When they arrived at Doctor Xie’s house, Li Shu was checking the dicinal herbs drying in the yard while Shitou was catching bugs in the dicinal garden.
Seeing them, Li Shu smiled and said, "Grandpa, you are back. Ah Min, you are here."
Doctor Xie nodded at his granddaughter and asked, "Xiao Shu, have the dicinal herbs you gathered yesterday been processed?"
"They still need to be sun-dried for two more days," Li Shu replied.
Noticing the unfamiliar person following her grandpa, she asked, "Grandpa, who is this person?"
Before Doctor Xie could respond, Chen Jianmin replied, "Shushu, this is Mingze and Yuze’s maternal grandmother."
Hearing this, Li Shu nodded at Mother Wei and greeted her, "Hello, Grandma Wei."
When she saw how polite she was, Mother Wei was taken aback. She had t lots of children in the village, but most of them were as wild as she had imagined. Only the children who played with her grandsons were different as they were polite and well-educated.
Mother Wei smiled and praised her, "What a good child."
"Xiao Shu, she ca to buy so dicine. Help her prepare the prescription," Doctor Xie said.
Hearing this, Li Shu nodded and said, "Grandma Wei, may I see the prescription?"
Mother Wei nodded and handed it over. Li Shu read it for a mont before handing it back to her and saying, "Grandma Wei, I will prepare the dicine. Please have a seat inside first."
As she led Mother Wei into the house, Chen Jianmin had already stored the dicine box and dical bag inside Doctor Xie’s room. When he ca out, he helped wrap the dicine in brown paper while Mother Wei waited.
After the dicine was ready, Li Shu said, "Grandma Wei, these are the dicines, twenty-one packages in total. Each package is to be boiled at one ti."
Mother Wei took the dicine and asked, "Little girl, how much is it?"
Li Shu used her abacus for a mont before saying, "Grandma Wei, each package costs 30 cents, so it’s a total of 6 yuan and 30 cents."
While the price was more than she had expected, it was still far cheaper than the dicine her husband often used in the capital. So, Mother Wei handed over the money and said, "Thank you."
Li Shu smiled and saw her off. Afterward, she returned to the house and put the money into a box hidden under the floor beneath the flowerpot by the counter.
Seeing this, Chen Jianmin asked, "Shushu, why do you hide your money there? What if soone sees it and steals it?"
Hearing this, Li Shu replied, "When thieves break into a house, they usually go to the bedroom and check hidden places first. They won’t check the living room, let alone the floor. So, this place is safe."
Chen Jianmin nodded and thought about the money he had hidden at ho. It seed that he needed to move it to a new hiding place.
At the sa ti, in the capital, the Xiao family was in chaos as the Xiao mansion was surrounded by soldiers.
Sitting on the couch in the living room, Grandpa Xiao looked at Xie Xuanzi coldly and asked, "Captain Xie, what is the aning of this?"
Xie Xuanzi took out a docunt from his pocket and showed it to Grandpa Xiao before saying, "Old General Xiao, this is an arrest warrant issued by the higher-ups. We ca here today to arrest the wanted criminal, Xiao Jun."
The mont he heard this, Grandpa Xiao slamd his cane to the ground and said, "My Xiao family has always been upright and never violated any laws. Xiao Jun is not a criminal. Without any concrete evidence, you can’t take my second son away!"
Most of the soldiers who ca today were trained personally by Xie Xuanzi. So when they faced Grandpa Xiao’s cold stare, they didn’t back down, even if they felt the pressure.
eting his gaze, Xie Xuanzi said calmly, "Old General, the evidence has already been submitted to the higher-ups, and the order for arrest was issued a few days ago. Since Xiao Jun ran away, it’s normal for his na to be listed as a wanted criminal."
After a mont of pause, he added, "Old General, if you don’t want this matter to beco public and ruin your family’s reputation, it’s better for you to hand him over."
Grandpa Xiao gritted his teeth and said, "He is not here."
When he heard this, Xie Xuanzi narrowed his eyes and said, "Since the Xiao family is not cooperating, then we can only do it the hard way."
Turning to his subordinates, he ordered, "Search for him!"
"Yes, sir!" The soldiers replied in unison and went to every corner of the house.
Seeing this, Grandpa Xiao was so angry that he felt as if his breath was stuck in his throat. He clutched at his chest and said, "Xie Xuanzi, do you know the consequences of your actions today?"
"I know very well what I’m doing. Old General, you are no longer young. You shouldn’t interfere in military matters anymore," Xie Xuanzi replied with a faint smile on his lips.
Since they were searching for a wanted criminal, the soldiers were not polite at all. They barged into the rooms and flipped over every place that could hide a person. They even checked under the beds and the roof.
An hour later, the soldiers returned with a man in his late forties.
"Let go! You bastards, I will make sure to fire you from your posts!" Xiao Jun roared as he was dragged by the soldiers.
"Captain, we found the criminal," one of the soldiers reported with a salute.
Xie Xuanzi glanced at Xiao Jun, who was only wearing a piece of underwear with so red marks on his neck and chest.
Seeing the traces of lovemaking on his body, he let out a cold laugh and said, "After committing so many cris, you still have the mood to indulge in pleasure. Xiao Jun, you sure have a big heart."
The mont he finished his words, he gestured to the soldiers and said, "Take him away!"
