Maze
The drive to White Mountain takes a couple of hours. We knew this, but we couldn’t get going sooner than now. Kiara called her parents, and they told her we would just have a late dinner. She also told them that Alastair and Frida ca with us, and they didn’t have an issue with that at all.
In the car, Kiara and I share what we have decided about tomorrow evening with them, and they agree it is a good plan. We tell them to keep everything quiet, as we are going to fill in Kiara’s parents ourselves.
The rest of the ride is very comfortable. We make smalltalk, laugh and discuss Kiara’s old pack. She tells Alastair and Frida about her experience with the pack, and how they bullied her when they found out she didn’t have a wolf and how it continued when it was clear she was a fox shifter. Both Alastair and Frida are livid on Kiara’s behalf, and it is nice to know she has more allies than just today. I have no illusions, and am sure her old pack will try to turn us against each other. Low and behold, that will never work!
We are holded at the entrance to the pack ground. The guard asks who we are, as the car is swept by a detector of so sort. Alastair answers that the King and Queen are seeking entrance and have an appointnt with Alpha and Luna. The guard asks him to roll down the window to the back seat. Alastair looks in the rearview mirror where I nod to him.
The guard looks in, sees and imdiately bows. Everyone knows who their King is. Then his eyes fall on Kiara and his mouth drops open. He is about to say sothing when Alastair asks if he is satisfied. The guard signals to the other man to open the gate. Alastair rolls our window up again before the guard can say anything to Kiara, who is sitting very still at my side.
"Baby?" I ask her, and she looks at with wide fearful eyes. "Are you sure you are up for this?" I ask her, when she focuses on . She nods, determined to take over the fear.
"Yes! I am going to be their Queen, and I will not be afraid of them anymore! They cannot hurt ." She says. I feel like it is more to herself than , but whatever helps her.
We arrive in front of the packhouse and Alastair parks the car. People are gathering around it, probably with the news from the guard of who is visiting their pack.
"Ready, baby?" I ask Kiara, and she nods. Frida gets out and opens Kiara’s door, as Alastair does the sa with mine. We get out, and I hurry to go around and be beside Kiara. She is not going to be alone even for a second tonight, and I sigh internally at the trueness of my thoughts. It was genius to bring Frida and Alastair. Frida can go with Kiara to places where only females can go.
The door to the packhouse opens, and the silent crowd moves for their Alpha and Luna. Alpha Benjamin and Luna Sami walked out with a wide smile, embracing their daughter and shaking my hands. They nod to Alastair and Frida, who bow in return and respect to their status.
"White Mountain we have been honored with a visit from our great King and his mate, our daughter Kiara. We hope you will welco them with open arms and minds." Uncle Ben says, winking at Kiara. She smiles, but it is bitter. She knows they will do nothing of the sort, which is proven just a second later.
"I’m sorry, Alpha, but I thought you said that your daughter is the mate of the King?" Soone asks. It’s a female and her voice is snide and condescending.
"I did, lissa." Uncle Ben answers calmly. He knows there will be no need for him to defend his daughter when I am here. The woman stands apart from the crowd with three other young females. Her cold eyes take in Kiara, she scowls. Then she looks at , and the scowls turn into a sultry smile. Kiara growls. I wrap one arm around my mate, soothing her through our bond. lissa sneers at Kiara.
"Does our King know what she is?" She asks, sending Kiara a smug smirk. She probably thinks I am in the dark about my mate’s shifter status.
"That is none of your business, lissa." Uncle Ben says, daring her to go against him. She raised an eyebrow.
"I just think he should know what he is taking to his bed." She says, trying to sound concerned and innocent. Soone else chis in and then another. Soon the whole crowd wants uncle Ben to tell which animal Kiara has as her counterpart, but I raise my free hand and quiets everyone.
"White Mountain, I thank you for your concern regarding my knowledge of my mate, but I assure you; I know e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g!" I announce. I put emphasis on the word ’everything’ to let them know I an everything. The crowd murmurs. The woman, lissa, scowls again.
"And you still want her?" She asks, not showing any sign of respect for or Kiara. I’ve about had it with her, but Kiara mindlinks to let it go. I kiss her cheek.
"She is my mate, Luna and Queen." I answer back, silencing the awful woman for a mont.
I gesture for uncle Ben and aunt Sami to lead the way inside. We walk past the crowd, which parts for us the sa way it did for their Alpha and Luna. Inside they lead us directly to the stairs and up to the Alpha floor. I cannot help but notice we haven’t t the Beta’s yet or the Gamma’s. When we enter the room after uncle Ben and aunt Sami and tiny voice squeals and jumps into Kiara’s arms. It’s a boy, maybe around 10-11 years old. Kiara laughs at the kid, swirling him around the air in her arms. I smile at the sight, longing after putting a pup in her belly. I know that is too early for my beautiful mate, but soday I want to have children with her. I want to marry her and live our lives to the fullest.
"I noticed we didn’t et you Beta’s or Gamma’s outside, uncle?" I ask, smiling at Kiara as she looks at .
"You will see them later, nephew. I thought we should speak in private first." He calls the boy to him. "May I present my heir and son; Benedict." The boy bows deeply to , and then to Kiara with red spots of embarrassnt on his cheeks.
"I am sorry about before, your Grace." He says with all the dignity a 10-11 year old can muster. I smile at him.
"Do not even think about it, Benedict. I am very happy to finally et my mate’s little brother." I tell him and he gives a toothy smile.
"Co, sit down. We have things to discuss." Uncle Ben says, gesturing to the couches where aunt Sami is already sitting. She brings Benedict to her side, and uncle Ben sits on his son’s other side. I help Kiara to sit before I follow her. Alastair and Frida stand behind us.
"We also have so news to share." I tell them, grabbing Kiara’s hand.
