Wu Power finished speaking, and the room fell silent.
A mont later, Chen Ling looked at him. "You’ve been reading a lot more now, you’re all about the big principles. I can’t argue with you."
Having said that, she got up and left the room, slamming the door behind her.
"Ah." Wu Power sighed and lowered his head.
After a while, Wu Wenhua also stood up and patted his son’s shoulder.
"Maybe what you said is right. Actually, when I see those praises for you online, thinking that they’re talking about my son, deep down I feel quite proud; I just don’t dare to tell your mom."
"Ha ha." Wu Power looked up at his father and laughed, "Your son is pretty aweso, right?"
"That’s it!" Wu Wenhua gave his son a thumbs-up, then turned to leave the room, "I’ll go check on your mom."
Wu Wenhua found Chen Ling outside the police station’s main entrance.
"What are you thinking about?" Wu Wenhua asked from behind her.
Chen Ling turned around, her eyes sowhat red, and said irritably, "About your son who causes constant worry!"
Wu Wenhua took a step forward and wrapped his arms around her waist, chuckling. "Isn’t he your son too?"
Chen Ling, a bit embarrassed, looked around and smacked Wu Wenhua’s chest. "What are you doing? This is a police station."
Wu Wenhua: "So? There’s nothing illegal about hugging my own wife."
Chen Ling broke free, "Enough, you’re not trying to speak well of your son again, are you? What did you promise on the way here? We agreed to be on the sa side this ti; are you flipping sides so quickly?"
Wu Wenhua spread his hands, "I haven’t even started talking yet, have I?"
Chen Ling glared at him, "Then tell , with your son’s temper, as long as he continues Martial Arts Training and does anything related to Martial Arts, do you think he’ll be able to keep his cool if sothing similar happens in the future?"
Wu Wenhua said, "I think, ’A leopard can’t change its spots.’ Our son’s nature is already like that. If you force him to behave and be honest, he may handle it for a while, but not for a lifeti. Who knows, he might suddenly explode one day, and that could be even scarier."
Chen Ling lost for words, suddenly felt that Wu Wenhua made a lot of sense. She knew too well the stubbornness in Wu Power; if she really forced him to do sothing, it would only last a while, she couldn’t possibly stay by her son’s side for his entire life.
"So what do you suggest we do?" Chen Ling asked angrily.
Wu Wenhua said, "I think, it’s better to guide than to block. Don’t suddenly stop him from practicing Martial Arts or doing anything related to Martial Arts. Let’s discuss and wait until he graduates. We can let him find a stable job close to ho. That will give us so peace of mind."
Chen Ling, still unsatisfied, could only glare at Wu Wenhua, "It’s still your fault! I said not to let him train in Martial Arts, and you were the one supporting him. Now look, he’s gotten so skilled he can’t sit still. Neither of you gives peace of mind!"
...
At 6 p.m., since it was New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day was a holiday, there were not many on duty in the police station, making it seem a bit deserted.
"Bang, bang, bang." There was a knocking at the door; Wu Power thought it was the food delivery and went to open it, but it was Wu Wenhua holding a few bags of food in one hand and a bottle of white liquor in the other.
"Dad?"
"I specifically asked Captain Hong. He said tomorrow’s a holiday, so tonight we can gather here." Wu Wenhua smiled and then held up the bottle of liquor, signaling, "Co on, let’s have a drink, the two of us."
Wu Power was surprised; he hadn’t expected Hong Wenbo to treat him so favorably. Actually, according to normal procedures, he was under criminal detention and should have been taken to the detention center. However, Hong Wenbo said to wait; wait until Wu Power’s parents had visited, before sending him to the detention center, as visiting wasn’t convenient there, and also because it would upset the parents to see him in that state.
Although Wu Power didn’t know why Hong Wenbo treated him so favorably, he made a ntal note of the kindness.
Wu Power took the bags of food from his father’s hand, "What about mom?"
"Your mom’s dealing with sothing."
"What is it?"
"You’ll know in a bit."
Father and son sat down in the room.
"Co on, fill them up." Wu Wenhua took out two paper cups from the food bag and spread out the purchased marinated dishes on the table.
Wu Power filled both paper cups with white liquor and handed one to Wu Wenhua.
"Co on, let’s have a drink first." Wu Wenhua took the initiative to raise his glass.
The father and son sipped their drinks and began eating.
"I see you’re quite well-known online now and have beco a coach at a boxing gym. What are your plans for the future?" Wu Wenhua asked.
Wu Power, "Dad, I was just about to talk to you about this. Actually, since I started live streaming online and gained so fa, I signed with a company..."
Wu Power gradually explained his career developnts to his father but omitted the details about the system and the thirty million yuan investnt, ntioning only that he had made so money and started a company with his disciple.
"A signing bonus of two million? An endorsent fee of four million two hundred thousand? You’ve even started a company and beca the chairman?"
Each piece of information Wu Power shared was more surprising than the last for Wu Wenhua. When he saw the news online, he thought his son’s championship victory and rise to fa were impressive enough, but his son had far exceeded his expectations.
"Why didn’t you tell anything about this at ho?" Wu Wenhua was a bit angry.
Wu Power quickly offered a toast, "How could I dare to tell? You know Mom’s views, she sees competitions as just fighting with others, wouldn’t she be angry?"
"And you thought you could keep hiding it?" Wu Wenhua gave him a stern look.
Wu Power laughed and said, "I thought I would wait until I achieved sothing before telling you, so you could accept it more easily."
Wu Wenhua nodded, "You certainly have achieved a lot, you’ve earned more than what your mother and I made in our whole lives."
Wu Power’s parents both worked at a state-owned enterprise in Shudu. Wu Wenhua was a senior engineer, and Chen Ling was a team leader in the human resources departnt. Neither held very high positions; and while their incos were stable, their lifeti earnings were still less than what Wu Power made from a single advertisent endorsent.
"Hehe, that’s because you taught well," Wu Power lifted his glass and made another toast.
"Dad, here’s a card with three hundred thousand yuan in it, the password is Mom’s birthday. Give it to Mom later. If there’s anything at ho that needs money, or if you want to buy sothing, just use this," Wu Power said as he took out a bank card that he had soone deliver specifically and pushed it across the table to Wu Wenhua.
Wu Wenhua frowned and pushed it back, "We don’t need much money at ho, and your mother and I both have savings. You’ve just started a business, and you’re in need of money; take it back."
Wu Power knew it would be like this, so he hadn’t given too much, "I’m quite well-funded now, and soon I’ll be making money continuously. Keep these three hundred thousand and don’t worry about saving for . There will be more later, three million, even thirty million."
Before Wu Wenhua could reply, Wu Power pulled out another card, "Dad, this card has thirty thousand yuan, and the password is your birthday. This is just for you, as a sign of my filial piety. I’ll keep it a secret for you."
"This..." Wu Wenhua was sowhat amused yet exasperated.
"Thoughtful, right?" Wu Power winked at his father.
"You little rascal," Wu Wenhua scolded with a laugh, but naturally slipped the thirty-thousand-yuan card into his pocket.
"So that ans you’re planning to be an entrepreneur and open a boxing gym?" Wu Wenhua asked.
Wu Power nodded, "Yes."
Wu Wenhua, "Then will you still compete?"
Wu Power, "Yes, after all, the company mainly relies on my fa now."
Wu Wenhua frowned slightly, "Combat sports can be dangerous, can’t they?"
Wu Power laughed, "Dad, you can check online. The risk in combat sports is actually lower than many other sports."
Wu Wenhua, "Save those words for your mother later."
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"It must be your mother," Wu Wenhua said, getting up to open the door.
Indeed, Chen Ling walked in carrying a food container, glanced disapprovingly at Wu Power, and with a snap put the container on the table.
"Mom, what’s this?" Wu Power asked with a smile.
"These are the shrimp dumplings your mother went out of her way to buy for you because you love them," Wu Wenhua said.
"Thanks, Mom!" Wu Power obsequiously went over to give Chen Ling a shoulder massage.
Chen Ling brushed away Wu Power’s hands, "Hurry up and eat before they get cold."
Wu Power and Wu Wenhua shared a smile. This New Year’s Eve was turning out to be quite flavorful.
