While Matteo waited outside, Alia quickly went to get herself checked up by a doctor. Matteo wasn’t going to take any chances with Alia’s health, especially in her sensitive condition. What happened to Emline could well happen to Alia, if she were not careful.

Thankfully, the doctor who examined her said that everything was fine, but she should refrain from feeling stressed. When Alia heard it, she wanted to snort.

Well, if she got proof of Emline’s lies, she would not feel stressed.

With that in mind, she went back to the ergency room, where Matteo was still sitting with a blank look on his face. He stood up when he saw her, frantic.

"Alia! How are things? What did the doctor say?"

"Only for to be less stressed," Alia said dryly.

At her words, Matteo shot the surgery room a nasty glance, clearly rembering why Alia was stressed to begin with. Alia tugged him back into the hard plastic seats and decided to give him a more in-depth account of all that she overheard.

What happened in the office was simply too hectic, and back then, Alia could only summarize everything in one sentence― and Matteo himself was in disbelief and panic when he received the call.

After she finished narrating everything that had transpired, Matteo’s face had brightened imperceptibly, even as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. He had not much love for his brother, but Alia had enough for the both of them. She had been completely blindsided by his betrayal, and the wounds cut deep. Matteo didn’t want to downplay her feelings.

It wasn’t her fault she was kind, and his brother was a selfish scher who couldn’t even sche properly. If this was another family’s drama, he would be scoffing at the stupidity of Aiden’s character. But since this was his half-brother, he was disappointed, but not surprised.

"I suppose I should be glad that my brother is too stupid to plot effectively," Matteo said with a sigh. "It makes our life easier. Things will be less stressful from now on."

As if he had cursed himself, they heard the loud clacking of heels. Matteo saw the intruders and sighed heavily. He had spoken too soon.

"Oh, Emline!" Catherine wailed loudly enough to draw every eye in her direction. "I can’t believe this happened to you!"

Next to her, Annalise was similarly upset at the news that befell her only daughter. To add insult to injury, it wasn’t even Matteo who told her the news. She heard it from Catherine, who heard it from Aiden! If her good friend hadn’t inford her, she wouldn’t have known her poor baby was lying in the hospital, nearly dying.

Just the very thought caused tears to form in her eyes. Annalise’s face, usually made up to perfection, was lting at the edges. Alia uncharitably thought of wicked witches in fairy tales that lted when splashed with water.

Their faces brightened when they saw Matteo waiting, but their expressions turned thunderous the mont they saw Alia sitting next to him.

"You! You did this! You hard my daughter!" Annalise hissed out, upset. She wanted to punch this vixen for everything she had done to her precious baby, but she wasn’t mad enough to land a hand on her while Matteo was watching.

To her surprise, another man stood in front of her, shielding Alia from her vitriolic words and vicious stares.

"Kindly leave Miss Kentwood alone," Sean said politely. He had been on standby in the corridor, giving his employers privacy, but he ca over when he saw that these won attempted to hurt Alia.

Catherine and Annalise blanched at his muscles, and a gentle push from him had already caused them to toddle on their high heels.

Alia said a ntal note of apology to her baby; it can’t be good for them to be exposed to such toxic substances as these two won. Who knew what kind of trauma it would cause?

As if summoned by their desperate wailing, the light of the surgical theater finally went dim. The wait was over. The surgeon erged with tired eyes, and she went to Catherine first. "Excuse , but are you the mother of the patient?"

Clearly, this surgeon did not keep up with high society! Catherine’s face twisted and shook her head in disapproval.

"I’m her future mother-in-law! This is her mother." She gestured to Annalise, who darted closer and grabbed the surgeon’s hands frantically.

"Yes, I’m her mother," Annalise said quickly. "How is my baby girl and her baby? Are they both―"

"We have managed to stabilize the fetus and the mother for now," the surgeon said, and everyone present heaved a sigh of relief, admittedly for different reasons.

Matteo and Alia were glad that they would have the chance to clear Matteo’s na for good, while Catherine and Annalise had no idea what transpired earlier.

"However, she has lost quite a bit of blood and she’ll need transfusions. Unfortunately, our hospital is currently running short, and it’ll take ti for us to contact other hospitals," the doctor said. "Will any of you be willing to donate? The patient has blood type O."

"I will!" Annalise declared passionately before her face fell at the realization, "Oh no, wait, I can’t. I’m blood type AB."

"What about your husband?" the surgeon asked with a frown on her face.

Annalise bit her lip. "He’s blood type A."

"I can donate," Catherine offered. "I have O blood."

"Excellent, please follow the nurse down the hallway to sign the forms," the surgeon said, and Annalise grabbed Catherine’s hands in thanks, nearly weeping.

"I cannot thank you enough! Anything you need, I promise I will pay you back―"

"Of course I have to save Emline, she’s my goddaughter! She’s carrying my future grandson!" Catherine exclaid, and both of them hurried out.

Even in such a tense situation, they did not forget to shoot Alia nasty glances. Alia could only marvel at their priorities.

Alia kept her eyes glued on the two older won until they completely vanished from view. Only then did she huff out in relief. They were vile and just being around them went against every doctor’s advice Alia had ever received about abstaining from stress.

When she turned to Matteo, she was surprised to see him leaning forward, his finger massaging his chin thoughtfully.

"What is it?" Alia asked. "Are you not feeling well?"

She wouldn’t be surprised. So much had happened in the last hour that even Alia herself was starting to feel slightly giddy. She felt she needed to lie down for a bit.

Matteo raised his eyebrows a little as he snapped back to attention. He then turned his glance to Alia and shook his head.

"It’s not that," he said. His lips were pursed tightly into a line. Finally, he separated them and said, "Did I mishear, or did Annalise say that she and Benjamin Hawthorne have AB and A blood types respectively?"
