The silence following Nova’s revelation was heavier than any weapon. Damien paced like a lion in a cage, while Elara sat unmoving, her expression unreadable.

"They planned for our feelings," she murmured. "They knew love could undo control."

Damien stopped pacing. "This wasn’t a marriage, it was a leash. A chanism of surveillance, coercion, and now, assassination."

Nova leaned against the wall, arms folded. "The contract isn’t just a docunt. It’s a weapon. If it senses a breach, a shift in emotion, it triggers a failsafe."

Elara’s voice dropped. "How would they monitor that?"

"Neural resonance tracking," Lyne answered, entering with a grim look. "Microchips, yours and Damien’s. Embedded during the wedding rites. They’re active. They’re listening."

Lyne and Nova moved quickly. They constructed a dampening field in the core bunker, shielding Damien and Elara from the contract’s sensors.

Jeren stood guard outside, tension in his stance.

Inside the field, Elara looked at Damien. "They’ll co for us."

Damien nodded. "We make the first move. We rewrite the ga."

She exhaled. "I never asked to love you. I just wanted to survive."

He stepped closer. "And I never expected you to be the reason I wanted to live."

The mont lingered, soft, raw, and true.

The team gathered in the strategy chamber. Mira’s information had exposed a vast espionage web, implicating five high-ranking Mairee officials and dozens of hidden agents.

"We strike tonight," Damien said. "We destabilize their relay and hijack the control systems governing bonded pairs like us. We cut their leash."

Elara’s fingers tapped the table. "If we fail, the contract activates. One of us dies."

Jeren looked between them. "Then don’t fail."

The compound was a fortress of light and code. Nova’s hacking paved the way, silencing turrets and scrambling scanners.

Elara and Damien moved like shadows, a deadly duet. Their synergy, perfected through pain and persistence was now their greatest weapon.

Inside the control tower, they found the override console. Lyne transmitted a backdoor key.

Elara typed fast. The system resisted.

"Code’s learning. It’s adapting," she whispered.

Damien covered her. "Then be faster."

A shot rang. Nova’s voice cracked over comms: "They know you’re in."

Red lights flared. The contract chip surged, Elara scread, clutching her head.

"The failsafe’s activating!" Lyne shouted. "You have thirty seconds."

Damien tore open the relay panel. "Tell what to cut!"

"Blue wire, near the core node!"

He found it, severed it. Elara collapsed.

Silence.

Then she breathed.

Damien knelt, cradling her. "Elara, stay with ."

Her eyes fluttered open. "That... sucked."

He laughed, a sound twisted with relief. "You’re impossible."

She smiled faintly. "And yet you married ."

With the chip neutralized, the team destroyed the control server. The sky outside was burning with Mairee’s falling satellites.

Elara watched the sunrise. Damien joined her.

"They’ll send more," she said.

"Then we’ll keep fighting. Together."

She looked at him. "Not because we’re forced. But because we choose to."

He took her hand. No chains. No contracts. Just choice.

"I love you, Elara."

"And I love you, Damien. Even if you snore like a dying droid."

He laughed. "Back

to insults already?"

"Wouldn’t want to ruin my reputation."
