So she didn’t think much of it, just assud they knew each other and didn’t take it to heart.
It wasn’t until this morning when she suddenly rembered and hastily told Li Jing.
When Li Jing heard the news about Ge Qin getting married, he was full of astonishnt; a difficult-to-describe, complex, and inexplicable feeling welled up inside him.
Last year, when Li Jing left his hotown and broke off with Ge Qin, he had heard Ge Qin say that her parents were urging her to get married quickly, and she would most likely go on blind dates this year.
In that small town, being twenty-seven or twenty-eight wasn’t exactly young, and Ge Qin herself knew that if she waited a few more years, it would be even harder to find a satisfactory marriage partner.
So, as long as she found soone slightly suitable, she might agree to it.
At that ti, Li Jing advised her to forget him and live her life well.
Now, hearing that Ge Qin is really getting married, and it’s even today, and having received her invitation, Li Jing felt a flood of emotions.
On one hand, he sincerely wished for Ge Qin to start a new life.
On the other hand, thinking that the woman who was once intimate with him would completely beco a stranger from now on, with no intersections in life anymore, he couldn’t help but feel a wave of lancholy.
Seeing Li Jing not saying anything, Zhou Li couldn’t help but ask:
"What’s wrong? Is the signal bad? Or... is there really sothing between you and Ge Qin?"
Li Jing heard the probing in Zhou Li’s words and responded with a smile:
"Don’t worry, there’s nothing between us. She’s getting married; what entanglents could I still have with her?
Even though I’ve had a rich romantic history, I wouldn’t go as far as to ruin soone else’s marriage."
Hearing this, Zhou Li followed up, saying:
"That’s true. And since I saw Ge Qin sent an invitation, it ans there really aren’t any issues between you two.
But your parents really like her and plan to give her a red envelope, you know."
"Still, since she specifically invited you, why not call her or send her a ssage with your best wishes? She’d definitely be happy to get it." Zhou Li suggested.
Li Jing pondered for a mont, then shook his head and said:
"Forget it. We haven’t really kept in touch, so there’s no need to do that.
But since she sent an invitation for her wedding, I should at least send a red envelope as a congratulatory gesture."
Zhou Li subtly sensed sothing unusual about Li Jing’s attitude and asked:
"Okay then, how much are you planning to give? I’ll tell my parents to take it for you, or I can deliver it myself."
Li Jing hesitated for a mont, then asked: "In our hotown, how much do classmates usually give for a red envelope?"
Zhou Li replied: "600 or 800. If it’s a particularly close relationship, so give 1000."
Li Jing thought it over and said: "Then let’s go with 600."
Hearing this amount, Zhou Li was clearly a bit surprised; it wasn’t what she expected. She couldn’t help but ask again: "Are you sure about 600?"
Li Jing nodded: "Yes, we’re just regular friends, 600 is enough."
Then he ended the call with Zhou Li.
In that fleeting mont, Li Jing had considered sending Ge Qin a big red envelope.
But on second thought, he had already given money to Ge Qin last year, and since they’ve severed ties now, there’s really no need to send a large sum, lest it arouse suspicion with Ge Qin’s partner or family.
After all, an engaged woman suddenly receiving a relatively large red envelope from a peer might raise so eyebrows for the groom.
Since he’s already decided to vanish from Ge Qin’s life, he shouldn’t disturb her life anymore.
And this 600 yuan red envelope can be considered a response to Ge Qin sending him an invitation as if he were family.
...
That noon, the most luxurious hotel in Li Jing’s hotown was bustling.
The couple stood in the hotel’s lobby, warmly welcoming the guests arriving one after another.
The groom had a regular appearance; he wasn’t particularly handso, but with a pair of glasses, he exuded a bit of scholarly air.
The bride was especially captivating, with a graceful figure and delicate, beautiful features.
Her ticulously done makeup, paired with a beautiful wedding dress, made her the focal point of attention.
Many guests couldn’t help but praise the bride’s beauty when they saw her.
This bride was indeed Ge Qin.
At that mont, she wore a smile, warm and composed, gracefully interacting with each guest.
She gestured every now and then, indicating to everyone to head into the banquet hall while genuinely thanking them for attending.
Then, Ge Qin’s eyes brightened slightly as she saw a middle-aged couple walking towards them.
Unlike with other guests, she eagerly approached them and said, "Oh, Auntie, Uncle, you’re here!"
The middle-aged couple responded with a sowhat apologetic look on their faces:
"Xiao Qin, we’re sorry, Li Jing isn’t coming ho for New Year this year, so he can’t co in person to congratulate you."
Upon hearing this, a trace of disappointnt flashed in Ge Qin’s eyes, but she quickly composed herself, bead with a smile, and said:
"That’s alright, having you here is just the sa."
In fact, when she insisted on scheduling the wedding at the end of the year, one reason only she knew was her hope that Li Jing would co ho for the New Year and attend her wedding.
Deep down, she still held onto the last bit of hope, hoping to see him one more ti.
However, clearly, her hopes had been dashed.
While she was lost in these thoughts, Li Jing’s parents took out two red envelopes.
Ge Qin was slightly puzzled and instinctively glanced at one of the red envelopes, noticing Li Jing’s parents’ nas on it, whereas the other red envelope prominently bore Li Jing’s na.
She widened her eyes slightly, showing a look of surprise.
Li Jing’s parents explained with a smile: "Li Jing said he felt really sorry and specially asked us to bring this red envelope for you."
