"Hello?"
"Hey, man."
Silence.
Eric chuckled. "What? You getting cold feet?"
I let out a small laugh. "Yeah... kinda."
"But that’s not why you called, is it?"
I exhaled, steadying myself. "No. I just wanted to say that no matter what happens tomorrow, I’m all in."
Eric stayed quiet, letting continue.
"I’m going to trust you fully and follow your lead," I said. "And you were right the other day... I don’t always take the initiative, I—"
"Hey," Eric cut in. "Now’s not the ti for that talk. When this is over, you and I will sit down and figure out what you really want. But for now, focus."
He paused, then added with a grin in his voice, "And rember, I’ve got your back. So let’s get this done first and then you can get all mopey on ."
I let out a small chuckle, shaking my head.
"Yeah... Alright."
"Good. Now get so sleep, we’ve got a long day ahead," Eric said before hanging up.
I stared at my phone for a mont, the weight of my decision settling in. This was it.
I exhaled deeply, tossing the phone onto my bed before lying down. My mind raced with a hundred different scenarios... at first, most of them ended badly. Getting caught, things going south, probably ending up in jail. But then, I let myself imagine the other side of it. What if it actually worked? What if, for once, things played out in my favor? What if my recent run of good luck continued? The thought was almost foreign... but damn, it felt good to consider.
I tried sleeping, but my mind wouldn’t shut off. So, I grabbed my controller and hopped on Call of Duty: Black Ops.
For the next two hours, I lost myself in the ga running through chaotic battlefields, racking up kills, cursing at campers, and barely surviving last-minute ambushes. At so point, I got into a heated match, my squad barely pulling through with a win. The adrenaline kept wired, but eventually, my eyes grew heavy, and sleep finally started creeping in.
11:45 PM
I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing nonstop with notifications. Still half asleep I sat up and rubbed my eyes, squinting at the screen. Amid the usual chatter from group chats and system alerts, one ssage caught my attention a text from an unknown number.
It read: "Hey, can I co over to get my panties?"
I stared at the ssage, my groggy mind struggling to piece it together at first. And then it clicked.
Oh shit, it’s Abby.
She wants to co over? Well, that’s... that’s risky. We both know she’s not coming just to take her "underwear".
My thumb hovered over the reply button, hesitation creeping in. Should I tell her no? Should I even be considering this with everything happening tomorrow? Yet, the thought of her being here, her warm presence, her teasing smirk was tempting. Too tempting.
For just a few minutes, I could forget about everything else. A temporary escape, a way to silence the anxiety clawing at my chest.
Oh well, a little distraction wouldn’t hurt.
"Okay, sure you can," I texted back, dropping my phone onto the bed.
Almost instantly, a response popped up.
"Be there soon ;)"
I exhaled, running a hand through my hair as I lay back in bed, anticipation creeping in. Abby and I hadn’t spoken since we sex the other day, so I wasn’t sure what to expect or even what to say to her.
About twenty minutes later, my phone buzzed again.
"You might wanna open your door now."
I sat up quickly, forcing myself to stay composed as I made my way to the door. My hand gripped the knob, slowly turning it until the lock clicked open.
I pulled the door open, expecting to see Abby standing there with her usual smug grin.
But the second my eyes registered the figure in front of , my entire body tensed.
Hold on a sec... that ain’t Abby.
Esther?
I barely stopped myself from blurting out her na. My mind scrambled for an explanation, but none ca. Instead, I was left staring at her, dressed in a silky nightdress that draped over her body just right, her expression playful yet unreadable.
"You gonna let in?" she whispered, snapping out of my daze.
"Yeah, yeah... sorry," I mumbled, stepping aside.
As she walked in, she studied my face, tilting her head slightly. "Why do you look so surprised?"
Shit.
"Uh... I just wasn’t expecting company this late, that’s all," I lied smoothly. "Figured everyone would be asleep by now."
She seed to accept that answer, smiling as she made herself comfortable.
What the hell is she doing here?
A wave of relief washed over as I realized I hadn’t ntioned Abby’s na in the text. That would’ve been a disaster.
Esther stood at the edge of my bed, her eyes locked onto mine as she lifted a hand and curled her fingers, silently gesturing for to co closer.
I exhaled, the last traces of anxiety lting away.
Without another thought, I stepped toward her, wrapping my arms around her waist as she leaned in. Our lips t, slow at first, then deeper like this was sothing inevitable.
Her lips were soft, warm, moving in sync with mine as my hands rested on her waist. She pressed closer, her body molding against mine, the scent of her perfu lingering in the air between us.
I felt her fingers slide up my arms, then to the back of my neck, pulling even deeper into the kiss. My heartbeat quickened. Whatever hesitation I had before was gone now—right now, this felt right.
She pulled away slightly, her forehead resting against mine, a teasing smirk playing on her lips.
"You were expecting soone else, weren’t you?" she whispered, her voice low and playful.
I swallowed, trying to keep my expression neutral. "What? No, of course not."
She chuckled, her hands still resting on my shoulders. "Mmhmm. You sure? You looked really surprised when you saw ."
I needed to turn this around before she got too curious. I let out a small laugh, shaking my head. "I just wasn’t expecting a midnight visit, that’s all."
Her smirk deepened. "Oh? You an you don’t want here?"
"That’s not what I said," I countered, tightening my grip around her waist.
She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head slightly as if daring to prove it.
I leaned in again, capturing her lips, this ti with more urgency. She responded instantly, fingers threading through my hair as she pressed herself against .
