"I've been really conflicted about this whole thing..."

"Why did you break up?"

"Her daughter doesn't like ..." Kem Smith shrugged helplessly, "Obviously, her daughter is more important to her than ."

"Has Lydia Kuni been to work these past couple of days?"

"No, because the building caught fire, and work can't continue. Many employees are temporarily off work."

"You said you tried to contact Lydia Kuni. How did you try?"

"I called her, but I couldn't get through."

"Do you know where she lives?"

"Yes."

"Why didn't you go to her house to find her?"

"I... I didn't dare. I'm also worried she might really be involved in the arson and might do sothing irrational."

Luke said, "If Fred Krar heard this, he'd probably be very disappointed."

"Please, don't tell Professor Fred Krar and the company about this. I know it's problematic, but both Lydia Kuni and the company are important to .

I'm human, I have feelings... that's why I'm hesitant.

I'm sorry."

Luke didn't feel this guy owed him anything. He had just taken over the case. If Kem Smith had confessed earlier, the local police would definitely have intervened and maybe even caught Lydia Kuni.

Then Fred Krar wouldn't have specifically co to the detective bureau to have the Robbery and Murder Departnt take over the investigation, and the huge reward wouldn't be the First Squad's concern.

"Where does Lydia Kuni live?"

...

Moldin community.

This is a white community, only a twenty-minute drive from Kerman Pharmaceutical Company, with neat two-story villas along the road, well-maintained lawns, and a nice environnt.

Little Black looked out the window with so envy, "I quite like this community, too. I'm thinking about moving to a place with a nicer environnt."

Luke said, "Then work hard on the investigation. If we catch the arson suspect, each of us could get a nice share of the one million US dollar reward."

Little Black looked excited, "You're right. I've saved up so money recently. If we get the reward, I could consider moving."

Talking about the reward, Little Black seed more motivated. After the car parked by the roadside, he was the first to get out.

In the car, Luke had already assigned tasks. Raymond and Jenny were to guard the back door, while he and Little Black would knock on the front door.

Little Black walked to the door and pressed the doorbell, "Ding dong..."

No response.

Luke leaned in to listen, but heard nothing.

"Ding dong..." Little Black pressed the doorbell again.

Still no response.

Luke walked around the house. All the windows were shut and the curtains drawn, making it impossible to see inside.

The more this happened, the more Luke felt sothing was wrong with this house.

Luke spoke into the intercom, "Raymond, no one is responding inside. We're preparing to enter the house for a search."

"Got it, be careful."

Luke asked Little Black beside him, "Can you open the door lock?"

"I can try." Little Black pulled out a lock-picking tool from his pocket and tried to open the door.

Little Black fussed with it for two minutes.

"Click..."

The door lock opened.

Little Black grinned, showing off his big white teeth, looking like he was waiting for praise.

Luke gave a thumbs-up, gestured towards the house, opened the door, and entered the house front to back.

They worked together, searching the first-floor living room first, then opened the back door, allowing Raymond and Jenny to enter as well.

The four of them cooperated and sped up the search.

While searching, Luke kept an eye on the environnt in the house. It was very clean inside.

The entire villa had four rooms and two bathrooms. From the clothes and belongings, it was clear that the master bedroom was occupied by an adult female.

The side bedroom seed to belong to a young girl, with many stuffed toys and Barbie dolls on the bed and table.

Soon, the four of them finished searching the rooms.

Jenny holstered her gun, "Captain, we didn't find anyone in the house."

Little Black shrugged, "We didn't either. Maybe that person has already fled."

Luke didn't reply. Searching for suspicious individuals was just the first step. They still needed to thoroughly examine the scene.

There was a cup of coffee on the coffee table, and Luke touched the cup.

It was warm.
