Chapter 46: Chapter 46

"SEBASTIAN!" Camilla snapped at her son. "How could you defy your mother? Do you know how hard it was to raise you? All I ask is for you to listen to what I said for your own good!"

"I’m not in the mood to fight with you, Mom. I have way more important things to do," Sebastian said coldly. The more Camilla tried to guilt-trip him, the harder his heart beca. "No need to make

feel like crap just because I’m being honest. You and I have eyes, Mom."

Honestly, Camilla didn’t expect Sebastian to give her a logical answer. All she needed was for him to do what she said to put her in a better mood.

But now that Sebastian dared to defy her, she had to be more serious. "Fine, if you want to play a grown-up ga, Sebastian Saenz. Since I heard that you got a brand new, younger female secretary, I want you to keep her around. Don’t fire or transfer her out."

"She’s just an intern," Sebastian replied. "There’s no use to pay attention to an intern who wouldn’t stay."

"Then make her a permanent secretary. You can fire Iris if you need to," Camilla replied coldly.

Sebastian gritted his teeth. "You’re being unreasonable. Why do I have to fire an experienced secretary over a woman who probably won’t do much other than making coffee and printing docunts?"

"I don’t care what you do to her, but I want you to keep her around no matter what."

"At least tell

the reason, Mom."

"Because I want to see Winter suffer for being a stupid wench and a thief. It’d be good if we could use her sister to do that. So keep her around, alright?"

Sebastian’s gaze was so dark when he got a glimpse of what his mother was about to do. She was probably planning to spike his drink up and let Cindy rape him while he slept.

Of course, it was best to just kick Cindy out of his life imdiately so his mother couldn’t do that horrendous thing.

But to do that, he had to face Winter first.

"I don’t care about whatever you planned, Mom. I’m exhausted enough with the company’s situation right now," Sebastian said. "I can’t make that promise as well. If she sses up, then I’ll fire her. Now, stop calling for stupid reasons like this. I’m exhausted."

"You’re such a grown-up now, my sweet boy. You can even deny your mother’s request now," Camilla said sarcastically. "But oh well, that’s up to you. I don’t lack lackeys. I just think the situation you are in right now is very interesting."

Beep.

Sebastian ended the call as he grew impatient.

If it were his previous life, he’d listen to his mother’s nonsensical words patiently because she’d guilt him if he didn’t.

But not anymore, not when he had a much more dire situation in front of him.

Sebastian clenched the steering wheel. He was legitimately scared of what would happen in the penthouse once he t with Winter.

"Please don’t be too harsh on , wife. I’m scared."

**

Sebastian unlocked the door with his fingerprint, and as he stepped into the penthouse, a fragrant scent greeted him from the kitchen.

He made his way towards the source of the scent and found Winter cooking dinner.

She wore her pajamas, wearing the pink apron that Sebastian also wore in the morning, though it looked a bit too big for her.

Sebastian watched Winter stirring sothing in a pot. This reminded him of when Winter cooked for him every morning.

He often watched her in silence, because it was the only ti Sebastian could truly adore her sweet beauty without having to put up a cold facade.

Winter sipped the soup she made from the ladle, and nodded in satisfaction, "Okay, that’s perfect."

She turned off the stove and turned around.

Winter gasped when she saw Sebastian, who was leaning against the wall with crossed arms. "You scared , Sebastian."

"Sorry," Sebastian smiled. "I couldn’t resist watching. What’s for dinner?"

"Just creamy mushroom soup," Winter replied.

She didn’t sound mad, which made him relieved. He was scared Winter would start screaming and throwing stuff at him when he stepped into their ho.

"Oh, I love mushrooms!"

A lie. He hated mushrooms. But he’d eat anything Winter cooked, even if it were as unappetizing as fried cardboard.

"Mind if I join you?"

Winter gave him a smile so sweet that Sebastian’s heartbeat accelerated instantly.

"Is that a yes?" Sebastian prodded.

"Your audacity is astounding, Sebastian Saenz. What makes you think you deserve to share a table with ?" Winter said lightly. "I made this for myself, and even if I can’t finish it, I’d rather give it to stray dogs outside. They deserve it more than you."

Sebastian forced a bitter smile as his hopes dwindled once again..

He knew this would happen, but he couldn’t help getting excited whenever Winter showed a hint of hope for him.

With a shrug, he replied, "Oh well, guess I’ll order sothing later."

Sebastian turned around, ready to return to his room, but then Winter stopped him. "We’re not finished, Sebastian Saenz."

Sebastian halted his step and returned to her side. "Is this about your sister?" he asked.

Winter didn’t give an imdiate response. She stared at him with so much hatred and disdain, but she couldn’t accuse him of cheating when he hadn’t done anything yet.

"How’s your day in the office with Cindy? I trust she’s a pleasant girl, right? I practically raised her since we have a big age gap. "I sent her to a good university, too. I’m sure she will be a great help."

"She’s fine," Sebastian said half-heartedly. He didn’t know what Winter was aiming for. If she wanted to yell at him, now would be the ti, as he had ntally prepared himself on his way ho. "But I’d rather have you working with ."
