"In my eyes, he is the true superhero!"
When these words were spoken, the atmosphere on set changed instantly.
This talk show was rely a variety show, and Jia Wei’er suddenly introducing this interactive segnt was quite common in many variety shows—having female audience mbers choose their favorite male celebrities, or having male audience mbers choose female celebrities, etc., was well received by the audience.
Everyone approached it in a playful manner. If the host handled it well, they could even joke around and liven up the atmosphere. The chosen celebrities wouldn’t mind the outco too much, of course, since everyone has different tastes, and the choice of a few audience mbers wouldn’t influence much, as long as the disparity wasn’t too great, maintaining face was all that mattered.
However, when the second girl publicly stated her reason for choosing Eric, the vibe of this choice ga changed instantly.
Her reasons were quite sufficient—Eric was a soldier with distinguished rits who truly had contributed a lot to the country and the people. If one were to like soone, why wouldn’t they like him?
But the real subtlety lay in the fact that, after her words were spoken, the positions of the next three girls, who hadn’t made their choices yet, beca quite awkward.
It was just ant to be a ga, but suddenly it touched on patriotism. To make a choice now—if you didn’t pick Eric and instead picked Wu, what would others think of you?
One could have plenty of reasons and articulate them beautifully, but who could guarantee there wouldn’t be whispers and gossip?
Moreover, the most crucial point was that, to the audience present, Wu was a foreigner.
One was a role model soldier who had contributed a lot to the country and the people, and the other was just a recently famous foreigner. Was there even a choice? Anyone with a bit of emotional intelligence knew how to choose at this mont.
In the studio, as soon as he heard that phrase, Chen Gang imdiately thought of these things.
He looked out of the glass window towards the broadcasting hall, and sure enough, without much hesitation, the third girl presented her flowers to Eric, who graciously accepted the rose and gave her a hug in return.
In contrast, Wu, who was smiling at the side, appeared slightly awkward.
Whether it was showing off physical experints on stage, or verbal sparring, or even testing quick reactions, Chen Gang was full of confidence in Wu and believed that Wu wouldn’t be disadvantaged or embarrassed; however, in this situation, it was beyond Wu’s control, no matter how capable he was—for the audience, he was ultimately a foreigner.
Chen Gang looked anxiously at the chubby director on the other side, who was smiling smugly and cast a gleeful glance at Chen Gang.
"Shaless!" Chen Gang cursed.
By this mont, he had realized that the second girl onstage probably had been arranged by the production team ahead of ti, yet he couldn’t understand why they would do such a thing.
To embarrass Wu? To hype up Eric’s fa? Eric was an active duty soldier, not an artist trying to debut. What was the point of promoting his fa?
With such behavior, the rights for broadcast were likely not going to be negotiated successfully, or perhaps they had never intended to discuss the broadcast rights from the beginning?
His mind was a ss, a tangled ss; Chen Gang couldn’t sort out his thoughts and only looked towards Wu onstage with a gaze filled with regret and apology—if only he had known, he wouldn’t have agreed to this interview...
Nonetheless, the live broadcast was still ongoing, and the interaction onstage continued.
The first four girls all chose to give their flowers to Eric. By the ti it ca to the last girl, everyone had guessed the result, yet there was still a slight change.
"I’d like to sing a song for the person I like, can I?"
This was a blonde girl dressed in a backless red spaghetti strap dress, her skin as pale as milk exposed under the lights, appearing especially enticing.
"Surprise!" Jia Wei’er said with an exaggerated smile, "Of course no problem, what’s your na?"
"My na is Karina," the blonde girl said.
"OK, Karina, please start your performance," Jia Wei’er handed her the microphone.
"Um, can I play and sing at the sa ti?" Karina asked boldly.
"You an play the piano?" Jia Wei’er was sowhat surprised at her request.
"Yes, I’ve learned for a while, I wonder if I could have a chance to showcase a bit?" Karina nodded.
"Sure, the piano is over there," Jia Wei’er pointed to a corner below the stage where a piano was located and a pianist was sitting.
"Go ahead, let’s hear what kind of piece you’d like to dedicate to your superhero."
The spotlight shone on the piano in the corner, and the cara also panned over.
The male pianist smiled, stood up, and gave his seat to Karina.
Karina first bowed to Wu and Eric onstage and then, amid the applause of the audience, sat down to begin her performance.
The sound of the piano rose, and soothing music entered people’s ears. Wu had not listened to many English songs, but he felt this prelude was sowhat familiar—it must be a classic song.
"As long as you love ."
The gentle voice emanated from Karina’s throat, and as soon as this lyric was sung, the scene beca a bit excited.
"As long as you love " was a hit song by Justin Bieber. Although it was a song popular about seven or eight years ago, it still didn’t feel outdated when listened to now. Instead, it felt even more charming.
"We’re under pressure
"Seven billion people in the world trying to fit in
Keep it together"
Karina must have been trained in singing; at this mont, she played and sang very proficiently. The piano sound accompanied the singing like babbling water, flowing through the broadcast hall.
Her rendition deliberately slowed down the pace, carrying a touch of lingering affection with a hint of slight lancholy.
Throughout her performance, she occasionally looked at soone onstage, her eyes brimming with emotion.
...
"Who is she looking at?"
"It feels like she’s looking at Eric."
"It seems they know each other—look at Eric’s expression."
"Wow, there must be a story between them!"
...
The audience watching the live broadcast noticed Karina’s gaze and Eric’s expression, and they all started gossiping.
"It’s all I want baby,
as long as you love ,
...
As long as you love ~"
With the last line sung, thunderous applause erupted at the scene.
"You sang wonderfully!"
"Sounds great!"
"That must be professional."
...
The audience was whispering among themselves.
"Please, co to the stage," Jia Wei’er invited Karina to the stage as he applauded.
Karina stopped playing, her eyes slightly red.
She stood up and walked towards the stage, then with one hand holding the microphone and the other holding a bouquet of roses, she walked straight to Eric.
"Eric, would you be my boyfriend?" Karina asked.
"OH!" Jia Wei’er clasped his head with both hands, his face one of utter disbelief.
The audience below was also in a frenzy, with murmurs and cheers erupting.
This was a plot twist no one had anticipated.
Eric looked startled, montarily unable to speak.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Jia Wei’er stepped in between them, "Can soone explain to ? Did you two know each other before?"
Karina nodded: "We were together before."
"Wow!"
Not just Jia Wei’er, the audience also exclaid in astonishnt.
"Then you broke up?" Jia Wei’er asked.
Karina replied, "Yes, later my family disagreed with us being together, so we were forced to separate."
Jia Wei’er frowned: "Why?"
"Because of my job."
Eric, who had been silent, spoke; his emotions had now stabilized.
"It’s because my job is too dangerous, you never know when there might be an accident, so her parents disagreed with us being together."
Jia Wei’er nodded: "Considering it from the parents’ perspective, that seems reasonable."
Eric looked at Karina: "So, I don’t bla her."
Karina looked back at him, tears unconsciously flowing down: "But every day after we separated, I kept thinking about you, I was extrely worried when I couldn’t reach you for several days, that’s when I realized, I can’t lose you."
"Eric, that song I just sang was what I wanted to tell you, I’ve figured it out, this ti, even if the whole world tries to stop us, I will not let go of your hand!"
No wonder she wanted to sing "As long as you love ." Everyone in the audience had this thought cross their mind.
Combining their previous story and recalling the song Karina had just sung, many felt moved.
"It’s not easy at all."
"Quite touching, these soldiers who guard us have it tough; they deserve such a love!"
"I hope they can be together!"
"Be together!!"
...
In the comnts, wishes for them to be together filled the screen.
On stage, Eric hesitated a bit, "But, your parents..."
"Trust , I will definitely persuade my parents!" Karina said decisively.
"Now, there’s only one thing you need to think about: Are you still willing to accept ?"
Karina looked at Eric, moved, and the audience below started calling out.
Regardless of the country, such plots always get the crowd excited, because everyone holds hope and goodwill towards beautiful things.
"I am willing."
Unsurprisingly, Eric said those words.
Karina’s tears brimd over and like the return of swallows, she flew into Eric’s embrace.
Amid the cheers of the audience, the two kissed.
Western countries are relatively more open, and at this mont, being live broadcasted, in front of who knows how many people, the two shared a French kiss that lasted three minutes, much to many viewers’ delight.
At this ti, besides a few people, no one was paying attention to Wu Li, standing on the side.
From the flower-giving segnt, Eric had beco the absolute protagonist on stage, with Wu Li standing beside, rather redundantly.
