When she arrived at her ho, Lu Jueyu removed the carts from her bicycle and stored them in the woodshed. She then went into her space to prepare lunch for her children and husband. After she ca out from her space, she harvested so vegetables.
At fifteen minutes past eleven in the morning, she took out lunch for her children from her space, placed it in the kitchen, and covered the food with a basin before she packed als for herself and her husband in a layered bamboo basket.
After locking the doors, she left on her bicycle. When the villagers saw the layered bamboo basket tied to the back of her bicycle, they wondered about what delicious als she had prepared for her husband.
Over the past few months, their previous doubts and disdain toward her had turned into a mix of envy, admiration, and jealousy.
Though she remained physically weak and didn't work in the farmland, her exceptional cooking skills were widely acknowledged by everyone in the brigade. With a capable husband by her side, she had beco the envy of many won in the village.
However, her lack of pregnancy despite being married for several months still gave so villagers grounds for gossip. While she had adopted two children, it wasn't enough to quell their judgnts. This also makes them feel more balanced.
Unaware of the villagers' thoughts, Lu Jueyu parked her bicycle under an old tree and untied the bamboo basket. Checking her watch, she saw that it was still half an hour before noon.
Using the basket as a cover, she retrieved a cloth from her space and spread it on the ground. It wasn't out of pretentiousness. She simply couldn't bring herself to sit directly on the soil, knowing it harbored bacteria and parasites.
Seeing her husband working not far away, she decided to wait for him. Sitting under the tree, she enjoyed the breeze and watched the villagers working.
While she appreciated the beautiful scenery and the peaceful atmosphere, the sight of her relaxing under the tree made the other won envious.
As they worked like a horse and a cow under the harsh sun, they couldn't help but compare their struggles to her seemingly carefree life. In their minds, it was unfair.
They were all won, so why did they have to work like there was no tomorrow while Lu Jueyu enjoyed her days in leisure?
Despite their complaints and unhappiness, there was nothing they could do but stare at Lu Jueyu with jealousy. After all, who could they bla besides themselves for their inability to find a good man to marry?
Under everyone's envious gazes, Lu Jueyu glanced at her watch and began to set up lunch on the mat.
Since the weather was hot, she prepared a cold noodle salad with sesa dressing. Not only was this dish filling, but it was also packed with vegetables and light on the stomach.
With the sweetness of honey and the savory flavors of soy sauce, sesa oil, and bone broth used to cook the noodles, combined with crisp, fresh vegetables and crunchy almonds, it made the perfect dish for sumr.
For the side dish, she prepared chicken salad with lemon. The thinly sliced lemon added a refreshing touch to the savory flavors of herbs, garlic, and chili, making it an appetizing combination.
She also made pork and mushroom stir-fry and tofu in soy sauce as additional side dishes.
Since her husband had a big appetite, she prepared scallion pancakes as an extra staple and snow fungus soup as dessert to help lower his body heat.
Not long after she finished setting out the dishes, bowls, and plates, the blaring sound of a siren marked the start of the lunch break.
Compared to before, everyone had to work longer hours due to the lack of water for irrigation. Due to this, the soil was dry and it would lower the quality and yield of the crops during the planting.
Therefore, most of their tasks involved watering the soil, pulling weeds, turning over the soil, and spreading fertilizer. Everyone is working hard and hopes to harvest more winter wheat this year so that we don't have to worry about insufficient food in the second half of the year.
Li Chenmo had already noticed his wife waiting for him to have lunch together while he was working. So, as soon as the break began, he quickly washed the dirt off his hands, feet, and face and walked to his wife.
When he was near the old tree, he saw his wife waving at him. As he sat down, he looked at the cold dishes and smiled.

Li Chenmo nodded and used the towel to wipe his face, neck, arms, and body. Feeling refreshed, he returned the towel to his wife and asked, "Wife, why did you co to bring lunch? I brought stead buns this morning so you didn't have to co in this hot weather."
"Husband, stead buns aren't enjoyable on this kind of hot day. So I made so cold dishes for you," Lu Jueyu replied while handing him a cup of herbal tea.
"Thank you, Wife," Li Chenmo said with a smile and finished the herbal tea in several gulps.
After hours of hard work, he was famished. When his wife handed him a large bowl of cold noodle salad, he wasted no ti and began eating.
As he ate the noodles, he picked the side dishes. One mouthful of cold noodles, one mouthful of chicken salad with lemon, what a delish. His eating pace quickened as the sweet, tangy, and savory flavors awakened his appetite.
While her husband was eating, Lu Jueyu had already changed the used towel with a wet towel soaked in the lake water.
Seeing her husband eat as if he hadn't eaten in days, Lu Jueyu felt distressed.
