Chapter 1075: Chapter 1075: Occupy Chapter 1075: Chapter 1075: Occupy The crowd rushed into the rear of the Broken Hall, where they saw several stone slabs suddenly shatter as spiders with fiery glows sprang out by the dozen.
These were obviously the kind of spiders that would explode upon death, which Li Yao disliked the most. No matter which type of troops he let deal with them, it wouldn’t be cost-effective, and there would also be significant casualties.
Only the majority of a Necromancer’s summonings, which are conjured out of thin air, could sustain such consumption, since a Necromancer always had an abundance of Undead minions as long as they had mana.
With more than a dozen Wizards around her, Feng Yi shouted, “Iron Stone Demon, epic-grade.”
Following her command, the several Wizards enveloped in black robes unhesitatingly hurled out pieces of equipnt that flickered with purple light.
Then, more than a dozen Iron Stone Demons plumted from the sky like teors, smashing the recently erged Self-Destruction Spiders to pieces. The fierce explosions rely made the Stone Demons take a slight step back, their bodies virtually unscathed.
“Summon large lee constructs to surround the entrance of the Underground Palace, and for ranged summons, only call upon ice-elent Skeletons.”
The Wizards then took out bizarrely colored bones, and amidst their eerie chants, a variety of odd Skeletons erged.
Feng Yi summoned a race-level tallic Skeleton, at least five yards tall, whose body was as if cast from an unknown tal. This was a summoning dium dropped by a boss they had slain not long ago at Titan’s Relics with their guild.
The rest of the Undead summoners also called forth strange creatures, with even the least impressive among them able to summon a boss-level monster.
They ford a defensive line, firmly blocking the entrance to the Underground Palace. Beside them, Skeleton Mages with hands radiating blue light were summoned one after another, completely sealing off the entrance.
Li Yao had absolute faith in his teammates’ abilities. Once he issued a command, he no longer paid attention to it and instead issued a series of orders.
“Guardian, lead your people to defend the left breach, Water Fruit defend the second breach on the left, and Zhan Tianxia, you guard the smallest breach on the right. Yaoji, hurry and assemble the Crossbow cannons to support the three breaches separately, everyone else follow and block the main entrance to face the assault of the magic spiders.”
The Angels defending were actually protecting a side entrance to the hall. A dozen or so activated an immovable barrier, forming a steadfast line of defense against the tide-like spider assault, never taking a step back. Instead, due to their reflective lightning damage, they continuously hunted the spiders.
The breach that Zhan Tianxia defended was the smallest, only two yards across and a hole opened in the side of the hall. Only Sword Wolf Spiders could enter through it—spiders known for their powerful attacks and agility. However, the warriors, each holding a shield-sized sword and fervently combatant, had imnse strength, easily dismbering the Sword Wolf Spiders with a single stroke.
The breach on Water Fruit Knight’s side was not small, but behind her stood the highly disciplined Sacred Teaching army. They remained silent, their coordination exceptionally tacit, successfully solidifying their hold on the gap.
At the main entrance of the hall, as Li Yao gave his orders, a black vortex appeared. Five hundred Poisonous Mantises took up positions at the main entrance and over half of the hall, clashing with the swarming magic spiders.
The fla-spewing mantises breathed out venomous fire while those on the outer layer engaged in close combat with various magic spiders.
Then, Li Yao summoned two hundred Dark Rangers and his own ranged Skeletons behind the hall, instantly filling the hall with a sea of fighters.
Although there were additional followers, the team still perford their distinct roles, dividing into tanks, healers, and damage dealers.
The only exception were the rogueclass, who were quickly assembling crossbow cannons; this privilege in war mode—that of assembling cumberso but powerful weapons—was exclusive to rogues and shooting Hunters.
Rogues and assassins made suitable Scouts, but in formal combat, once a rogue used up all their survival skills, they were as good as dead—a stark contrast to lee fighters such as warriors.
Over a dozen rogues dispersed to support several gaps; the healers spread out as well. In reality, they were hardly needed on the frontlines, overwheld by the sheer number of mantids, too many for them to keep up with healing.
Moreover, Li Yao did not intend for them to heal the mantids. Given the mantids’ strong regenerative abilities coupled with the fungi mats, although they weren’t immortal, they were extrely difficult to kill.
Hunting over a thousand magic spiders had resulted in the loss of only about one hundred mantids—indicative of their resilience, and that’s only because of the mobile warfare; otherwise, the casualties would have been even fewer.
Here, for example, as long as the severely injured mantids didn’t die and had even a slight chance, they could retreat underground. Moreover, this place could accommodate up to five hundred mantids; with the twelve thousand at Li Yao’s command, a positive cycle could slowly form.
Although followers could be resurrected after falling in a dungeon, revival also required money. Mantids were cheap to produce, and resurrecting them was a losing business. Li Yao, though wealthy, was not wasteful; it was worth it for the mantids to hunt magic spiders and Breakers. Mantids, after all, were sothing Li Yao was truly reluctant to part with.
The ghost hunting spiders, despite their massive size and armor, were no match for the mantids’ extraordinary strength. Originally capable of breaking through defenses, the spiders couldn’t push through in the face of the mantids, especially as they were denser around the great hall. If it had been a human formation, it would have likely been breached by now.
And the sword wolf spiders, with their razor-sharp attacks, were currently a minor threat as the queen insect, although first-tier, was still not in a fully functional state without the divided hives, and there were no tactical plans for these worm tribe creatures.
Without the queen’s enhancent and mutation, the creatures summoned by Li Yao didn’t actually have an advantage. It is known that the queen’s terror isn’t just its ability to breed a massive number of minions; if these insects were just a disorganized mass, no matter the numbers, they would be useless against the likes of giants dragons and elves, crushed outright.
The worm tribe would not have beco rulers of the world in Ancient Tis. The real reason lies in the growth and evolution of the queen as it could cause variances and evolutions in its minions akin to aura skills.
For example, mantids could mutate into various powerful variants like the Warfire Hunter, the Undying Poisonous Mantis, and so on. Each mutation could induce a qualitative change in the mantids, transforming them into even stronger beings.
But mutation required a change in the queen’s grade or second- or third-tier queens, granting the worm tribe the ability to mutate with every advancent.
Evolution, on the other hand, was a beneficial change, a general enhancent and strengthening of certain abilities, and it had relatively simpler conditions.
For example, if the queen’s defensive abilities were strengthened, the worm tribe’s armor would be enhanced. If the queen chose to improve mobility, then the tribe’s movent abilities would also increase.
Depending on the choice made, many variations could arise, which is why, even within the sa worm tribe, or even when the race and mutation layers were the sa, abilities could still differ.
This was the capital that allowed the worm tribe to dominate. Of course, Li Yao still valued the chanical Legion more. After all, it had always been the chanical Legion that erged victorious.
Although the Titan’s Temple of a Thousand Gods had failed, it wasn’t at the hands of the Old Gods; it fell to their own kind and countless enemies amassed over billions of years…
