A group of people quickly ran from the other side of the corridor, trying to lighten their steps, but with no sound of battle to cover them, Lynch easily noticed them. The Eye of Insight swept over, and a crossbow arrow shot past.
"They are not Dark Elves!" Lynch took a step back to avoid the attack. These newcors were a squad composed of humans and Gray Dwarves, wearing light armor and continuously aiming their bows at the Mage.
Lynch imdiately swung his magic wand, creating an invisible force field wall that divided the corridor in two. The arrows could not penetrate this magical effect and fell to the ground.
This group of people neither belonged to the first family nor seed like Briza’s subordinates. All non-Drow creatures are cannon fodder, that’s undeniable. If these humans were used for defense and offense, they would certainly be placed in the front line.
Unless they did not belong to any Dark Elf Family.
In Ratris City, there was only one group of rcenaries, but they mainly dealt with rchants coming and going from the Underworld, and it was never heard that they got involved in battles between Dark Elves. Excluding this group of rcenaries left only one possibility, the people in front of Lynch were the so-called "Underground Guild."
Little Finger Felps was not in this vanguard team, which reassured Lynch a lot. Even though he had realized that this group was reinforcents hired by Batana, and they might have broken through from the underground sewers, Mage Lynch still decided to teach them a lesson. Little Finger had said that these people viewed Lynch as an enemy and planned so actions against the Mage, so Lynch didn’t intend to be polite to them.
The narrow passageway impeded their movent speed, and the architecture of Dark Elf houses was not suitable for creatures without floating or flying capabilities to advance. Even though they held up their shields to defend closely against attacks from the front, it was only effective against axes, spears, and arrows. Facing spells, these things proved soft and powerless.
A bone-chilling cold sprayed out from the tip of the Powerful Wand, perfectly timing with the opening when the Power Wall Technique was dismissed by the Mage. White ice tore apart their defense lines, and the air’s moisture quickly cooled down, blurring and stinging their eyes. Those clad in tal gear suffered even worse; they felt as if the equipnt was frozen to their skin, and removing it would an losing a large amount of flesh and blood. Besides their bodies, the cold made their thoughts stiff and slow.
Magic itself defies the laws of nature. Following the Ice Cone, a scorching fireball shot forward. The explosive heatwave instantly shattered the already brittle weapons and armor. Under the huge temperature contrast, even flesh was torn apart by the impact. In this narrow space, despite having agile moves, there was no room to exhibit them; they could only watch the flas rush over and then be engulfed.
The Dark Elves in the room heard the commotion outside and ran out. Although they didn’t know what was happening, instinctively they sided with Lynch. After all, this male was still the Adviser Mage of the first family. The curved blades struck those injured.
Matron Batana saw the charred corpses and noticed their attire and dressing. She imdiately ordered her subordinates to cease the attack. The surviving humans wailed in agony from the burning flas, now thinking that being stabbed to death with a sword would be the greatest rcy to them.
"Mage! What’s going on? Why did you attack our reinforcents?" Batana’s hands were shrouded in black smoke; if she touched soone, they would surely be attacked by powerful negative energy, losing half their life even if not killed.
The Mage understood that this was a critical mont where he couldn’t panic. Any excessive action might provoke Batana to attack recklessly. Lynch was not afraid of a fight with Batana; after all, he had gone through a series of fierce battles, and his so-called "hard battle with the Drow priest" was just a facade, leaving him in better condition. However, turning against Batana would an the imdiate execution of the withdrawal plan. The Magic Array in the Black Crystal Tower, and the agreed ti with Deluo and others would no longer be considered. Such chaotic and unplanned actions were not Lynch’s style.
