as he passed by her chair.

“Not sure.”

Kiernan said, pressed on the elevator button, stepped inside, and watched the doors close behind him.

“Oh…”

Joanna gulped and looked to the door, which opened imdiately after, and the elf girl looked across the hallway.

“Joanna yer?”

“Here!”

Joanna raised her arm, stood up, and ran towards the door—she soon entered, and the rest of the interviewers continued waiting for their turn.

Not even a minute later, the doors opened, and Joanna, teary-eyed, ran out of the room, smashed the elevators buttons, and left the building as quickly as she could.

The refrigerator door opened, and bright light illuminated Julian’s face—he took a bottle of soda from inside and then closed the door.

When he arrived back at the living room, Karma was already sitting on the couch, looking at the television that was currently showing advertisents.

“Isn’t the welco ceremony supposed to start soon?”

Julian asked as he checked his wristwatch and placed the bottle of soda right beside a bowl of popcorn on the table.

He then sat beside Karma and impatiently tapped his feet against the floor.

“In a minute or two.”

Karma said, and rubbed his hands to warm them up, as they had turned cold from nervousness.

The big event was about to start—the Junior Martial Arts Championship—and it was the highlight of both his and his son’s lives.

Never in his wildest dreams did he think that one day his son would be competing at such a prestigious event.

“It’s starting!”

Julian exclaid, and on the television, the global broadcast of the event started, and it began with a shot of the beautiful God City’s stadium.

“That stadium is as big as Irio!”

He said.

“Within that stadium, there have been World Championships held and even World Fighting League matches. Many tis, the strongest in the world has been decided under that roof.”

Karma said, took a few pieces of popcorn, and tossed them into his mouth.

At that mont, the voice of the comntator echoed through the speakers of the television.

“Welco to the start of the Junior Martial Arts Championship…”

That voice echoed in every household in Irio, and families—people old and young—gathered around the televisions.

Beautiful and mind-blowing performances started—the dark sky of God Island exploded with fireworks, and the children of the island flew through the air.

They touched the sparks of the fireworks, grabbed them with their small hands, and threw them back into the sky, creating a spectacular display of light and color.

Children of Irio had never seen anything like that—their eyes were wide and shocked—and they asked their parents why they couldn’t fly.

Their parents only smiled awkwardly and rubbed the heads of their children.

Doom! Doom! Doom! Doom!

Thousands of drums beat in the distance—it sounded majestic—and the spectators inside God City’s stadium felt their chairs rumble beneath them.

It was as if an army of giants was approaching them.

Doom! Doom! Doom! Doom!

“…”

Julian and Karma watched silently at the performances—eating and drinking to bypass ti—and then, the performance ended.

“And here we have our representatives from 321 countries!”

When they heard that, the hearts in their chests started beating, and then, through many entrances, young n and won stepped out amidst roaring applause.

They carried flagpoles of the sa height, each with a different country’s flag flying proudly at the top.

“Can you see New Rakuya’s flag anywhere?”

Julian asked.

“No… Wait… There!”

Karma pointed at the small dot in the television—it was so small—but New Rakuya’s flag was unique, so it was still possible to spot it.

“It’s Kiernan!”

Julian shouted, but then the broadcast showed a different angle, so they couldn’t see Kiernan anywhere anymore.

The representatives circled a small area a few tis, and they stepped back inside.

“Ah… We barely saw him.”

Julian sighed heavily.

“They were only showing the strongest countries!”

He clicked his tongue.

“That’s just how it is. They couldn’t possibly show every country individually, or the show would take an entire day.

“It is up to Kiernan to do well in the championship so the broadcast team takes notice of him and shows him on the big screen.”

Karma said.

“And now… we have a special showmatch in our hand—the league that has been conquering the world of martial arts, World Fighting League, is taking part in this year’s Junior Martial Arts Championship!

“Competing in the showmatch, the thirteen teams of the World Fighting League have all sent one representative to show the strength of their organization!

“Please, enjoy!”

The comntator said passionately—when people at ho heard her, they felt a surge of excitent and passion.

It was the power of the comntator’s martial ability—Voice of Empowernt—that could instill excitent and inspiration in all who listened.

“A showmatch between World Fighting League matches? That is… shocking.”

Karma said in surprise.

“Have you ever gone to watch one of those matches in person? I did it with my family, and it was freaking insane.”

Julian asked.

“I did… once. I was a little bit of a rebellious child, and I escaped from the dojo, where I was training at the ti, with a friend of mine… a guy called Herodes.

“We snuck to watch the match and then returned before anyone could find out—but we were actually shown in the broadcast as part of the audience, so we got caught, haha…”

Karma chuckled at the old tis, but once again, when he rembered Herodes, a sour feeling filled his stomach.
