As Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu rode away, another villager sneered, "Sister-in-law, you are such a busybody. They didn't even put you in their eyes, yet you ran over to ask questions."
The villager's face turned gloomy when she heard this, and retorted, "Don't judge others with your petty mind. Jueyu is a good child and has never looked down on anyone."
"Are you sure about that?"
"At least I was invited to the Li family's wedding banquet. What about you?"
The mont everyone heard this, their eyes lit up, and they gathered to join the conversation.
"Sister-in-law, I heard the Li family also invited the brigade secretary and their staff. Not everyone can attend this wedding banquet. Were you really invited?" one of the villagers asked.
The woman, visibly annoyed, snapped back, "Hey, what do you an by that? Are you calling a liar?"
"Well, I didn't an it that way. I was just asking. No need to get angry," the villager muttered.
The woman snorted and said, "The Li family are my husband's distant relatives. We were invited as a family."
Hearing this, everyone exchanged knowing looks. They had thought her family was influential, but it turned out they were rely distant relatives.
Such relationships could be considered either close or distant depending on the level of interaction. Judging by Li Chenmo's reaction earlier, he didn't seem to recognize this supposed relative. With that, the villagers lost interest in the woman's story and returned to their work.
Unaware of the gossip behind them, Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu finally arrived at the Lu family's house.
After parking the bicycle, Lu Jueyu discreetly used her husband's body as cover to retrieve the gifts from her space and place them in the bamboo basket.
Not long after, they heard Chen Anwen's voice coming from the house, "Jueyu, brother-in-law, what brings you two here?"
Lu Jueyu smiled warmly and replied, "Eldest sister-in-law, we ca to bring you sothing."
Chen Anwen smiled and invited them inside, "Co in, quickly."
As Li Chenmo carried the bamboo basket, Lu Jueyu asked, "Eldest sister-in-law, where is my second sister-in-law?"
"She went to the hospital with your second brother this morning for a check-up," Chen Anwen replied while pouring them tea.
After sitting down and drinking the tea, Lu Jueyu said, "Sister-in-law, we bought so things from the capital for everyone. Since everyone is busy, we will leave the gifts with you."
Chen Anwen was surprised and protested, "Jueyu, there is no need to buy so many things or spend money like this."
"Sister-in-law, it's rare for us to visit the capital city. Of course, we had to bring sothing back for everyone," Lu Jueyu said with a smile.
Finding her words reasonable, Chen Anwen no longer resisted.
"These are for you, my eldest brother, and nephews. These are for Father and Mother, and the rest are for my second brother's family," Lu Jueyu explained while unpacking the gifts.
When she saw the amount of gifts, Chen Anwen was stunned. It took her a mont to recover and ask, "Jueyu, how much money did you spend on all of this?"
Noticing her concern, Lu Jueyu leaned closer and whispered, "Sister-in-law, I bought these from the black market. Although the items are slightly flawed, they are cheap, and the quality is still good."
Chen Anwen's eyes brightened at her words. She had heard rumors of relatives buying flawed products at discounted prices from factories without needing industrial coupons, but she hadn't believed it until now.
Reassured by the explanation, she accepted the gifts and said, "Jueyu, brother-in-law, thank you."
Li Chenmo glanced at his wife briefly with a aningful gaze before saying, "Sister-in-law, we are family. No need to be so formal."
After chatting for ten minutes, the couple took their leave. As they rode toward Father Li's house, Li Chenmo teased, "Wife, I never knew you were so good at spinning stories."
Lu Jueyu chuckled at her husband's words and said, "If I hadn't said that, Sister-in-law might have refused the gifts. Since we already bought them, there is no point in not giving them."
Li Chenmo laughed but said nothing. Whatever his wife did, he would always support her.
When they arrived at Father Li's house, Zhang Dongi was pulling out weeds while Father Li was not at ho as he went out to chat with friends.
Seeing them approach, Zhang Dongi stopped what she was doing and greeted them warmly, "Third brother, third sister-in-law, you are here! Co in, quickly."
Lu Jueyu once again used the bamboo basket as cover to take out the gifts from her space before walking over.
"Sister-in-law, are you still feeling nauseous?" she asked.
Zhang Dongi smiled and replied, "Occasionally, but most of the ti, I feel fine."
"Sister-in-law, you are about 26 weeks along, right?" Lu Jueyu asked.
Zhang Dongi nodded, caressing her baby bump and said, "Yes, we are planning another check-up after the Second Brother's wedding."
"Sister-in-law, if you are craving anything, let know. I will cook it for you," Lu Jueyu offered.
"There is no need to trouble you. My aunt will co every day to help with chores. I can just ask her to cook for ," Zhang Dongi said.
"How can that be the sa?" Lu Jueyu said.
After a mont's thought, she added, "Sister-in-law, since you don't have any specific cravings, I will make so jams and snacks for you."
Unable to refuse, Zhang Dongi nodded, "Thank you."
Li Chenmo carried the gifts inside and said, "Sister-in-law, I have put the gifts in the living room. My wife and I have sothing to do, so we will take our leave now."
"All right. Go take care of your business," Zhang Dongi replied.
Before leaving, Lu Jueyu smiled and added, "Sister-in-law, I will visit you again another day."
"Okay."
After they left, Zhang Dongi washed her hands and went to check the gifts. When she saw the pile of items on the table, she was stunned. Each item was expensive and beyond her expectations.
