Without thinking much at the mont, Lin Xing paused his training and ran to the communications office.
"This is Lin Xing."
The mont he took the call, he heard his wife sobbing uncontrollably on the other end.
"Lin Xing, what should I do? Guoguo is missing. She’s missing..."
Lin Xing’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly asked, "How did she go missing?"
"Tell the situation in detail."
Soon, through his wife’s tear-choked narration, Lin Xing roughly understood the situation.
In that mont of realization, even soone as tough as Lin Xing, who wouldn’t shed tears on the battlefield, found his eyes turning red.
"A Wang, you’ve encountered traffickers." Lin Xing painfully expressed his analysis.
He understood that his wife had encountered traffickers and there’s an eighty to ninety percent chance that Guoguo was abducted by that elderly couple in disguise.
Lin Xing regretted it. Knowing his wife was rather naïve and unsophisticated about worldly matters, how could he trust her to bring Guoguo alone by train due to his busy schedule?
Lin Xing hailed from the countryside and was the second child in a family where neither parents nor siblings were very fond of him.
Therefore, he left that disappointing ho early to join the army.
His wife, Zhang Shuwan, well, it happened during one rare occasion when he returned ho. Lin Xing’s parents wanted him to marry the daughter of a textile factory director in exchange for two job slots for his brother and sister-in-law. He resisted, and only then did the neighbor grandma introduce him to A Wang.
A Wang was a city girl, the only daughter, much cherished by her parents.
When A Wang reached the age to consider marriage, her parents had only one demand: that soone would treat A Wang well.
Before Lin Xing was introduced to them, A Wang had t many suitors, but none were suitable.
When Lin Xing appeared, Zhang Family parents were very satisfied with him, and he and A Wang mutually liked each other.
Soon after, they got married.
Unexpectedly, just a year into marriage, her parents died in an industrial accident at the factory, leaving A Wang as a martyr’s child, yet also becoming a child without parents.
At that ti, many relatives from the Zhang family wanted to take advantage, even Lin Xing’s parents, brother, and sister-in-law entertained such thoughts.
It was Lin Xing who, with a tough stance, protected her.
It was Lin Xing’s decisive and even ruthless actions at that ti that prevented others from having ulterior motives.
Lin Xing knew, since his wife A Wang was simple-hearted, he must protect her well.
Until now, they were married for seven years.
But they only had one daughter, Guoguo, whom they cherished dearly.
Previously, A Wang and Guoguo lived with him in the military base.
But a few months ago, he was transferred to the Northwest Military Region and hadn’t adapted yet, so the mother and daughter didn’t move with him.
Now that he had gained a firm footing here, he dared to have them join him.
Originally, he was planning to take leave and personally pick up A Wang and Guoguo from their hotown.
However, he couldn’t get leave, and the training was tight.
When A Wang ntioned she could take Guoguo on the train by herself, Lin Xing hesitated but eventually agreed.
At this mont, Lin Xing wished to slap himself.
Knowing his wife’s nature, how could he trust her to bring Guoguo alone?
It was his fault for having a fluke mindset.
On the other end of the line, Zhang Shuwan went blank after confirming her daughter Guoguo was abducted, then broke down crying.
She thought she had lost Guoguo, and if they couldn’t find her, she would go with Guoguo.
Now, Lin Xing couldn’t care less about the training. Aware of the urgency in finding soone, he comforted his wife with a few words, hung up, quickly got his leave approved by the leadership, and decided to leave the military region to find his daughter.
Unexpectedly, just as his car was about to leave the base, he heard a little soldier shouting behind him: "Commander Lin! Commander Lin! Your daughter has been found!"
Found?!
Lin Xing nearly jumped out of the car, grabbed the little soldier’s arms, and asked before being guided once again to the communications office to take Sheng Zexi’s call.
Lin Xing knew who Sheng Zexi was; he was a renowned soldier king in the Northwest Military Region.
Not long ago, he reported his marriage and accompanied his family, applying for housing, which Lin Xing also applied for.
Their houses were connected and right next to each other.
On the other end, Sheng Zexi said he was traveling by train with his wife, who happened to notice sothing suspicious about an elderly couple, scenting sothing like dicine on a child, and suspected the two were human traffickers.
Ultimately, he cooperated with the train staff to apprehend those traffickers.
He also saved that child.
"The girl nad Guoguo looks about four years old; she looks a lot like you. Is she your daughter?"
"Yes, yes, she is my daughter, Guoguo..." Lin Xing was so excited that tears almost fell, and he promptly relayed the story his wife had told him about their daughter being abducted.
"Guoguo is with , and my love and I will bring her to the military district, probably arriving by tomorrow," Sheng Zexi said.
"Thank you, Commander Sheng, really, thank you and your wife." Though Lin Xing wasn’t very eloquent, he could only express his gratitude.
But he knew this was a life-saving grace from Commander Sheng and his wife for Guoguo, a favor he must repay in the future.
Thinking of Guoguo being rescued, Lin Xing felt relieved and imdiately called his wife to share the news.
Told her not to stay there but to get directly to the military district.
Upon hearing that Guoguo was saved, Zhang Shuwan was overwheld with joy and tearfully grateful to the Sheng Zexi couple, whom she hadn’t yet t.
Also, reminded of her husband’s words that their houses were connected as neighbors, Zhang Shuwan thought, she must thank the Sheng couple properly and often engage with Commander Sheng’s wife.
After confirming the call, Sheng Zexi imdiately returned to the train to convey the news to Gu Jia Ning.
Gu Jia Ning didn’t expect that the child they saved was actually their neighbor’s kid; fate was indeed miraculous.
Soon, the train started again.
Heading northwest, the temperature rapidly decreased as the train moved, and Sheng Zexi hastily dressed Gu Jia Ning in thicker cotton clothes, fearing she might catch a cold.
In the afternoon, Gu Jia Ning inadvertently looked up and saw the white snowflakes drifting outside the window.
"It’s snowing." Gu Jia Ning saw the snowflakes through the window.
Sheng Zexi sat beside her, looking out together.
"Yes, when we reach the military district, the snow will be even thicker."
In a while, when the heavy snow seals the mountains, movent will be almost impossible. People can’t hunt in the mountains, and transporting supplies becos extrely difficult.
During that ti, whatever supplies co into the military district supply center, they get snatched up imdiately.
at becos exceedingly scarce.
Sheng Zexi was very grateful that the Gu Family prepared so many supplies and food for Ningning.
They should have no problem getting through those two months of snow-sealed mountain life.
