Blaze’s POV

"What do you an, is she alive? Why wouldn’t she be?" I ask, my mind racing a mile a minute. With Ezra’s shout out Aicon retreats two steps and raises his spear towards my companion.

"She... But! Do you not know?" Ezra asks, his face white, and his hands shaking. I shake my head no, as does Aicon.

"We only know the Lady cos to our village on the full moon and delacing herself as the Wood Queen. We listen to her, or she feeds her beast with our children." Aicon answers, shuddering. Ezra falls to the rock he sat on, his face in his hands, and sighs deeply.

"Okay. 18 years ago Narine plotted against Aunt Abigail and everyone from our pack..."

"Do you even know where we are?" Ezra asks for the millionth ti, and I roll my eyes, again. I’ve rolled them so much these last couple of days that I’m getting a headache. He’s been nagging ever since we parted ways with Aicon and his people at the forest clearing, asking all sorts of questions and trying to talk my ears to the point where they are bleeding.

I’m not used to people being around all the ti, and definitely not talking to . Usually, people tend to avoid . I don’t know why, though? Maybe it’s the tattoos or my sunshine mood.

"Yes, and if you don’t stop whining soon then I’ll actually leave you out here during the night and travel on by myself," I reply over my shoulder. Ezra mumbles sothing that sounds like "over sensitive haldbreed." I chuckle to myself. I’m not the one who’s been complaining about everything since we started; the weather is too hot, the sun is too bright, the clouds are irritating, and the night is too cold. I can’t even do this anymore. But I can’t let the moron fend for himself, as I know my princess will never forgive if her childhood friend was lost in this thick forest. We’ve been getting along just fine, as long as he keeps his mouth shot. But again, that death trap of his is not close for long periods of ti, so will have to be ’getting along, sort of.’

The day was almost over, and I was about to find us a campsite, when the woods beca eerie quiet. I looked around the forest, hoping a cave or sothing similar suddenly popped out of nowhere, but it, of course, didn’t. Ezra, feeling my vigilance and knowing sothing is wrong, stays close to . I signal for him to put his bag down, as do the sa myself, never taking my eyes off the tree line.

After what felt like hours, which was just a few minutes, huge wolves walked out from the treeline, growling and smacking their teeth at us.

I recognize the leader, and grin.

"Darius. What are you doing here?" I ask, shielding Ezra from the wolves not knowing if they would attack for being with soone unknown to them. Darius shifts back, and one of the others throws him a pair of shorts he had in his mouth.

"Blaze, old friend. Long ti no see." Darius says with a smile. He looks past , and his eyebrows knitted together in thought.

"What have you been up to?" I ask in an attempt to distract him. He looks at and rolls his eyes.

"Tried, again, to get that stubborn fox girl to join the cause, but she denied, again. And believe it or not, she actually found her mates." He says, teeth gritting and anger in his eyes. I know Darius has always had a soft stop for that girl, but this really seems to piss him off.

"Woah. Mates? As in plural?" I ask, my head spinning with thoughts on how to get a move on this encounter. Darius nods.

"Three. The young alpha spawn of Blue Ridge. I can’t even comprehend why she would be mated to them, they are just going to..." Darius is interrupted by Ezra.

"Do you an to say that Alpha Ethan, Elias, and Elijah have found their mate and she is a fox shifter? Their parents aren’t going to accept that. They are so of the last purists left after the war and new royal reign." Ezra says casually. Darius sneers.

"And who might you be? You are no ordinary wolf shifter." Darius replies with an attitude. His n stand up feeling the uneasiness from their leader and ready to move on his command. Ezra only raises an eyebrow, and I only now realize we can’t communicate through mind-link, as none of us are directly royal. Damn! I need to rectify this later. If there is a later.

"No, I’m not. Neither are you, hellhound! Thought I wouldn’t notice?! You are supposed to be extinct, but I guess Narine or Laurus thought it would be necessary to have you on hand once again?!" I look between Darius and Ezra. What the hell? I knew Darius is not an ordinary wolf, but being a forbidden hybrid myself, I didn’t think of it as anything unusual.

"How did you know?" Darius asks, his voice sounding amused and his n visibly relax at the change of his voice.

"Let’s just say I have connections," Ezra answers vaguely. Darius smirks, and I know that all too well.

"Darius, you were sent here to apprehend us, right?" I ask, knowing the answer already.

"I’m afraid so, old friend. She cannot have you et your pretty princess mate just yet. She needs sothing to solve itself first." He answers, as he signals his n to seize us.

The other hellhounds, I suppose they are, leap from their laying position and Darius shifts as well joining the fray.

I shift into my dragon as soon as the others leap, not looking to see what Ezra is up to imdiately. Loch has been dying to be let out for quite so ti now, and now he has a chance to let out so anger. We are biting, ripping, and shooting water arrows everywhere as more and more hellhounds and rouges join the battle.

Loch takes to the air, going outside of reach for the enemy only to see sothing really large throwing hellhounds all around them. I zoom in and there I see sothing in the mixture of a wolf and a bear. The creature has the tail of a wolf, but his body is larger and his paws resemble the bear more. His face is wide as the bear, but with the long snout as the wolf. Damn. What the hell is that?

As I’m fighting from my advantage point in the sky, and Ezra is eliminating enemies from the ground, an ear piercing rumbling sound surrounds us. Then a silver lightning pierces the clear blue sky and strikes five enemies at the sa ti.

More lightning strikes, but they do not co near or Ezra. What the fuck?!

As more and more hellhounds and rogues end up fried by lightning, drowned by , or ripped to pieces by Ezra, Darius retreats with his n. Promising they will be back, as he shifts only enough to yell out the ’promise’.

I land on the ground, shifting back with my clothes on. Then I look for Ezra in the blood pooled ground, and the wolf/bear mix walks to with a satisfied growl. As I am about to say sothing, a silver light erges and a woman walks out.

"Since you two are finally on the sa page, I will take you to Amber. She needs you!" She says, and before any of us can say or do anything to protest the ground disappears under our feet. She has to be a fucking goddess. Other than the promise to take to my mate, I want to rip her throat out for ddling.
