Ji Yunhuan went to the Li Family’s ho. The door to the Li Family’s house was open. She pushed the door open, about to step inside when she heard Li’s mother speaking inside. "You really want to marry her? She’s a divorced woman; how could she possibly deserve you? If you want to find a partner, you can find anyone. There are so many young girls out there, why do you insist on making things difficult for yourself?"

"Mom," Li Longtao said, "she’s great. I just like her."

Hearing them discussing her, Ji Yunhuan felt inconvenient to enter and waited outside for a mont.

Li’s mother was very unhappy with Ji Yunhuan. "Does she have children?"

"There’s one, I think!"

"That’s it, then. A woman’s heart is always with her child. Look at her; she even has a child. How could she possibly settle down with you? Moreover, other people didn’t want her. Who knows what might be wrong with her?"

Li Longtao simply didn’t bother to speak, letting his mother talk.

Ji Yunhuan listened, feeling very uncomfortable.

She knocked on the door and then walked in.

Li’s mother looked up and saw her, a flash of displeasure in her eyes.

Ji Yunhuan said, "I saw the door wasn’t locked, so I ca in."

Li’s mother ca from a small town. It was relatively quiet there, and they rarely locked the door when soone was ho, so she had this habit.

Ji Yunhuan had bought so things before coming. She placed everything on the table. "These are things needed for the New Year."

Li Longtao wheeled himself over. "Carrying so many things alone must have been tiring, right?"

"What’s tiring about it? I was worried it might be inconvenient for you all, so I bought most of it." Just after Ji Yunhuan finished speaking, Li’s mother walked over, looking at the fresh fish Ji Yunhuan had bought. "There are still two days until New Year’s. Why buy fish now? How are we supposed to eat it then?"

Seeing her blatant look of disdain, Ji Yunhuan realized that Li’s mother didn’t even try to hide her dislike for her anymore. She explained, "The fish is for you to eat today. Soone will deliver fresh fish for the New Year, so there’s no need to worry."

Hearing this, Li’s mother’s face showed so embarrassnt. "Really? You’re having soone deliver fish on New Year’s? Will they really do that?"

"As long as you have money, there’s nothing in this world that can’t be done." Ji Yunhuan looked at Li Longtao. "I’ll leave now. I won’t co over for New Year. You all enjoy it."

She wasn’t without a temper herself. With Li’s mother detesting her so much, there was no need to make things unpleasant.

Li’s mother didn’t say a word to keep her, wishing she would leave imdiately. However, Li Longtao, seeing her about to leave, followed her out. "Yunhuan, stay and have a al. You bought so many things; it must have been hard on you."

She had stayed late into the night yesterday. Her eager departure today, without speaking to his mother, clearly ant she had overheard their conversation.

Thinking about her anger made Li Longtao feel guilty.

"No need." Ji Yunhuan gave him a look. "Take care of yourself. Don’t worry about ."

She didn’t want to spend the New Year here, for fear everyone would be unhappy.

"But..."

"Sister Wen Nuan asked to spend the holiday at her place, so you don’t need to worry about ." Smiling, Ji Yunhuan finished speaking and walked out, closing the door behind her.

Li Longtao turned back to face his mother. "Why did you have to say that? If it weren’t for her, would I be where I am today? Saying things like this, how could it not hurt?"

"I said it because I wanted her to hear it. So what? She’s a divorced woman and still wants to be with my son."

"..." Li Longtao didn’t bother to reply.

Ji Yunhuan went to Wen Nuan’s place. The restaurant planned to close for the day.

Seeing Ji Yunhuan enter with a sowhat unhappy expression, Wen Nuan asked, "What’s wrong? Weren’t you supposed to spend the New Year with your fiancé and not co these days?"

"Forget it. I’ll spend it at your place."

"Not happy?" Wen Nuan keenly sensed sothing was off.

"I’m okay." She really wasn’t in a good mood.

Wen Nuan said, "What? Did Li Longtao dare to make you angry?"

"It wasn’t him."

"His mother?"

Wen Nuan, a sharp-eyed woman, was soone Ji Yunhuan admired. So she didn’t hide it from her. "His mother thinks that because I’m divorced, I shouldn’t be with Li Longtao."

"Seriously? That old lady? She actually dislikes you? What a joke! I heard Li Longtao’s family wasn’t well off before. He only got where he is now because you helped him when we first t him. What is his mother so proud of? Without you, could Li Longtao be where he is today?" Wen Nuan was furious. "What if you’re divorced? Her son never dated before? And he was dumped by his ex! At least we dumped the big boss Qi Cheng."

Ji Yunhuan was taken aback by Wen Nuan’s words.

Wen Nuan, realizing she misspoke, apologized. "Sorry, I spoke without thinking. I didn’t an to bring that up."

She knew that even though Ji Yunhuan had left Qi Cheng, she truly had feelings for him in the past. Facing soone she genuinely loved, Wen Nuan shouldn’t have said those words.

Ji Yunhuan said, "It’s nothing. I don’t want to think about unpleasant things. His mother wasn’t wrong; I am divorced."

"Right, don’t think about it. Li Longtao doesn’t care. Who knows what’s up with that old lady?" Wen Nuan said. "I’ll finish my accounts. Then we can head back. Stay at my place for the next two days. Going ho alone is too lonely."

"Sure!" For the past two years, Ji Yunhuan had spent New Year’s at Wen Nuan’s house.

Only at Wen Nuan’s place did she feel sowhat at ease.

The New Year passed in a flash.

Ji Yunhuan still lingered at Wen Nuan’s house when Li Longtao called her. "Yunhuan, co to my place."

"No. Let’s discuss our matters after your mom leaves." Thinking of Li’s mother, Ji Yunhuan’s mood soured.

Li Longtao tried to comfort her. "Don’t be angry about that day. I’ve already talked to my mom. She doesn’t dislike you anymore."

"Can such dislike change?" Ji Yunhuan found it a bit miraculous.

Li Longtao said, "Really. Just co over. We need to inform my family about our marriage."

Ji Yunhuan looked at the ceiling, unable to stop thinking about Qi Cheng. Rembering him made her feel suffocated.

Especially during these New Year days, she hadn’t seen him but couldn’t stop thinking about him.

She was a bit scared of feeling this way and wanted to marry Li Longtao soon. She agreed, "Okay."

"Going to his place?" Wen Nuan, wearing slippers, walked over to ask.

"He asked to go. I’ll check it out. We can’t marry without his mother’s acknowledgnt."

"You’re in such a hurry to marry him?"

"Can’t help it, I get anxious thinking about how old I am." Of course, this was just an excuse. The real urgency stemd from Qi Cheng.
