Chapter 542: Chapter 30 The Sage
“Lord Saint, I’ve heard that a human has arrived at the altar of Jiutong Mountain,” cooed a courtesan from the Spring Fragrance Pavilion, snuggling into the Saint’s embrace. “I’ve never seen a mber of the Human Race before.”
The Saint opened his eyes and smiled, “Then go see for yourself.”
“But I am not qualified,” the elven woman spoke up, “Bai He had previously visited and ended up being rudely dismissed by Pudas, losing face. For soone of my status, it’s even less possible.”
The Saint had originally not bothered with the woman by his side; after all, she was just a courtesan. Though the Eternal Race was lascivious, the general consensus towards won from the Spring Fragrance Pavilion was unified—few were really willing to do much for these won; money was already the greatest reward they could offer.
Speaking of humans, the Saint had encountered them twice in his long life, and both had left profound impressions on him.
All of a sudden, the Saint beca sowhat interested in Lu Hong and called out to a servant outside the tent, “Summon the human who has co from Jiutong Mountain, I wish to et them.”
“As you command!”
Soon after, Lu Hong and Pudas were called to the tent.
Pudas, who had hoped to join Lu Hong in eting the Saint, was heartlessly blocked outside by the servant: “The Lord Saint did not summon you, please wait outside, Young City Lord.”
Pudas could only retreat outside indignantly.
Upon entering the tent, the Saint was reclining on a soft fur pad plucked from a Demigod Demon Beast, with a woman from the Spring Fragrance Pavilion massaging and tending to him.
“Lu Hong pays his respects to the Lord Saint!”
Seeing that the other party didn’t kneel, the Saint huffed discontentedly, “Is every mber of the Human Race as arrogant and rude as you?”
“If the Lord Saint wishes to punish , Lu Hong is willing to accept it,” Lu Hong joked. Although he couldn’t defeat a Heavenly God now, there was no need to kneel. Besides, kneeling was not in his habit.
“Hmph! Is every Human Race like this?” the Saint asked once more.
“Have you t other humans?”
“I’ve t two. One whose na I do not know,” the Saint’s mouth twitched unconsciously at this point, presumably because this human had left a poor impression on him.
“The other was the Furious Sun God from the Maseri starfield.”
“t the Furious Sun God?”
“Do I need to deceive you?” the Saint reminisced, “This fellow sohow learned of the Eternal Race’s extre night beast tide and ca specifically to hunt god-level Demon Beasts, claiming he wanted to go back and craft so ‘construct.'”
Lu Hong had initially planned to use his connection with Furious Sun to build rapport with the Saint, but decided against it and remained silent.
The Saint then asked, “Do you know Furious Sun?”
“How did you figure it out?” Lu Hong asked curiously.
“Your heartbeat accelerated when I ntioned Furious Sun,” the Saint said indifferently. “What is your relationship with Furious Sun?”
“Eh… a friend, perhaps?” After a mont of thought, Lu Hong gave a response.
The Saint was taken aback and then burst into laughter, “You, a re Third Transition Early Stage… actually claim to be friends with a Heavenly God…”
The Saint’s laughter ceased midway because he didn’t detect any fluctuation in Lu Hong’s emotions, which ant the latter was not lying!
The Saint’s expression darkened, “How can you prove it?!”
“Does the Lord Saint have a grudge against Furious Sun?” Lu Hong did not answer directly, but instead asked a counter-question.
“Yes!” The Saint’s response startled Lu Hong. Seeing Lu Hong’s unease, the Saint continued coolly, “This matter won’t befall you. If you truly have old ties with Furious Sun, perhaps I can offer you an imnse favor.”
“The Lord Saint wouldn’t deceive , would he?” Lu Hong, who had been arranged by the All-Knowing God before, was extrely distrustful of Heavenly Gods.
The Saint did not speak, but the elven woman beside him began to shout, “Audacious! How dare you doubt the word of the Lord Saint?!”
“Out!” The Saint didn’t bla Lu Hong but instead dismissed the elven woman.
“Lord… Lord Saint?” The elven woman was taken aback.
“Get out!” The Saint spoke again, and the elf woman had no choice but to bow and retreat, but not before she glared fiercely at Lu Hong.
Lu Hong chuckled. “The Saint truly is valiant!”
The Saint’s eyes narrowed slightly. It seed to him that Lu Hong was speaking the truth, without any flattery, and this pleased him greatly, a hint of a smile appearing on his face.
Of course, Lu Hong wasn’t lying—only soone wise and brave could drive away the people from the Spring Fragrance Pavilion.
As for other aspects, sorry, they’re not covered.
“If you can prove your relationship with Furious Sun, I will give you an imnse favor, and I won’t deceive you about this,” the Saint spoke again. “It’s also no trouble for to tell you that when I had just ascended to the Heavenly God Realm, a sudden surge of demon beasts attacked. City 007, under my jurisdiction, faced an assault from two demon beasts of the Heavenly God Realm. Fortunately, Furious Sun arrived and resolved my dilemma. Therefore, I owe him a favor. For a thousand years, he’s not set foot on the Eternal Continent again, and I’ve been unable to repay this favor. If you are an old acquaintance of his, I’m willing to transfer this favor to you.”
“Then forget it,” Lu Hong shook his head. “Although I am acquainted with the Furious Sun God, I’m far from being able to replace him in receiving a favor repaynt.”
“It’s alright,” the Saint didn’t press Lu Hong and continued. “There’s still plenty of ti. If you can present proof of your relationship with Furious Sun, I’m willing to accept one request from you, as repaynt to Furious Sun. Rember this, since you’re in the prival region, you basically can’t leave this continent. So there will co a day when it will be useful.”
“Thank you, Saint!”
“Go!” the Saint waved Lu Hong off with a calm face, but deep within, his heart was already churning with waves.
In front of a Heavenly God, Lu Hong’s divine construct on his back could not be concealed. The mont Lu Hong entered the tent, the Saint sensed the God-level equipnt upon him, and that the material used—blood—was exactly from the divine beast slain by Furious Sun those years ago. The Saint had intentionally steered the conversation toward Furious Sun at the outset, wanting to probe the connection between Lu Hong and him.
There was no conspiracy—re curiosity from the Saint.
After all, Furious Sun’s slaying of the divine beast was a matter of a millennium past, and Lu Hong was clearly no older than thirty. It couldn’t be that Furious Sun had foreseen a thousand years before Lu Hong’s birth that he would have such a companion, hence he hunted the beast and prepared logistics for him, right?
God-level equipnt for a commoner not even thirty years old?
The Saint tapped his thigh lightly. Could this young man be Furious Sun’s illegitimate child? But he himself does not know, so in his mind, Furious Sun is his friend?
Interesting, very interesting!
Stepping out of the tent, Pudas hurriedly ca over. “How did it go? What did the Saint want with you?”
“He’s considering whether or not to take you as his disciple.”
“What?!” Pudas was startled and quickly asked, “Then… then what did you tell him?”
“I told the Saint that Pudas is quite decent, but a bit slow-witted, and unsuitable to be your disciple.”
“Damn it!” Pudas said speechlessly. “You’re my boss, can’t you speak well of ?”
“With soone as foolish as you, it’s impossible to beco the disciple of a Saint,” Lu Hong laughed. “Do you think what I said could be true? The Saint discussing with about taking you as his disciple? He would discuss it with your father!”
“Pfft!” Pudas gave a disgruntled snort after being teased and then added, “You just know how to make fun of !”
“Alright, alright, no more joking around,” Lu Hong said seriously. “I have a question.”
“What’s the question?”
“The Saint is a Heavenly God powerhouse, so why doesn’t he help the surrounding cities resist the demon beast surge?”
Lu Hong asked this question loudly enough that it would surely reach the Saint inside the tent, especially since he held no favor for those reveling in pleasure here after seeing the bloody battle on the city walls.
“Hey, hey, hey, you can’t talk nonsense,” Pudas said, scared, quickly covering Lu Hong’s mouth. “Who said the Saint hasn’t contributed? This region has divine beasts appearing, and if it weren’t for the Saint guarding here, I fear that cities would have already been annihilated under the overwhelming power of the divine beasts.”
“I see,” Lu Hong nodded, then turned to bow towards the tent. “Lu Hong has wronged the Saint. Please, forgive !”
The Saint didn’t respond, acting as if he heard nothing. Lu Hong didn’t dwell on it and, taking Pudas, turned to leave.
Just then, countless blood-red arrows shot out from all directions, aiming for Lu Hong’s vital spots.
However, before Lu Hong could react, the Saint in the tent let out a furious roar, “Scoundrels! How dare you attempt assassination before ?!”
The enraged voice bore the force of thundering vengeance. In just an instant, the blood-colored arrows crumbled, and the won from the Spring Fragrance Pavilion who cast the skill toppled to the ground, bleeding profusely.
The Saint stepped out of the tent, his face dark: “Bring them over!”
