Mother said that the castle was visited by a representative of King Theodore earlier. The king who always made my father feel restless and miserable. I was supposed to stay with Mirai, but Mirai couldn’t take care of . That was the reason father was very mad at her.
I had learned from that mistake, but I still couldn’t accept my father committing violence against my friend. Even though my mother asked to forgive him, my heart always hurt when I rembered about it. I could only smile faintly though.
After being left alone, I could breathe a little easier. I was wondering why at that ti, I was crying when none of my friends t the war or were killed by the war. I wiped my tears because crying would never solve the problem. Then, I looked out the window because I felt soone watching from afar.
"Sir?"
At that ti, I couldn’t see anything and walked closer to the window. It was like the past month. When I closed the window, I heard the sound of a wolf howling in the distance.
I tried to look around and learned to see the shape of things. Tables, candles, and all the objects in the room, and one thing that I was interested in was the moving thing I often called flas. I stared at it much longer than I should have.
And so the day passed so quickly. I was left at Mirai’s house several tis when King Theodore’s representative visited the castle, and it always ended with my father getting angry. My mother always said the sa things that it started to sound absurd to my ears. I also asked Mirai why she was crying that night, but Mirai didn’t answer honestly. I just took her lies for granted because I didn’t want to make Mirai uncomfortable by forcing her to answer my questions.
On those several occasions, I could no longer et the mysterious man. Even though I sat alone in the middle of the forest until evening, that man didn’t appear. There was a feeling of emptiness in my chest.
Ever since I could see, father and mother had always treated excessively. I couldn’t really be alone. There were many guards who were guarding . My ti alone in the forest wasn’t really alone either. The guard assigned by my father would stand from a certain distance. Maybe if I were still blind, I would really believe that I was alone.
Tonight was the sa as before. I was preparing to go to Mirai’s house because King Theodore’s representative returned again. I didn’t know what they discussed because their conversation seed to have never ended. Father’s search for the Guardian of Birwick Mountain had also yielded no results, and they hadn’t even found a single clue.
However, this ti there was sothing strange. Even though I was going to stay in Mirai’s house, Mirai didn’t co with . The woman looked much prettier than usual. She also wore my white dress. Even though she was wearing nice clothes today, Mirai wasn’t smiling like she usually did.
We passed each other, and she didn’t say a word. I didn’t have ti to ask either because Mirai was called by my father. I tried to rember what I did wrong in the last month, and I didn’t think I did sothing wrong, so there was no reason for my father to beat Mirai.
I sat alone in Mirai’s house with ten guards surrounding the house. There was only emptiness because right now I didn’t feel that the man was watching .
I asked a maid who arrived to bring dinner for .
"Do you know why Mirai didn’t accompany tonight?"
The maid looked doubtful. She was very young, maybe younger than . She had just been working at the castle for two weeks to replace Mirai, who sohow beca frequently called by my father and mother.
"Doesn’t the Princess know?"
"What’s it?"
The young girl looked left, and right to make sure no guards heard their conversation.
"Mirai will replace you to et King Theodore."
"Sorry? I do not really understand. Replacing for what?"
"Princess, it’s been a while since King Theodore’s representative visited the castle to make a peace deal by marrying you to King Theodore."
"? Why ? And why did father never tell ?"
"His-His Majesty... never told you?"
The young girl covered her mouth as tightly as she could because she thought she had said sothing she shouldn’t have. I still continued to force the girl to tell the truth, but she shook her head while covering her mouth tightly.
"Tell the truth or I will report this to my father?"
For the first ti, I used threats when I was talking to soone. The girl knelt down and cried hysterically for rcy until a guard entered the house to check on the condition.
The girl then told everything she knew.
So, King Theodore’s representative gave father ti to voluntarily surrender to join Northendell or they would take the kingdom by force with Northendell’s military power. With those various threats, my father stuck to his beliefs to defend his small kingdom.
Even though his fleet and troops were defeated, father still negotiated with King Theodore’s representative not to touch Birwick. Until one day, King Theodore’s representative received information that Birwick had a daughter. I flinched because the girl suddenly said that the representative would let Birwick being an independent kingdom by marrying to their king.
Mother and father didn’t want that to happen, so father sent Mirai, who was pretending to be , to Northendell. I turned to a guard who I knew was Mirai’s lover.
The man was deathly pale.
"Mirai... My Mirai is being sacrificed!?" he asked in disbelief.
I didn’t like this. This was really reckless because if King Theodore found out that Mirai wasn’t , then sothing bad might happen to her.
I held the guard’s hand.
"We have to save Mirai."
"Your Highness..."
"Now."
