Selina understood exactly why Alia was so shaken.

Although the truth behind Anna’s death had been carefully hidden by the Reid and Perry families, anyone with a brain could guess Alia was involved. And Owen? He wasn’t even Anna’s son—how could he possibly serve as any kind of spiritual protection?

Alia was guilty. That’s why she was scared.

Selina looked down at her, voice cool and mocking.

"Mrs. Perry, no need to be so nervous. Logan already agreed to let you stay. There’s really no need to grovel."

Alia trembled with rage. "Selina! You—just wait!"

Selina turned smoothly away. "Logan, Mrs. Perry probably doesn’t want us witnessing her embarrassnt. Let’s go."

Logan gave the two a cold glance. "Mm."

Alia flinched, but forced herself to endure it. She couldn’t let go of what Anna had left behind—especially not now that she realized how much of it there was. But the problem was Anna’s will.

So, she had a plan.

Alia had gotten her hands on a drug from the prestigious Foster dical family. A drug that could temporarily alter cognition—just enough to make soone believe what you told them and follow your suggestions.

Her goal? Get Logan to "willingly" sign over Pear Blossom Estate to Owen.

...

That evening.

Selina sat in the garden pavilion, enjoying the quiet night air. She tilted her head. "Strange. Alia didn’t cause any drama all day?"

Jack, nearby, froze a little. "...Isn’t that a good thing?"

Logan’s tone was calm. "If Mrs. Reid wants to wait a bit longer, I don’t mind."

As if on cue, the courtyard gate creaked open. Alia and Owen walked in carrying a food box.

"Logan," Alia began with a syrupy tone, "I’ve thought it over. I was too harsh earlier today. I made so porridge for you—please don’t stay mad at ."

Selina nearly let out a laugh. Now that’s how a fake heiress survives in the Perry Family—adaptability. She’s even willing to call herself his "mother" now. That’s so sacrifice.

When Logan didn’t respond, Owen jumped in to plead the case. "Mom made this porridge just for you. She simred it for hours. Can’t you just have a few bites to show you understand her good intentions?"

Logan’s mouth curled into a sneer. "Mrs. Perry’s good intentions? I’ll pass."

Alia’s expression collapsed into a near sob. "Logan, how could you say that? I was only worried you hadn’t eaten..."

Owen pushed, "Even if you’re not hungry, at least take one bite for Mom’s sake!"

Selina narrowed her eyes. She was almost certain the porridge was drugged.

Sure enough, when Alia opened the box, Selina caught a whiff—and it hit her. That sll. She knew it.

It was a hallucinogenic compound developed by the Foster Family.

So that was the plan? Drug Logan into handing over the estate?

Alia really ca prepared. She must’ve thought this through from every angle. Tonight, Logan would eat the porridge one way or another.

Too bad for her—Selina had the antidote.

anwhile, Alia had launched into her most dramatic performance yet.

"Logan! I know I hurt you by favoring Owen, but I’ve changed! Can’t you give your mother a second chance?"

"How can you see as the enemy? I carried you for ten months, gave birth to you—how can you treat like a stranger?"

"I didn’t want to abandon you. I’ve regretted it every single day. I’m not asking for forgiveness... just one sip of porridge. Is that really so much to ask?"

To an outsider, it might look like Logan was being cruel. A heartless son. But everyone here was Logan’s person—no one was fooled by Alia’s act.

When Logan stayed silent, cold and unmoved, Alia’s facade cracked. She clenched her jaw and finally made her move—ready to force-feed him the porridge herself.

"Hey, Mrs. Perry, why don’t you give the porridge instead?"

Selina suddenly stepped in, taking the bowl from Alia’s hands. She even wiped away a nonexistent tear from the corner of her eye.

"Mrs. Perry, you’ve truly moved . You’re right—there’s no lasting grudge between a mother and her son. I’m sure this porridge ca straight from the heart."

Her tone was soft, but her eyes turned icy, her expression hidden in the shadows.

Without drawing attention, Selina sprinkled a pinch of sothing into the bowl. Then she scooped up a spoonful and gently brought it to Logan’s lips.

"Logan, just take one bite—for Mrs. Perry’s sake."

Logan narrowed his eyes.

Selina blinked at him rapidly.

He hesitated for a beat, then leaned down and took the spoon into his mouth.

Alia’s heart nearly leapt out of her chest. She stared unblinking at Logan’s throat, and only when she saw him swallow did she let out a shaky breath. She hadn’t even noticed the cold sweat trickling down her back.

But it didn’t matter. Logan had taken the bait. The drug only needed the tiniest dose to take effect...

According to the Foster Family, the toxin would activate in three hours. Once it did, Logan would follow every word she said.

Alia could barely contain her excitent now. She didn’t even bother pretending anymore. "It’s getting late. Logan, you should rest. I’ll be back later."

Logan’s gaze lowered. Sothing didn’t add up—if it was late and she wanted him to rest, why say she’d be back later?

Unless... she’d poisoned him. And the effects wouldn’t kick in until later, at which point she planned to use them for sothing.

And it looked like Mrs. Reid had figured that out already.

As Alia and Owen turned to leave, Selina suddenly called after them, "Mr. Owen, wait a second."

Owen stiffened. His heart skipped a beat. Had Selina caught on?

But Selina moved closer to Owen and patted him on the shoulder. "Thank you for accompanying Logan’s mother for all these years."

When she did this, the powder on her fingers floated silently into Owen’s nose.

Owen heard it and felt that Selina was being sarcastic. He angrily shook off Selina’s hand and left with Alia.

Selina watched them go and turned back toward Logan. "Let’s go get so sleep."

Logan chuckled lightly. "Alia’s coming back later, rember?"

Selina gave a cryptic smile. "She won’t be. By the way, how was the porridge?"

Logan raised a brow. "Why?"

Selina swallowed hard, her tone dry. "That was seafood congee from ZR Restaurant. Alia really went all in."

She’d actually spent 1,999 yuan on that one bowl just to make sure Logan would eat it. That was commitnt.

Logan: "..."

He watched her walk ahead and couldn’t help being intrigued.

Alia wouldn’t give up so easily. So why was Selina so sure she wouldn’t co back?

Also, Logan was certain the porridge had been drugged. But he trusted Selina completely. If there was poison, she would have already handled it. He wasn’t worried.

...

Alia had been given a courtyard suite roughly 150 ters from Logan’s room.

At that distance, no one should’ve been able to hear anything, even if sothing did happen.

But at 3 a.m., Selina was suddenly jolted awake by a loud scream—

"Mom! What’s wrong with you?!" Owen’s panicked voice echoed across the estate.
