Ge Qin was slightly stunned upon hearing this, her gaze falling on the signature of Li Jing on the back of the red envelope.
Although it wasn’t Li Jing’s handwriting, those two familiar words seed like a key, instantly unlocking the floodgates of her mory.
Many past events surged in her mind like tides, causing slight ripples in her previously calm heart.
After she escorted Li Jing’s parents to the banquet hall, the groom ca over with a curious look and asked:
"Who are that uncle and aunt? It seems you’re quite familiar with them."
Ge Qin snapped back to reality, forced a smile, and said:
"They are the parents of a good friend of mine from before. They’ve helped a lot, so I chatted with them a bit."
The groom curiously glanced back in the direction Li Jing’s parents had left, lightly said "Oh," and didn’t ask any further questions.
At this mont, the groom noticed that Ge Qin’s expression was sowhat strange and asked concernedly:
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Ge Qin was silent for a mont, holding the red envelope with Li Jing’s na on it, and said:
"I feel a bit uncomfortable. Why don’t you stay here and greet the guests? I want to go next door and rest for a while."
Upon hearing Ge Qin ntion feeling unwell, the groom looked worried and quickly said:
"Alright. You go sit for a while in the small room next door. I’ll handle greeting the guests here. There are quite a few things to do during the wedding; you should rest well first."
So, the groom accompanied her to the small room next door.
After the groom left, Ge Qin sat alone in the room and slowly took out the red envelope she had been holding tightly.
Looking at the two characters "Li Jing" on the envelope, Ge Qin’s thoughts were tangled.
She took a deep breath and slowly opened the red envelope.
Six hundred-yuan bills greeted her eyes, and upon seeing the 600 yuan, Ge Qing was first stunned, then carefully searched the envelope, finding no other notes or items inside.
Staring at this simple 600-yuan red envelope and the signature stamp on the envelope with the four simple words "Happy Wedding," Ge Qin sat blankly in the room for a long ti without speaking.
Unconsciously, the scene from last year erged in her mind, during the sa New Year season, when she sent Li Jing to Tianhai.
Thinking of this, her nose tingled, her eyes reddened, and a surge of unwillingness and grievance quietly rose to her heart, while her chest inexplicably felt a twinge of pain.
At this mont, there was a sudden knock on the door, "Dong dong dong," which startled Ge Qin, prompting her to quickly wipe away the dampness at the corner of her eyes.
Soon after, the makeup artist pushed the door open and entered from outside.
The makeup artist walked in with a smile and said, "Bride, the groom said you’re not feeling well, resting here; I just ca to touch up your makeup so you’ll look nicer at the wedding later."
The makeup artist walked over smiling but suddenly paused; she saw the dampness at the corner of Ge Qin’s eyes and promptly asked with concern in a soft voice:
"What’s wrong? Why are you crying? Are you feeling sad about leaving your parents?"
Ge Qin forced a faint smile and remained silent.
The makeup artist continued, "Oh, it’s normal; I’ve seen a lot in this line of work. Actually, you’re pretty fortunate; living in the sa city, you can visit your parents anyti."
Hearing this, Ge Qin only nodded slightly, still not speaking.
As she saw the makeup artist turn around to prepare the makeup kit for touch-ups, Ge Qin looked at the envelope in her hand, lightly biting her lower lip, then secretly folded the envelope and placed it into the bag she had left in the room.
She decided not to tell anyone about this envelope, choosing to keep it as the final nto of that past.
